FHS softball win to advance, girls lacrosse end their playoff run on Tuesday

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, June 2, 2026

Softball = Division 1
#12 Franklin, 3 @ #5 Wachusett, 2 – Final
– Franklin orchestrated a two-out rally in the fourth inning and then held off a late charge to stun fifth-seeded Wachusett and earn a spot in the Division 1 Elite 8. Senior Ciara O’Brien kept the top of the fourth inning going with a two-out single and classmate Ava Florest followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Junior Amelia Rakitin plated the first run with an infield hit, senior Brooke Bonetti followed with a single to load the bases, and senior Ella Weston plated a pair with a base hit to left to put the Panthers up 3-0. Franklin was cruising until Wachusett jolted to life with two outs in the sixth, getting back-to-back home runs with two outs to pull within a run. Senior Sophia Sacramone (7IP, 4H, 2ER, 1BB, 8K) was able to get out of the inning and then retired the side in order in the seventh, putting an exclamation point on the win with her eighth strikeout of the game. Franklin awaits the winner of Wednesday’s game between #4 Shrewsbury and #13 Chelmsford.

FHS softball gets to Sweet 16 round with a walk off win on Monday (video)

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, June 1, 2026

Softball = Division 1
#21 Haverhill, 3 @ #12 Franklin, 4 – Final

Josh Perry || HockomockSports.com Managing Editor provides the game recap:

"When junior Amelia Rakitin hauled in a hard line drive to end the top of the seventh in Monday afternoon’s Div. 1 opener against No. 21 Haverhill, stranding two runners on base, it sent Franklin (which saw a three-run lead erased) to the plate needing a run to avoid extra innings.

The Panthers had the top of the order due up, which meant another opportunity for seniors Addi Weiss and Sophia Sacramone to deliver. Through six innings, the duo had combined for four hits, two runs, and three RBI. Haverhill had only managed to get them out once in six at-bats.

Weiss (2-for-2) got things started with her second walk of the game. She was on base for the fourth time and promptly stole second and third. Freshman Phoebe O’Connor bunted for a hit, as Haverhill ignored her to keep the winning run at third. Sacramone (2-for-4) came up next and put the ball in play to the right side.

The Hillies were deep in the infield and Weiss scampered home easily with the winning run, lifting Franklin to a 4-3 victory and a spot in the Sweet Sixteen. It was Sacramone’s third RBI of the day, each time driving in her classmate and fellow captain. She also picked up the win in the circle, scattering eight hits over 6-2/3 innings."

Clara Blongastainer, FHS Lacrosse, selected as "Player of the Week"

"Franklin sophomore Clara Blongastainer has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for May 24 through May 30. Blongastainer is the 26th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the ninth in the spring season.

One of the league’s leading scorers in the regular season, Blongastainer has continued her impressive performance into the playoffs, helping the Panthers make a run to the Div. 1 quarterfinal. The reigning HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year scored six times in the opening round and helped dominate the draw on Saturday to earn a road win over Bishop Feehan.

“Clara is only a sophomore, but she is playing like a veteran on our team,” said Franklin head coach Kristin Igoe Guarino. “Not only is she a scoring machine, but she also plays a huge role in helping us gain possession at the draw circle. I am so impressed with her confidence, teamwork and improvement this season.”

FHS girls tennis and baseball teams end playoff runs on Sunday

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Sunday, May 31, 2026

Baseball = Division 1
#19 Leominster, 6 @ #14 Franklin, 3 – Final
– Franklin orchestrated a seventh inning rally and brought the tying run to the plate but the Panthers’ comeback bid was cut short against Leominster. Held to three hits through six innings, the hosts collected four hits in the final frame, and had a chance to tie it with two outs. Joey Goguen, Ashton Levesque, and Ethan Herndon singled to load the bases, and Jack Sullivan came through with the Panthers’ fourth hit of the inning to bring in a run, and Levesque scored on a wild pitch in the next at-bat. Leominster was able to get a strikeout to end the game, stranding runners at second and third. Sean Kryzak hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning for Franklin, tying the game at 1-1. Leominster regained the lead with a sac fly in the third, and then used a bases loaded walk, sac fly, and errant pickoff attempt to plate three more in the fourth.

FHS girls lacrosse & boys tennis teams advance in playoffs on Tuesday

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, May 26, 2026

Girls Lacrosse = Division 1
#21 Andover, 5 @ #12 Franklin, 15 – Final

"Revenge was not something Franklin was trying to hide from.

The Panthers knew exactly what happened last season in the state tournament against Andover, and once the Warriors showed up in the bracket again, Franklin was not interested in pretending this was just another tournament game.

Click here for a photo gallery from this game.
One year after Andover ended Franklin’s season in an upset, the Panthers got their response Tuesday night, jumping out to a big lead and dominating after halftime to roll to a 15-5 win in the opening round of the Division 1 state tournament.

“We knew they knocked us out last year, so there was a little revenge,” Franklin coach Kristen Igoe Guarino said. “I think it’s a good mentality to have. We wanted to fight for everything — nothing’s given to us. I think that kind of happened to us a few weeks ago where we got complacent. It was important we came in with the mentality of you have to earn it, and playing a team who beat you last year is helpful.”

Mr. Brown brings nearly two decades of experience in athletic administration at both the high school and collegiate levels. For the last nine years, he has served as the Athletic Director at King Philip Regional High School and is widely respected throughout the Hockomock League for his leadership, collaborative approach, and commitment to student-athletes.

