"Yarn bombing" project crochet class scheduled for Aug 16 at 1 PM

The Franklin Cultural Council is funding a grant for a “Yarn Bombing” project here in Franklin.

Want to help the project or learn more?  On Friday, August 16th at 1 PM in the Franklin Public Library, YOU CAN!

Best for Ages 14+
A granny square is like a plain sheet of paper. Sure, it comes in different colors, textures, sizes and weights however in and of itself, it’s not very exciting until you use it as an integral part of your creative process.
During our two hour crochet class we will explore the basic structure of a granny square as we make one traditional style square using a basic worsted weight wool. You will leave the class with a new respect for the humble Granny square and how to bring it to life in your crochet journey.
All class materials will be provided. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Bellingham and Franklin Cultural Councils, local agencies,  which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Pre-requisites: Ability to chain, single crochet, double crochet, knowledge of how to count stitches

Your input is crucial in helping us build a supportive infrastructure for all artists in Franklin

FRANKLIN CREATIVE DATABASE

The Town of Franklin's Department of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy has launched a creative networking survey for Franklin community members.

We are excited to build a comprehensive database of our creative community. The goals of this database is to help tailor future opportunities to meet the needs and interests of our local artists, writers, and creative community members; ensuring that Franklin remains a thriving hub for artistic expression and cultural engagement.

Your input is crucial in helping us build a supportive infrastructure for all artists in Franklin. Your participation will help us showcase the diverse talents in our community and connect artists with opportunities. Take a moment to enter your creative workflow in the link below.

Creatives have the option of being listed on the Franklin Culture website; By participating on the website, it offers another platform to showcase artists/creatives work and continue to build their diverse artistic network. Cory Shea, the Director of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy will be reviewing this information bi-weekly to add to website/database. If you have questions, please email her [cshea@franklinma.gov]

BT/ALC Big Band at Franklin High School - April 25 - free & open to the public

Thursday, April 25 @ 7:00 PM - Free and Open to the Public!

The BT ALC Big Band, led by trombonist Brian Thomas and trumpeter Alex Lee-Clark, has reshaped the depiction of the big band ensemble. By employing the traditional instrumentation reminiscent of Duke Ellington and Count Basie while infusing funk, soul and hip hop, afro-beat, reggae and jazz styles, the BT ALC Big Band has created an undeniably unique sound they dub Big Band Funk.  Original repertoire encompassing funk, soul, hip hop, afrobeat, reggae and jazz styles, combined with a rotating cast of Boston’s heaviest hitters make each show special.

Brian and Alex met at UMASS Amherst studying composition and arranging with Jeff Holmes.  Committed to education, they travel the state providing clinics and workshops for students focusing on confidence and creativity.

“Play the music you love, just in your own way.”

*Made possible by a grant from the Franklin Cultural Council, the Franklin Music Boosters, and the Franklin Public Schools*

Why have multiple calendars?
There is a Cultural events calendar upon which other community events are layered to create the Community calendar.

Respectfully, the Library and Senior Center calendars are too full of events to include all their events so we tend to focus on the major events. Town and School meetings are also kept separate. Links for all the calendars are shared here:
