The Art and Commerce of Valentine's Cards

The Second Sunday Speaker Series at the museum continues on Feb. 12, 2024 with Postal Poetry: The Art and Commerce of Valentine's Cards. 

Historical Commission chair Alan Earls will explore the remarkably long story of Valentine's greetings and how entrepreneurs and new technologies turned sentiment into big business in the 19th century. 

The story includes key Massachusetts innovators like Louis Prang and pioneering woman business leader, Esther Howland – plus images of many beautiful old cards.  A limited number of free, vintage reprint sample cards will be available at the event. 

Doors open at 1 and the presentation begins at 1:15 at Franklin Historical Museum, 80 West Central Street, Franklin, MA. FREE

The Rotary Club of Franklin MA is proud to announce that their 5th Annual Valentine’s Brunch is slated for February 10, 2024, from 10-:30 AM to 12:00 PM, at the Franklin Housing Authority Hall, located at 1000 Central Park Terrace, Franklin, MA 02038.

All Franklin Senior’s and residents of Franklin Housing Authority are welcome to join the Rotary Club as their special guests, where all will be treated to a delicious, homemade Valentine’s brunch. Feel free to show your love and wear your red!

Seniors are urged to enter their names on a sign-up so that no one is left out. Sign-up sheets may found at the following locations: 

• Central Park Terrace, 1000 Central Park Terrace, Franklin, MA

• Franklin Senior Center, 10 Daniel McCahill Street, Franklin, MA

This shares my interview and discussion with Franklin Rotary Club President Diane Padula. Our discussion was conducted in the Franklin TV & Radio studio.

Diane calls herself a “Rotary kid” as she grew up with her father as a member for many years.

We talk about the Rotary Club as “service before self”, meeting twice a month at the Rome Restaurant in Franklin. The annual pasta dinner for seniors in June, the Valentine’s Brunch for seniors coming up in February, and other events they host in Franklin. This “small but mighty” group is always looking for new members.

THE BLACK BOX Comedy Series debuts with adam connie sr. on Thursday, February 13. adam connie sr. is a Franklin, MA bred comedian based in San Diego, CA . His career in entertainment began when he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the web series "Fully Staffed." His love for comedy then took him to the stage. Now in his ninth year performing, he's ready to kick off his first tour in his hometown.

THE BLACK BOX New England Artist Series presents The Love Dogs this Valentine's Day for a special night out. With barrelhouse boogie-woogie piano, stinging Fender guitar, and a red-hot horn section of trombone and alto, tenor and baritone saxes, The Love Dogs also showcases a swinging rhythm section that Blues Review magazine called “the best in the business,” and a charismatic front man with one of the biggest blues voices around. Based out of Boston, the septet recently celebrated its 20th year. 2nd Annual Valentine's Brunch - Feb 9

Valentine's Brunch

The Franklin Rotary Club is presenting its 2nd Annual Valentine's Brunch from 10:30 til 12 Noon on February 9 at the Franklin Housing Authority's Community Center at Central Park Terrace. 

The meal is free for all FHA residents and Franklin senior citizens. Several frittatas will be featured. 

Advance sign up is required at either the Community Center or at the Franklin Senior Center so that we can ensure enough food! 

This brunch was a big success last year.

Celebrate Valentine's Day with Let's Laugh Today - Feb 14

You can celebrate Valentine's Day with Let's Laugh Today on Wednesday, February 14th from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Meetinghouse of the First Universalist Society in Franklin, 262 Chestnut Street, Franklin! 

Everyone will receive a Valentine and a chocolate along with many belly laughs! (Bring more chocolate to share if you want.) 

Laughter Yoga is a body/mind practice for well-being that involves deep breathing and a few stretches, playful laughter exercises (no jokes or comedy), clapping and deep relaxation. It has many benefits besides the joy of laughter. It can strengthen the immune system, combat the negative effects of stress, and is a powerful antidote to depression and anxiety.

Any age and any level of physical ability can participate in this uplifting experience! There is a $5 donation to the church, $10 maximum per family.
