Franklin 4th of July Fireworks info - no rain date

Via the Franklin Police Dept:

***FRANKLIN FIREWORKS***
Tomorrow (Saturday, July 6) night the fireworks are set to return to the high school weather permitting. If you’re out exploring Franklin you’ll see no parking signs throughout town (Panther Way, Oak Street by the schools, Daniel McCahill Way, and Main Street by the old Charter School and up to Main Street). Just so we’re all on the same page, no parking means no parking. There will be plenty of parking at the schools, ice rinks, and elsewhere around the common. Don’t forget about the carnival up at the common.
Around 9 pm we’ll begin to close roads. Expect closures of Church Square, Beaver Street at 140, all of Oak Street, the Highland/Lexington/Concord neighborhoods, and Union Street at 140.
Once the fireworks conclude traffic all traffic leaving the High School, Horace Mann, Oak Street, and ECDC will be directed towards Oak Street and Pond Street. No traffic will be allowed towards the common. Traffic coming from the ice rink will be directed towards 140.
There will be cones and saw horses out blocking roads. Just so we’re all on the same page again, if the road looks blocked…it’s probably blocked. Don’t drive around it, don’t move the barriers, and don’t run over the cones.
Other than that you can expect a FPD and FFD presence at the event. If you need anything give us a call or flag us down. We’ll see you tomorrow!
Lastly…there is no rain date for the fireworks!

On Being: Ada Limón “To Be Made Whole” (audio)

"An electric conversation with Ada Limón’s wisdom and her poetry — a refreshing, full-body experience of how this way with words and sound and silence teaches us about being human at all times, but especially now. With an unexpected and exuberant mix of gravity and laughter — laughter of delight, and of blessed relief — this conversation holds not only what we have traversed these last years, but how we live forward.

It unfolded at the Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis, in collaboration with Northrop at the University of Minnesota and Ada Limón’s publisher, Milkweed Editions."

Present Moment, Wonderful Moment - July 7, 2024

Lay Leaders: Ann Willever & Ellen Adduci

FUSF Lay leaders Ann Willever and Ellen Adduci will explore the Unitarian Universalist value of Transformation through the teachings and practice of Zen Buddhist monk and peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh. Ann and Ellen are also members of the Path of Peace Sangha that meets at FUSF on Monday evenings. The service will include guided, silent and walking meditation, all of which are part of the Monday evening Sangha gatherings. Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings focus on mindfulness and, together, we will reflect on how this practice has helped us deal with the challenges of everyday life and transform suffering as we discover more joy and compassion. No previous meditation experience is needed.

The First Universalist Society in Franklin is a Unitarian Universalist Welcoming Congregation located at 262 Chestnut Street, Franklin MA. For further information about FUSF please explore our website at fusf.org or contact our Interim Minister, the Reverend Beverly Waring at 508- 528- 5348 or minister@fusf.org.

***From Friends of the Franklin Library***

The Friends held their 2024 Annual Meeting last month and elected several new Board Members. Congratulations to Dave Djerf who was elected as President, and to Alan Earls and Liz Pungitore who were elected as Directors. We welcome Dave, Alan, and Liz to the Friends' Board!

Thank you to Lisa Rein our outgoing President! Lisa has been on the Friends' Board since 2017, most recently serving as our President from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024. We are very appreciative of Lisa's many contributions through the years and of her excellent leadership as our President for the past several years. While we will miss seeing Lisa at our monthly board meetings, we look forward to having Lisa as a library Friend for many years to come.

Friends of the Franklin Library is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the Franklin Public Library. We meet monthly from September to May and are always looking for new Friends to join us. Save the Date: Our next meeting is scheduled for 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 4th. In the meantime, we wish everyone a wonderful summer filled with reading great books and attending fun library programs & activities!
