All 6 FHS teams in action on Monday posted wins: baseball, softball, girls (video) & boys lacrosse, girls & boys tennis

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, April 28, 2025

Baseball = Franklin, 11 @ Stoughton, 1
– Final (5 inn.) – Franklin’s offense roared to life with a season-high 11 runs, turning a 4-0 lead into a commanding victory with seven runs between the fourth and fifth innings. The Panthers plated a pair in the first and two more in the third, including an RBI triple from Ryan Connelly, to stake a 4-0 lead. That lead doubled with a four spot in the fourth with both Jack Sullivan and Patrick Luizzi driving in a pair. Sullivan tacked on two more RBI in the fifth and Zach Winer had a sac fly to push the lead to double digits. Sullivan (four RBI, two runs) and Sean Kryzak (three runs) each had three hits, Luizzi (two RBI, run) had two), and Winer (two RBI, run), Connelly (RBI), DJ Silverstein (run), Cole Sidwell (two runs) and Joey Goguen each had one hit. Winer earned the win on the mound with one run charged on two hits and two walks, striking out five in four innings; senior Greg Bono struck out a pair in a scoreless inning in relief. Andrew Beder had a hit and an RBI for the Black Knights.

Softball = Stoughton, 0 @ Franklin, 12 – Final (6 inn.)
– Junior Sophia Sacramone dazzled in the circle and Franklin jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back in a big win over Stoughton. Sacramone tossed a one-hitter without issuing a walk, striking out eight in six shutout innings for the Panthers. Franklin provided plenty of offense for Sacramone, pushing across four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by an RBI double from Marley Allen, and then tacked on two more in the second when Allen hit a two-out, two-run double to right. Franklin added five more in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close out the win. Allen (three RBI, run) and Addi Weiss (two RBI, two runs) each had two hits for the Panthers, Ava Florest drove in a pair, and Josie Drucker chipped in with an RBI.

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 12 @ Sharon, 10 – Final
Josh Perry, HockomockSports.com Managing Editor, provides the game recap ->
"For the second year in a row, Sharon went into halftime against perennial league power Franklin holding onto a lead. Sharon has never beaten the Panthers but on Monday afternoon at Gary Hall Stadium the Eagles looked in complete control after jumping out to a 6-1 first half lead and going into the halftime break up by four.

All Sharon needed to do was keep playing its style, at its pace, and not allow the visitors to go on a run, but there is a reason that Franklin has been at the top of the league for so many years.

The 11-time defending Kelley-Rex division champions came storming back in the second half. Franklin went on a 10-1 run between the second, third, and fourth quarters and turned a five-goal deficit into a four-goal lead. Sharon added a couple late goals, but Franklin remained perfect in Hock play with a 12-10 win.

“We told the offense that if they’re not going to start shooting, then the defense will,” first-year Franklin coach Chris Baker said about his message to the offense at halftime. “They’re a great Hock team. Every team in the Hock, this is how it is this year. If you sleep on anybody, you’re in trouble.”

Girls Lacrosse = Sharon, 1 @ Franklin, 20 – Final
– Franklin won its seventh straight game and allowed three or fewer goals for the fifth time this season, staying perfect in league play. Fourteen different Panthers recorded a point on Monday, including Maeve Grasso with her first goal of the season and sophomore Tori Cahill scoring her first varsity goal.

Boys Tennis = Stoughton, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
– Franklin took care of business at home, taking all five matches in straight sets against visiting Stoughton. Seniors Danny Reis (first singles), Aaron Ramaswamy (second singles), and Gabe Terry won in singles action for the Panthers, freshmen Deklan Morin and Anish Bokil teamed up for a 6-0, 6-1 win at first doubles, and seniors Jack Sebell and Charlie Souza rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win at second doubles.

Girls Tennis = Franklin, 3 @ Stoughton, 2 – Final
– Franklin took two wins in singles action and added one more in doubles play to secure a 3-2 win on the road at Stoughton. Senior Izzy Trull dropped just one game in an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles while junior Isabelle Simino battled to a 6-3, 7-6 win at second singles. The senior tandem of Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen continued to roll with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at first doubles. Jacqueline Boutros took a win at first singles (4-6, walkover) for Stoughton while the Black Knights’ second doubles team of senior Jina Kim and freshman Tynami Tang prevailed with a hard-fought 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win.

