FHS girls basketball edge Westford Academy 50-49

The FHS girls basketball team pulled out a close game against Westford Academy on Friday night. Josh Perry, Managing Editor, Hockomock Sports provides the complete summary of the game.

After allowing only 28 points through three quarters, the Franklin defense was opened up by Westford Academy in the fourth. The visiting Grey Ghosts, the defending Div. 1 Central champions, scored 21 points in the quarter and had the ball with 35.5 remaining on the clock, down by just one point, and with a chance to win a second straight game on their final possession.
During the timeout, Franklin coach John Leighton reminded his team to get back to the aggressive, switching defense that had made it successful.
He explained, “ We knew they were going to run a lot of on the ball screens and off ball screens -- just keep moving and try to shake someone free. We just kept switching and getting in the way as best we can.”
Jillian Spolidoro scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Panthers edged out a one-point win to reach the D1 Central semifinal. (Josh Perry/HockomockSports.com)
 .....
Franklin still had to inbound the ball and Martin (six points, nine rebounds, four assists) was fouled with 1.0 left. The Panthers got it in to Julianne Pisani (four points, five assists) and the clock ran out before the whistle to secure a 50-49 win for the hosts.

.....

Franklin will take on No. 3 seed Holy Name, which knocked the Panthers out last year, in the semifinal on Tuesday at WPI.

Franklin Liquors: Happy 237th Birthday Franklin MA! One Day Wine Sale 3/1/15

From Mark Lenzi at Franklin Liquors

Back in February 1978 after a “small” snow storm our dad purchased Jimmies Package store. For those of you not familiar with it or its location it was historic in town. One half was a liquor store the other a tobacco/penny candy/soda fountain AND both sides connected. Located in the center of town looking there now you would never know it existed. There is an empty lot before the railroad bridge left of HR Block and across from The Rome Restaurant.

When it came time to change the name there was none better than FRANKLIN Liquors. Our whole family has deep roots in Franklin, gradates of the schools and all still living in the town today. As a child I can remember walking from Davis Thayer School To CCD at St Mary’s BUT having to stop for candy first.

In 1986 we relocated the store, one of many changes in the town over the years due to growth. We are proud to be family owned and Franklin residents!

Winter Weather for People With Disabilities
With record-breaking snowfalls, nor'easters and blizzards, Winter 2015 has presented Massachusetts with many challenges - and winter isn't over yet.

If we find it hard to get around with 4 foot snow bankings and roads that have yet to see a good melting, imagine the difficulty for someone using a wheelchair.

It is important to keep sidewalks and ends of driveways clear if you have a person with a disability living in your community. Whether it's a traditional or motorized wheelchair, these transportation devices require sidewalks to be cleared wide enough to allow safe travel for wheelchair users.

Winter weather considerations go beyond sidewalk clearing and include important winter safety tips for people with disabilities.

Tell Me Something Good
Even though we still have twenty-two days until Spring technically begins (boo-hoo), daylight savings is right around the corner.

Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour on Sunday March 8th, 2015.

Even though we loose an hour, we gain longer evening daylight, especially in summer.