Before committing his time to high school athletics, Gary served as the Athletic Director at Harvard University for several years, where he was directly responsible for organizing and supporting their program, which earned multiple NCAA Division 1 national championships during his tenure. He has proven success in overseeing large athletic departments, policy development and adherence, organizing major sporting events, and developing comprehensive student leadership programs

Throughout the interview process, Mr. Brown distinguished himself through his clear vision for educational athletics, his emphasis on relationship-building, and his student-centered philosophy. His belief in “Education Through Athletics” reflects a strong commitment to using athletics as an extension of the educational experience, helping students develop teamwork, accountability, leadership, sportsmanship, and resilience

The selection process included four focus group sessions involving members of the Franklin High School administrative team, student-athletes, FHS coaches, and Franklin Public Schools District administrators and directors. Feedback from all groups consistently highlighted Mr. Brown’s strong communication skills, positive leadership style, and ability to connect with students, staff, and families

As a respected and experienced Athletic Director within the Hockomock League, Mr. Brown’s familiarity with the league, its schools, the Town of Franklin, and its traditions will help ensure a smooth transition into the role. His experience and commitment will further strengthen and elevate our highly successful athletic program. His experience overseeing comprehensive athletic programs, mentoring coaches, managing budgets and events, and fostering inclusive athletic communities makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead Franklin High School Athletics into the future.

We are excited to welcome Mr. Brown to Franklin High School and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes, coaches, and school community. He will assume this position after July 1, 2026. As part of his entry plan, Mr. Brown will be directly communicating with various groups within our athletic community.

Sincerely,

FHS softball and baseball teams posts wins on Friday

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Friday, May 22, 2026

Baseball = Franklin, 3 vs. Hopkinton, 0 – Final
– Sophomore Anthony Ficco delivered another stellar outing on the mound, tossing his second consecutive complete game shutout to lift Franklin to a win over Hopkinton in the opening round of the Pedroli tournament. Ficco gave up just two hits and two walks, striking out three while facing three over the minimum in the win. The Panthers scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. Drake McAlpine (HBP), Jack Sullivan (walk), and Sean Kryzak (walk) all reached to lead off the inning, and Ethan Edmunds brought in the first run with an RBI groundout. With two on and two outs, Joey Goguen came through with the key hit to bring in two more runs to make it 3-0. Kryzak, Goguen, and Henry George each had one hit apiece.

Softball = Franklin, 12 @ Walpole, 4 – Final
– The Panthers jumped all over the Timberwolves early and came away with one of their best wins of the season to end the regular season on a high note. Franklin’s first two batters were retired to start the game but the Panthers then went on a remarkable stretch with 10 batters in a row reaching base, including nine hits, and resulting in eight runs in the opening frame. The visitors continued to stay hot at the dish in the second as four straight Panthers had a hit, including a two-run double from Olivia Ross, as the lead jumped to 11-0 over Walpole (D2 #5). In total, Franklin belted out 17 hits in the win. Ava Florest had a team-high three hits and added an RBI and three runs scored while Addi Weiss (RBI, run), Amelia Rakitin (three RBI), Phoebe O’Connor (RBI, run, double), Brooke Bonetti (RBI, two runs), Ella Weston (two RBI, run), and Ross (RBI, two runs) each had two hits. Boston Globe girls lacrosse top teams references Franklin

Via the Boston Globe:

"For the first time this season, there is a new No. 1 in the Globe’s girls’ lacrosse Top 20 after previously-unbeaten Concord-Carlisle fell to both Hingham and Reading in the past week.

Walpole had a chance to assume the top spot, but a setback against Notre Dame (Hingham) means both the defending Division 1 and Division 2 champions descend slightly.

Cohasset and NDA have each only lost once, to each other, and the Skippers claim the top spot because their loss came when their four seniors were on a school trip.

NDA also doubled up Chelmsford, which means Sandwich and Duxbury leapfrog the Lions. Undefeated Franklin has only faced tests against Foxborough and Westwood so far, but upcoming games with Medfield and Bishop Feehan will offer a glimpse into the Panthers’ long-term potential."

FHS boys tennis and baseball (video) teams top King Philip on Friday

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Friday, May 8, 2026

Baseball = King Philip, 7 @ Franklin, 8 – Final (8 inn.)

Softball = Franklin, 0 @ King Philip, 2 – Final
– McCoy Walsh outdueled Ciara O’Brien to earn a narrow win for the Warriors, which keeps KP just one game back of league-leading Taunton in the Kelley-Rex standings and secures a sweep of the season series with the Panthers. Both pitchers struck out 11 batters, and the teams were held to just four hits combined (O’Brien pitching around six walks). The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. Emma Flaherty’s one-out grounder wasn’t fielded cleanly, and freshman courtesy runner Lexie Davis (who was running for Bailey Cederbaum after a walk) was able to come in with what turned out to be the game-winning run. Flaherty delivered again in the sixth, her two-out single bringing in Davis with a big insurance run. Walsh closed out the game with a strikeout and a pair of fly balls. Cheyenne Murray, Annabelle Curran, and Flaherty had hits for the Warriors. O’Brien had the lone hit of the game for Franklin.

Boys Tennis = Franklin, 3 @ King Philip, 2 – Final
– Franklin swept doubles and added a singles win to earn a big division win on the road at King Philip. Sophomore Anish Bokil picked up the singles point for the Panthers at second singles, while seniors Jackson Labella and Rick Yuan earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at first doubles. At second doubles, juniors Ronan Saidha and Rushil Partidar closed out a tight second-set tiebreak for a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory. King Philip got wins from senior Luke Bailer, 6-3, 6-2 at first singles, and freshman Zach Bailer, who battled to a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win at third singles.
