Franklin, 1 @ Canton, 3 – Final
– The battle between two of the top programs in the Hockomock League delivered as Canton rallied its way to a 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 26-24, 25-22) win over Franklin. The visiting Panthers had a 24-20 lead in the opening set before the Bulldogs rattled off six straight to take the early lead, and incredibly enough, Canton did the same thing in the third to take the crucial third set for a 2-1 lead. Sally Hoban had a great night at the net with 17 kills and seven digs for the Bulldogs while Charlotte Clyve (10 kills, six digs, two aces) and Ife Ajanaku (five kills, two blocks) provided some key offensive plays. Chloe Dubuisson was big at the net with six blocks and three kills, Caitlyn Reynolds gave the Dogs a boost off the bench at the service line, and Soley Rodriguez Martinez anchored the defense with 18 digs. Junior Erin Bigham ran the show once again, doing a little bit of everything with 38 assists, seven aces, six kills, five digs, and three blocks. Franklin senior Brooke Daniels dished out 31 assists with junior Makayla Kuykendall (15 kills, 13 digs), freshman Emerson Delleo (nine kills, 16 digs), and sophomore Gianna Laurello (eight kills) leading the charge offensively for the Panthers.

Field Hockey = Franklin, 4 @ Canton, 2 – Final
"Friday’s Hockomock crossover clash had the potential of an instant classic when unbeaten Canton hosted unbeaten Franklin.

The Bulldogs and the Panthers delivered.

While Canton became the first team to score against Franklin this season, it was the Panthers that used back-to-back goals in quick succession twice to secure a 4-2 win in what was one of the best field hockey games the league has seen in the last decade.

“I thought it was a great game, both sides,” said Canton head coach Chrissy O’Connor, who is in her ninth year of her second stint at the helm, and 17th season overall."
Continue reading the game recap ->

"I AM SO PROUD OF MY TEAM!! We played a complete game today vs Canton & won 4-2!  We remain undefeated on the season 10-0!  Shout Out to Ava Lucenta for her amazing defensive save!! TOTAL TEAM WIN!!  #WhateveritTakes"

Golf = Stoughton, 189 @ Franklin, 137 - Final
– Franklin had its best team score in at least a decade, potentially ever, in a win at home over Stoughton. Liam Lewandowski tied his career-best round with a three-under-par round of 32 to earn match medalist honors in the win. Jack Nelson finished one under par (34), Caden Sullivan came in with an even par round of 35, and Cam LaBrie was one over at 36.
"The Panthers have an unreal performance Record breaking performance beating Stoughton 137-189  #butter #pure #birdies #perlamn #roc

Liam Lewandowski: 32 (-3)
Jack Nelson: 34 (-1)
Caden Sullivan: 35 (E)
Cam Labrie: 36 (+1)"

FHS girls soccer team tops Stoughton on Thursday

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Thursday, September 26, 2024

Boys Soccer = Franklin, 1 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final
– Stoughton got off to a great start with a goal in the opening minutes but Franklin pulled back the equalizer in the second half to record a 1-1 draw on the road. Senior Anthony Damasio handed the Knights the early advantage, a lead that the hosts carried into halftime. Senior Garrett Scagliarini put the Panthers on the board with an unassisted second half strike.

Girls Soccer = Stoughton, 2 @ Franklin, 4 – Final
– After Stoughton evened the score, Franklin added two more goals before halftime and another in the second half to pull away, stay unbeaten this season, and keep a share of first place in the Kelley-Rex. The Panthers opened the scoring after seven minutes, but Stoughton equalized off a corner. Morgan Cook played the ball into the box but partially cleared. Laila Bernard sent the ball back in and Bianca Casna connected to make it 1-1. Franklin would score three straight goals to break the game open. Stoughton would get one back in the final five minutes, as Lauren Mitchell buried a 25-yard free kick and wrapped up the scoring. Mitchell and Maddie Burke played solid games defensively for the Black Knights under constant Franklin pressure.

MA Ballot QUESTION 5: Minimum Wage for Tipped Workers

SUMMARY
As required by law, summaries are written by the State Attorney General.
This proposed law would gradually increase the minimum hourly wage an employer must pay a tipped worker, over the course of five years, on the following schedule:
To 64% of the state minimum wage on January 1, 2025;
To 73% of the state minimum wage on January 1, 2026;
To 82% of the state minimum wage on January 1, 2027;
To 91% of the state minimum wage on January 1, 2028; and
To 100% of the state minimum wage on January 1, 2029.

The proposed law would require employers to continue to pay tipped workers the difference Under the proposed law, if an employer pays its workers an hourly wage that is at least the state minimum wage, the employer would be permitted to administer a “tip pool” that combines all the tips given by customers to tipped workers and distributes them among all the workers, including non-tipped workers.
STATEMENT OF FISCAL CONSEQUENCES
As required by law, statements of fiscal consequences are written by the Executive Office of Administration and Finance.
There are no direct fiscal consequences on the Commonwealth or municipalities because they generally do not employ tipped employees. Nevertheless, this measure will affect proposed state and municipal revenues and expenditures due to impacts on employee and business income and earnings. While those impacts are difficult to project due to the lack of reliable data, increasing the minimum hourly wage of tipped employees will likely increase state income tax collections because employees will earn more in hourly wages from which state income tax is withheld. The impacts on gratuity earnings and gratuity tax reporting are unknown
WHAT YOUR VOTE WILL DO
As required by law, the statements describing the effect of a “yes” or “no” vote are written jointly by the State Attorney General and the Secretary of the Commonwealth
A YES VOTE would increase the minimum hourly wage an employer must pay a tipped worker to the full state minimum wage implemented over five years, at which point employers could pool all tips and distribute them to all non- management workers.

A NO VOTE would make no change in the law governing tip pooling or the minimum wage for tipped workers
IN FAVOR:
Vote Yes for FAIRNESS -

It’s fair for Workers:
Instead of being paid the current tipped worker wage of just $6.75 an hour, Massachusetts tipped workers deserve the full minimum wage with tips on top. Workers in 7 other states earn a full wage plus tips, and they enjoy
robust tips and growing restaurants where menu prices are comparable to Massachusetts. This law would create greater financial stability and predictability, acknowledging workers’ skills and professionalism.

It’s fair for Employers:
Many Massachusetts small businesses are already paying the full minimum wage plus tips. Big restaurant corporations should do the
same. This would reduce employee turnover and improve service quality.

It’s fair for Consumers:
Big restaurant corporations are not paying their fair share and are forcing consumers to cover their employees’ wages through tips. Tips should be a reward for good service, not a subsidy for low wages paid by large corporations.

Estefania Galvis One Fair Wage

AGAINST:
This question is funded by a radical group from California.

Tipped employees have made it abundantly clear the way they earn money does not need to be changed. State and Federal law guarantee them the $15 hourly minimum wage with many earning over $40/hr and 90% reporting at least $20/hr. A recent survey also showed that 88% oppose ‘tip pools’ where tips are shared with non-service employees and 90% believe that if tipped wages are eliminated, they will earn less.

Other attempts to implement this have seen catastrophic results. In Washington, D.C., nearly 10% of tipped employees have lost or left their jobs. This follows increases in menu prices, the implementation of 20% ‘service fees’ and a wave of closures.

This would reduce overall wages for servers, increase costs for restaurants and skyrocket the cost of eating out. It will be disastrous with many neighborhood restaurants being forced to close.

Instagram rules changes not going far enough

"Sevey Morton first got an Instagram account when she was 10 years old. She used it to keep up with friends, but also to follow pop culture trends. Now 16, the San Diego high schooler says all the airbrushed perfection and slickly edited selfies from celebrities and influencers made her hyper-focused on her appearance, causing anxiety and body image issues.

“Being exposed to that at a very young age impacted the way I grew into myself,” Morton said. “There is a huge part of me that wishes social media did not exist.”

Morton’s struggles inspired her film-maker mother, Laura, to direct Anxious Nation, a documentary on America’s so-called anxiety epidemic among adolescents. When Morton heard last week that Meta set new rules for teen accounts, she thought it was a good start – but not a solution.

Meta, which owns Instagram, rolled out changes that give parents the ability to set daily time limits on the app and block teens from using Instagram at night. Parents can also see the accounts their children message, along with the content categories they view. Teen accounts are now private by default, and Meta said “sensitive content” – which could range from violence to influencers hawking plastic surgery – will be “limited”.