FHS baseball tops Catholic Memorial 5-1 on Tuesday (video)

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, April 22, 2025

Baseball = Franklin, 5 @ Catholic Memorial, 1 – Final
– Franklin claimed the lead right off the bat and senior Zach Winer and junior DJ Silverstein combined to deliver a great pitching performance as the Panthers snapped Catholic Memorial’s three-game win streak with a 5-1 win on the road. Winer set the tone early, giving himself some help with a one-out home run in the top of the first, and senior Ryan Connelly came through with a two-out RBI single as the Panthers built an early 2-0 lead. CM cut the deficit in half with a run in the fourth inning, 2-1, where the game stayed until Franklin tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the final inning. Winer (3-for-3, two RBI, two runs, three stolen bases) came through with a one-out RBI single to make it 3-1, and both Winer and junior Sean Kryzak (walk) came home to score on an error. On the mound, Winer surrendered just one unearned run on one hit and five walks, striking out four in five innings. Silverstein came on in relief and tossed two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit — a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh, but induced a ground ball for a double play four pitches later.

Softball = Franklin, 0 vs. Walpole, 4 – Final
– Junior Sophia Sacramone had a strong pitching performance and accounted for the Panthers’ lone hit offensively but Franklin suffered a 4-0 setback to star pitcher Sharlotte Stazinski and reigning Division 2 state champions Walpole. The Timberwolves scored once in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to build their lead. Sacramone had a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth to break up Stazinski’s no-hitter. In the circle, Sacramone allowed just two hits on five hits and one walk, striking out seven in five innings.

FHS boys lacrosse tops Shrewsbury on Saturday (video)

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Saturday, April 19, 2025

Softball = Franklin, 2 vs. St. Paul Diocesan, 4 – Final (12 inn.)

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 7 vs. Shrewsbury, 5 – Final
– Holding a one-goal lead at halftime, Franklin equaled its first half offensive output in the third quarter alone and the Panthers’ defense pitched a shutout in the frame as the hosts were able to create enough separation to land a 7-5 win over Shrewsbury. Franklin led 3-2 at halftime in a big time defensive battle with the Colonials but senior Jack O’Connor scored twice and junior Thomas Quinn added a goal and an assist as the Panthers staked a 6-2 edge going into the fourth. Quinn finished with two goals while Charlie Ballarino, Quinn Kielty, and Nate Walsh each had one goal. Senior captains Drew McCarthy and Flynn Baker anchored Franklin’s defense, which totaled seven takeaways and nine ground balls, in front of Sam Freedman, who had a strong game with nine saves.

2025 HockomockSports Boys Basketball Awards: FHS' Sullivan, Olmstead, Samuels, & Coach CJ Neely recognized

HockomockSports.com Boys Basketball Player of the Year

Franklin senior Caden Sullivan has been named the HockomockSports.com Boys Basketball Player of the Year for the 2024-2025 season. Sullivan had a tremendous final season, leading the Panthers to 27 wins and their first-ever state championship. He was also named the Kelley-Rex division MVP.

“Caden was terrific from the tip in the season opener against OA all the way to his incredible performance in the Division 1 state championship game,” said HockomockSports.com Editor Ryan Lanigan. “He was the focus of opposing defenses and teams game planned for him every time but he was still able to dominate the competition. Caden had one of the best individual seasons I’ve covered across any sport.”

HockomockSports First Team

  • Caden Sullivan – Franklin
Franklin senior Caden Sullivan put an exclamation point on a strong career with one of the best seasons in recent memory, capped with the Panthers’ first Division 1 state championship. Sullivan poured in 640 points over 28 games (22.9 points per game) and scored his 1,000th career point in the process. He also added 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 steals, and 2.2 assists per game. When Franklin needed him most, he took his game to another level and averaged 27.1 points per game in the state tournament. In the state championship, he scored 11 of Franklin’s last 13 points to help close out the win and finished with 31 points in the win. He was selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Year (above) and the Kelley-Rex division MVP. “Caden Sullivan played the game as fearless as anyone I have ever seen,” said Franklin head coach CJ Neely. “His unmatched toughness, confidence, and a relentless drive powered the best offensive season in school history and made him in my opinion the most valuable player in the MIAA this season.”

