Bummed already that the summer Farmers Market is no longer available. Yup, that happens this time of year. However, there is hope.
Don’t forget about our winter market happening again THIS Saturday 10-2!
Make sure to wear those rain boots, rain coats and bring those umbrellas as the forecast shows lots of rain. Never fear as we have some great vendors to help make your day great!

The weekend even schedule (aside from the weather forecast) provides a few more options this time around. FHS students perform "Clue" live from their blackbox theater. FPSA offers a virtual broadcast of "The Tappy Christmas Show Live!" which was recorded by Franklin TV when performed live last year.
Satay has the special election for the one open Town Council seat being sought by four candidates. The Winter Farmers Market is open. Sunday, stop by for a Franklin ornament or check out a new exhibit at the Historical Museum.

FM #404 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 404 in the series.
This session shares the Franklin, MA Board of Health meeting held on Wednesday, Dec 2, 2020.
The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format: some of the Health Dept were in the Municipal Building, the remainder, Committee, (and public) were remote via conference bridge, all to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period.
The show notes contain links to the meeting agenda and to my notes.
The recording runs about 38 minutes. Let’s listen to the Board of Health meeting held on Wednesday, Dec 2. Audio file = https://www.hipcast.com/podcast/HrszndkS

Winter Farmers Market - Mar 21 - Cancelled |
"AT A MONTHLY WINTER FARMERS market run by Roots Rising in Pittsfield, shoppers can buy apples, canned tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, onions, and winter squash. A shopper using SNAP benefits can spend $1 to buy $2 of produce under the state’s Healthy Incentives Program, or HIP.Continue reading the article online
But as of Feb. 24, shoppers on public benefits will no longer get that extra money. The state is suspending HIP for the winter, with plans to restore it May 15. State officials say the program – which doubles the impact of SNAP benefits when produce is bought from a participating farm – is a victim of its own success and has outgrown its budget.
Without a temporary suspension of the program, state officials say its $6.5 million state appropriation would run out quickly and no money would be left during the busier buying and growing season this summer.
Advocates for farmers and low-income individuals say the loss of HIP will hurt shoppers and sellers. Recently, 89 legislators wrote to Department of Transitional Assistance Commissioner Amy Kershaw protesting the suspension, and the lack of notice."

"The Franklin Agway is sponsoring the first market, so if food vendors sign up for the season by Nov 18th we will pay for the first market.
(We are willing to pay for all vendors first market fee, so if people vendors say they saw it in Franklin Matters then they can get the deal too.)"
