Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, January 14, 2025

Boys Basketball = Franklin, 60 @ Stoughton, 38 – Final
 – Stoughton came out strong with an 18-point first quarter and a lead but Franklin’s defense ramped up its play and kept the Black Knights in check over the next three quarters. Junior Aiden Rideout had eight of his team-high 14 points in the first and Anthony Alessi drained a pair of threes as the Knights staked an 18-13 lead after one, but Franklin limited Stoughton to just 10 points in the second quarter and 10 total points in the second half. Both FHS girls & boys basketball teams top Attleboro on Friday (video)

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Friday, January 10, 2025

Boys Basketball = Attleboro, 37 @ Franklin, 52 – Final
– Game recap provided by Ryan Lanigan, HockomockSports.com Editor
"Franklin has always been one of the top defensive teams in the Hockomock League under head coach CJ Neely.

In one of the biggest games thus far this season, the Panthers found a way to take its defense to another level.

Buoyed by physical full-court pressure that started in the second quarter and a suffocating second half effort, Franklin stayed unbeaten on the season and handed Attleboro its first loss with a 52-37 win. "

Girls Basketball = Franklin, 57 @ Attleboro, 46 – Final
– Game recap provided by Josh Perry, HockomockSports.com Managing Editor.
"The last time that Franklin stepped on the court at Attleboro, in penultimate league game of the 2023-2024 season, the Panthers saw their chances for a piece of a sixth straight Kelley-Rex division title evaporate and the Bombardiers secure a first Hock championship.

On Friday night, Franklin returned to Attleboro with both teams part of a three-way tie for first. While the Hockomock campaign is only about a third of the way through, the Panthers saw a chance for revenge and to get an early leg up on a rival.

After Franklin got off to a strong start, Attleboro rallied and closed to within one early in the third quarter. The Panthers engineered a 24-7 run, opened up an 18-point edge, and then held off a late Attleboro charge to win 57-46."

In the fourth, North rallied behind nine points from Maryellen Charette and six points (4-for-4 from the line) from freshman Jordan Egan, making it a one-possession game by the end. FHS girls swim tops Milford, girls (video) & boys basketball teams top Taunton on Friday

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Friday, January 3, 2025

Boys Basketball – ‘Taylor Tough’ Night = Franklin, 73 @ Taunton, 49 – Final
– Franklin came out of the gates flying, exploding for 26 points in the first eight minutes and the Panthers never looked back from that point on. Even after the host Tigers limited the Panthers to eight points in the second quarter, Franklin started the second half in similar fashion as they did the beginning of the game, pouring in 25 points in the third. Joseph Conlan hit one of Franklin’s four threes in the opening quarter and scored all nine of his points in the frame, Seth O’Donnell added a three, and Wyatt Herndon hit two triples as the Panthers jumped ahead 26-8. Senior Jake Olmstead hit eight shots from the floor and finished with a career-high 18 points, senior Caden Sullivan finished with 14 points, and Herndon added two more triples to finish with a career-high 12 points. Junior Seun Olaniyan scored a career-high 16 points for the Tigers while sophomore Amari Campbell also notched a new career-best with 11 points.

Girls Basketball = Taunton, 38 @ Franklin, 56 – Final
Josh Perry, Managing Editor of HockomockSports.com, provides the game recap:
"Senior Lauryn DiGiorgio has suffered through a pair of frustrating seasons. The forward has battled injuries and hasn’t been able to contribute since her freshman year, but this winter she’s returned to the court and added a new dimension to the Franklin offense.

During Friday night’s visit from Taunton, DiGiorgio’s impact was on full display. She knocked down six threes (two each in the first and second quarters and one each in the third and fourth) and scored a game-high 18 points to power Franklin to a 56-38 victory over a fellow Kelley-Rex division title contender.

Franklin coach John Leighton said, “Just the ability to play, no matter how it goes, with all the work that she’s put in and all the fear and the doubt and all that, it’s just so rewarding. I knew Lauryn was due for a night like this because she’s just a pure shooter. It’s one of the purest shots we’ve had in the program but we’ve missed it for a couple years.”
Continue reading the game recap ->

Boys Swimming = Franklin, 80 @ Milford, 89 – Final

Foxboro’s Ryan Kelley drilled a three and Colin Trimble had a layup to put the Warriors up 24-21 with just under three minutes to play in the third quarter but from that point on, it was all Panthers. – Franklin jumped out to an early two-goal lead and tacked on a late empty net goal to start the season with a win, handing new head coach Brendan LaMarre his first victory. Julia Flynn opened the scoring with an unassisted tally and then Maddie O’Brien finished off a pass from Madison Reardon to double the Panthers’ advantage. Flynn and Kate Cataldo assisted on a goal from eighth grader Cade Taccini, and Flynn (from Hannah Auerr) scored a shorthanded empty net goal. Freshman Raegan Costello scored the Black Knights with an assist from junior Casey Groppi.

Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com, provides the game write up:
Franklin head coach CJ Neely always wants his offense to play with pace, but there has to be a purpose with it.

The Panthers came out flying to start the second half and flipped a five-point halftime deficit into a six-point advantage going into the fourth. From there, Franklin never trailed and secured a hard-fought win, 64-52, over Oliver Ames in the season opener for both teams.

It marked the 250th career win for Neely, who had a previous stop at Foxboro for seven seasons. The milestone victory also came against Neely’s alma mater; he played for OA and graduated in 1999.

Girls Basketball = Franklin, 53 @ Oliver Ames, 60 – Final
– Junior Avery Gamble opened the season in style, scoring 16 of her game-high 26 points in the second half to lead the Tigers past Franklin in the opener for both teams. Gamble had 10 points going into halftime but the Panthers had a 26-20 lead on the road. OA scored 20 points in the third to grab a two-point lead heading to the fourth. Gamble scored six in the frame and got help from classmate Maeve Horsman, who added eight of her 13 points in the third, and freshman Ellla O’Keefe added six of her eight points (including 4-of-4 at the line) to put the Tigers up 40-38. Gamble, who went 9-for-9 at the line in the game, finished strong, scoring 10 points in the fourth to help OA keep in front. Hannah Dupill went 4-of-6 at the line in the fourth and finished with eight points to hold Franklin at bay. The Panthers had a pair of players finish with 13 points. Chloe Fales scored eight of her 13 after halftime and Lena Malymina hit three shots from beyond the arc (two in the fourth). Ava Bonney chipped in with seven for the Panthers. Franklin made eight threes as a team in the loss.