HockomockSports Third Team

  • Jake Olmstead – Franklin – Guard
Franklin senior Jake Olmstead left a lasting mark on the program in his first year starting, helping the Panthers secure their first-ever state championship. Olmstead was one of many new faces in the lineup for Franklin and really delivered on both ends of the court, emerging as the team’s second-leading scorer (10.3 points per game) and was named the HockomockSports.com Defensive Player of the Year (below). He handled point guard duties and did a nice job running the offense but was also a major source of scoring for Franklin with seven games of 15 or more points, including a career-high 31 points twice this season. He also added 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game for the state champs. “Jake Olmstead was the heart of our defense and one of the toughest, most confident competitors I’ve ever coached,” said Franklin head coach CJ Neely. “He embraced every challenge, shut down the best scorers in the state, and made winning plays night after night. His leadership, grit, and unselfishness were a driving force behind our championship run.”

Defensive Player of the Year

Franklin senior Jake Olmstead has been named the HockomockSports.com Boys Basketball Defensive Player of the Year for the 2024-2025 season, the 13th year the award has been given out. Olmstead is the seventh Panther to win the award and the second consecutive following Andrew O’Neill last year.

The Panthers were by far the best defensive team in the Hockomock League this year and then proved to be the best defensive team in the state after claiming the program’s first-ever Division 1 state championship. During its playoff run, Franklin held all five opponents to 54 points or fewer: Shrewsbury (49), North Andover (54), Bridgewater-Raynham (50), Central Catholic (44), and Newton North (52). Olmstead played a crucial role in that as his size and athleticism allowed head coach CJ Neely to match up with a variety of players.

HockomockSports All-Defensive Team
  • Jake Olmstead, Franklin
Franklin senior Jake Olmstead got it done on both ends of the court for the Panthers, who won their first-ever state championship this winter. Olmstead stepped right into the starting point guard role and came through with some clutch performances, both offensively where he averaged 10.3 points per game, and defensively, where he was more often than not tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player. He was selected as the HockomockSports.com Defensive Player of the Year (above). The combination of size and quickness allowed him to match up against a variety of players. In the state championship, Olmstead had a huge game on the defensive end against Newton North star Teagan Swint.

  • Justice Samuels, Franklin
Franklin junior Justice Samuels played a pivotal role in helping the Panthers have an incredible season that culminated with the program’s first-ever state championship. Samuels’ presence around the rim was a game-changer. He was a reliable finisher on the offensive end (9.3 points per game) but really changed how opposing players had to play offensively with his defensive skills. His length helped him challenge shooters on the perimeter but his biggest strength was his ability to alter shots at the rim. He averaged 1.9 blocks per game altered so many more shots and forced opponents to second guess when they got near the rim. Samuels also averaged 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this winter. “Justice Samuels was one of the most impactful players on the court in many of our biggest games,” said Franklin head coach CJ Neely. “His highlight reel shot blocking at the rim allowed our perimeter guards to really get after opponents knowing we had Justice waiting on the back line to clean everything up at the rim.”

Coach of the Year – CJ Neely, Franklin
CJ Neely 2025 HockomockSports Boys Basketball AwardsFranklin head coach CJ Neely has been selected as the Hockomocksports.com Boys Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2024-2025 season; it’s the second straight year Neely has earned this award, and third total in the past four seasons.

Neely guided the Panthers to a 27-1 record, a second consecutive undefeated league season, a third straight Kelley-Rex division title, and the program’s first-ever Division 1 state championship. Franklin became the first team in 50 years to post back-to-back 16-0 league records and had one of the best defensive seasons, allowing under 48 points per game across 28 games.

“After graduating so many talented players from the 2024 team, I don’t think many people, if any, would have anticipated the season that Franklin had this year,” said HockomockSports.com Editor Ryan Lanigan. “Coach Neely still had high expectations for his team and this group bought in from the very start. They ended up becoming one of the best defensive teams we’ve seen in the Hock and played with a bit of a chip on their shoulder.”

Neely joins Mansfield’s Mike Vaughan (2018, 2015, 2013) as the only three-time winners of this award. Other preview winners include Sharon’s Andrew Ferguson (2023), Attleboro’s Mark Houle (2019), North Attleboro’s Sean Mulkerrins (2017), Oliver Ames’ Don Byron (2016), Taunton’s Charlie Dacey (2014, 2020), and Franklin’s Dean O’Connor (2012).

  • Chloe Fales – Franklin – Guard
Franklin senior guard Chloe Fales capped off her three varsity seasons by helping the Panthers regain the Kelley-Rex title and reach the Div. 1 Sweet Sixteen and was selected as the Kelley-Rex division MVP by the league’s coaches. Fales also grabbed 104 rebounds, had 46 steals, and took 17 charges, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. Franklin coach John Leighton said, “Chloe was the key to our offensive success. Not only was she an elite shooter, but she created for her teammates by driving and kicking. Her effort on both ends was remarkable as she led us in scoring, steals, and charges taken. When your best scorer leads you in charges taken, it sets an example for our younger players.”

HockomockSports All Defensive Team
  • Elle Bonacci – Franklin
Bonacci, a senior guard, was a steadying influence for Franklin this season, helping the Panthers regain the Kelley-Rex division title. Although one of the shortest players on the court each night, Bonacci grabbed 71 defensive rebounds and had 65 deflections and 45 steals. On the other end, she dished out 60 assists and shot 39% from three. Franklin coach John Leighton said, “Elle played every minute with passion and did all she could to help us be successful. She regularly covered the other team’s best player regardless of any height difference. Elle is one of the fiercest competitors I have coached.”

Franklin coach Jake Brightbill said, “OC gave us a chance to win every game this year, making big save after big save. He was a great leader on and off ice.”

HockomockSports Third Team

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, April 16, 2025

Baseball = Franklin, 4 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final
– Attleboro scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at third but Franklin held on for a 4-3 victory for their first league win of the season. Franklin sophomore Cal McKenna came on in relief with the tying run at second and one out and got a fly ball to center for the second out. After Attleboro pinch runner Austin Taliaferro stole third to get the tying runner a bag away from home, McKenna got a punch out to end the game. Franklin took the lead with two runs in the top of the second on an RBI ground out from Cole Sidwell and a two-out RBI double from Jack Sullivan (2-for-4, double, triple). The teams traded runs in the third with Matt Luccini bringing in a run with an RBI groundout in the top half for the Panthers while Attleboro tied it after Jeremy O’Hara reached on a dropped third strike and Aidan Landers (2-for-3, run) came home from third. Franklin tacked on what looked like an insurance run in the top of the seventh, but it proved to be the game-winner. Joey Goguen plated Drake McAlpine with a sac fly to make it 4-1. O’Hara had a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to pull the Bombardiers within a run. Michael Huntington added two hits, two stolen bases, and a run for the Bombardiers. DJ Silverstein pitched well in a no-decision, allowing just one unearned run on five hits and four walks, striking out eight in 5.1 innings for the Panthers. Nick Daley gave up just one unearned run on one hit and one walk in three innings of relief for Attleboro, striking out one.

Softball = Attleboro, 7 @ Franklin, 4 – Final
– Attleboro scored in six straight innings, building its lead over time to secure a win on the road at Franklin. The Bombardiers took the lead right off the bat in the top of the first on a two-run home run from Lola Ronayne but the Panthers responded right away, plating three in the bottom half to jump ahead: Sarah Boozang and Marley Allen each clubbed an RBI double and Addi Weiss came through with a two-out single to plate another run. From there, Attleboro scored once in five straight innings, tying the game in the top of the second when Emily Eby reached on a two-out error, and taking the lead back in the top of the third when Nina Sullivan had a two-out single to center. Eby added an RBI single in the fourth, Savannah Boedecker plated one with a sac fly in the fifth, and Jenna Callahan (ROE) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth. Ella Weston connected on an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh for the Panthers. Callahan earned the win in the circle for Attleboro, surrendering four runs on six hits and three walks, striking out a season-high 10 batters.

Boys Lacrosse = Canton, 4 @ Franklin, 10 – Final
– Canton scored three straight goals at the end of the third quarter to cut a six-goal deficit in half but Franklin and senior goalie Sam Freedman stood tall the rest of the way, winning the fourth quarter 3-0 to fend off a feisty Bulldog squad. Franklin staked a 6-1 lead at halftime and scored the first goal of the third as the lead peaked at six goals. Canton’s Cam Conley scored two of his goals in a two-minute span and Cullen O’Brien added one with 1:34 to go in the third to make it 7-4. The game stayed that way for nearly five minutes into the fourth until Quinn Kielty deposited a shot from just outside the crease. Franklin tacked on insurance goals with just under five minutes to go and another with just over a minute left into an empty net. Freedman was the main difference, turning aside 15 shots to keep Canton at bay for the majority of the game. Thomas Quinn scored a hat trick to lead Franklin while Kielty and Charlie Ballarino each had two tallies.

Baseball = North Attleboro, 5 @ Franklin, 2 – Final
- Senior Brady Paradis gave up just one run in five innings while sophomore Jake Ronci came in and closed the door with a two-inning save, escaping a major jam in the sixth inning as North Attleboro bounced back from a tough loss on Thursday with an impressive win at Franklin. Paradis allowed just one unearned run in the bottom of the third with just one hit against and three walks, striking out six. With North holding a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Franklin’s Zach Winer singled and Sean Kryzak walked and the Rocketeers turned to Ronci in relief. After an infield pop up, Franklin freshman Patrick Luizzi was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Ronci got a massive strikeout and then induced a fly ball to foul territory near first base as North escaped the jam. The Rocketeers cashed in for some insurance runs in the top of the seventh as Gio Martello (single) and Paradis (error) both came home to score when Lucas Crovo reached on an infield error, pushing the lead to 5-1. The Panthers pulled one back with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but left fielder Ethan Belanger gunned a runner down at second for the final out of the game. Franklin took the lead when Matt Luccini (walk) scored on a passed ball but North went ahead with a three-run fourth inning. Nick Torres drove in Paradis and Crovo, who had back-to-back singles to start the inning and then scored on a double steal, with Bryce Silva (single) drawing Franklin’s attention at second. Winer pitched well for Franklin, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, striking out six in 5.1 innings.

Softball = Franklin, 9 @ North Attleboro, 6 – Final
- A five-run fourth inning helped Franklin create enough separation as North Attleboro’s seventh-inning rally came up short at home. The Panthers had a 2-1 lead going into the fourth before Sophia Sacramone, Brooke Gatewood, and Ciara O’Brien all had doubles to help push the lead to 7-1. After North pulled one back in the bottom half, Sacramone (3-for-5, three doubles, three RBI, run) connected for another double, this time driving in a pair of runs. North rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-run double from Jill Lewicki (2-for-4, two doubles, three RBI) and a sac fly from Emily Tucker. A single from freshman Lindsey DeGirolamo (3-for-4, RBI) put runners on the corners and brought the tying run up to the plate but sophomore Abby Souza got her fourth strikeout in her three-inning relief appearance for the final out. Both O’Brien (3-for-4, two RBI, run) and Marley Allen (4-for-4, two doubles, RBI, run) hit solo home runs for Franklin in the top of the second to take the lead for the first time. Sarah Boozang also had two hits, including a double, for Franklin while Molly Willey had two doubles and an RBI for North Attleboro.

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 10 @ Foxboro, 8 – Final
– A deflected shot from Franklin junior Thomas Quinn skipped into the back of the net with just under two minutes left, helping the Panthers escape an upset bid from Foxboro. The host Warriors stayed with the visitors for the entire game, tied at 6-6 at halftime and trailing just 9-7 going into the fourth. Foxboro sophomore Jack Taft scored the first goal of the fourth quarter with just over three minutes left to pull the hosts within one, 9-8, but Franklin didn’t let the Warriors get another shot on goal and closed out the win. Quinn, Jack O’Connor, Quinn Kielty, and Nate Walsh each scored twice for the Panthers while Charlie Ballarino and Drew McCarthy each had one. Senior Sam Freedman played well in net for the Panthers with eight saves. Foxboro freshman Bobby Hickox scored a hat trick, junior Michael McCabe tallied twice, and senior Aidan Waller (two assists) and sophomore Brayden MacKay (15-for-20 on faceoffs) each scored once.

Josh Perry, HockomockSports.com Managing Editor, provides the game recap ->
"With 4:03 left in Monday afternoon’s showdown at Pisini Stadium, Foxboro senior Cate Noone leapt and buried a shot from the edge of the crease to bring the Warriors back within a single goal. Noone followed that by snagging the draw control (Foxboro won five of the six in the fourth quarter) to keep momentum with the visitors.

As Noone tried to bring the ball forward, Franklin senior Julia Flynn made the biggest defensive play of the night by knocking the ball loose to force a turnover. Flynn scooped the ground ball and fired a pass into the attacking half of the field.

Following a timeout, Franklin managed to hold possession for nearly 90 seconds, running the clock down to just 2:32 remaining when Izzy Cross drove towards the goal and scored her second goal of the night and sealed a 12-8 win and extended Franklin’s decade-long league win streak to 126 games."
