Town Council recap: Ag Commission, Fire Captain sworn in, robot enters the Chamber, Electric Youth perform

The Town Council meeting Wednesday was one of the most varied and entertaining meetings in a long time.

FSPA's Electric Youth sang a song as part of their annual visit before heading to their annual tour in Europe.

The Agriculture Commission presented an update on what they have done since they were formally approved last year.

The 4H Alarm Robotics Club presented an overview of their operation and educational mission. They will lease the Red Brick School as their base of operations in Franklin. They had been located in the old Thompson Printing building (until it was torn down) and recently in another location in Bellingham but wanting to return to Franklin.

After the Council approved of the lease arrangement, their robot entered the Chamber to deliver the pen for the signing ceremony. With some technical difficulty they did demonstrate the robots movements and capabilities along with how the team operated under pressure and recovered from problems.

NEW FORMAT and PRIZES!

We are looking forward to returning to Norton Country Club, on June 17, for our Annual Golf Tournament. Now's the time to register!

Have a Fun Day of Golf with Friends... And Win Great New Prizes

Come Play Our New Format on June 18th at Norton Country Club

We are also moving to a modified scramble or bramble as it is sometimes called. Each player will hit a tee shot and then the team will pick the best tee shot and everyone will hit from that spot. From that point, every player will play their own ball and then write down the best score.

Another change this year is that we are replacing our raffle at the end of the tournament with raffle baskets. Now you can buy tickets to win a great assortment of prizes in one basket. Tickets will be available right at registration so don't wait to buy those tickets. If you are interested in donating a basket or items to put in a basket please contact the chamber and let us know.

Schedule:

Post House wines are perhaps the darkest colored wine to be found anywhere. The objective is to interfere as little as possible in the creation of the wine making process. They use traditional wine making methods including natural yeast fermentation, basket pressing and no fining or filtering.

Come and explore South African wine and this great winery!

This is a sit down wine tasting/educational event held in the Franklin Liquors wine room

RSVP is required
cost is $5

FHS boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, and softball all post wins to advance in playoffs

Via HockomockSports, we share the results of the FHS sports action on Thursday, June 6, 2019.

Boys Lacrosse = D1 South =#7 Natick, 2 @ #2 Franklin, 10 – Final
– The Panthers put on a defensive clinic, limiting the visitors to just two goals on 10 total shots to advance to the D1 South Semifinals. Franklin’s defensive unit of Pat Morrison, Liam Arsenault, and Spencer Briggs, along with close D Will Harvey and Luc Sweeney limited Natick from getting many good looks throughout the night. Franklin led 5-1 at halftime and held the visitors to just one goal through three quarters. Nitin Chaudhury had three goals and an assist, Matt Lazzaro scored twice with two helpers, Jake Davis netted a pair of goals with one assist, and Ben Kolb and Harvey each scored once. Jacob Alexander won 13-of-16 faceoffs while Will Davis made seven saves in net. The Panthers await the winner of #3 Xaverian and #6 Duxbury, which will be played on Friday at 5:00. Franklin will play the winner on Monday.

Girls Lacrosse = D1 East = #7 Hopkinton, 11 @ #2 Franklin, 19 – Final

Boys Tennis = D1 South = #9 Franklin, 0 @ #1 Brookline, 5 – Final

Softball = D1 South = #22 Wellesley, 0 @ #11 Franklin, 11 – Final
Joe Clark, HockomockSports.com Contributor, provides the softball game recap:

"In a preliminary round matchup in MIAA Division One South tournament the 11th-seeded Franklin softball team played a near-flawless game, shutting out #22 Wellesley with a convincing 11-0 win.
After allowing a one-out single in the top of the first inning, Panther starter Jackie Cherry (4.1 IP, 1H, 5K) was lights out and didn’t allow another Raider hit while she was in the game.
Meanwhile, Franklin wasted little time to get its offense in gear. In the bottom of the first, Anna Balkus reached on a bunt single and came home two batters later on an RBI triple by Sarah Jackson."
