Charles River Meadowlands & #GivingTuesday

Season's Greetings to All,

We have some great news to report. I recently had a follow-up meeting with the Board of Metacomet Land Trust. They have been supportive of the Meadowlands initiative from the start, particularly Susan Speers and Larry Rettman, who have attended all of our meetings and provided much valuable advice. Since we are not a registered 501 (c) 3 it is not really appropriate for us to raise funds to help with the Charles River Meadowlands initiative.

However, Metacomet has indicated a willingness to continue to work with us. So, if anyone is willing or able to put a few dollars behind their commitment to the Charles River Meadowlands vision, the best way to support us is by either joining Metacomet or by sending along a donation and indicating that your gift should be applied to the Charles River Meadowlands project.

Today, "Giving Tuesday," is an especially appropriate day for taking action. Metacomet Land Trust joins with charities around the country to encourage giving through the #GivingTuesday campaign. Metacomet will be able to set up an earmarked account to support the endeavor. At the very least you will be helping the most active, independent voice for land protection in our area. Please go to metacometlandtrust.org for more information or simply donate here.

In other news, we had a very useful "workshop" in September at the First Universalist Society in Franklin. This meeting brought together town officials, planners, and others and generated useful input for a "vision" document. In early November I also met with the board of the Franklin Bellingham Rail Trail Committee to apprise them of our efforts and to open the door to coordinating our efforts in the future.

Last but not least, our legislators, Jeff Roy and Kevin Kuros are continuing to monitor the funds earmarked for this project in the state budget in an effort to get them moved toward the right people.

We will resume meeting monthly in the new year, at 6:30 PM, Dean Rm, First Universalist Soc. 262 Chestnut St, Franklin, MA.

The dates we have lined up are:
  • Tues. Jan 10
  • Tues. Feb 7
  • Tues Mar 7
  • Tues Apr 4
  • Tues May 2
In the event of inclement weather, feel free to call my cell phone – 508 560 3786.

Sincerely,

Alan Earls

You Saved the Best for Last

Dear Friends,
Our wish is that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones, and that you enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday in good cheer and with a festive spirit.

With all of the gifts checked off on your list, you saved the best for last. Today, Giving Tuesday, you can give a gift to help a neighbor you may never have met.
We ask that you consider making a donation for one of the 322 children right here in your community who wouldn't have enough to eat without the Franklin Food Pantry.

We ask that you share this email with your friends and family so that we can meet our goal of 322 gifts today.

For the donations already made and for those still to come,

THANK YOU!

Do you know what you did? HMEA thanks you for donating!

Because of you...

...60 people will enjoy the gift of expressive arts this winter season.

#artforhmea has raised quite the interest as our #GivingTuesday initiative this year. We are truly humbled by the number of donations that have come in over the past few days and by the response we have seen from our supporters via social media.

Art therapy is just one of many activities that HMEA offers the people we support. Just like you and me, people with disabilities have a variety of different interests, ranging from art, to gardening, to music, to yoga and so much more.

But, arts & crafts seem to be the most popular during the winter months; likely due to the numerous ideas for crafts brought out by the holiday season and the difficulty in getting outdoors.

Your combined donation of $1500 will give 60 people the gift of art.

With over 300 people in our art therapy program, we still have a ways go to give everyone gift of art this holiday season.

If you haven't given yet, there is still time. And, if you have already given, we thank you for your special gift.

*WMRC First Class Radio has partnered with HMEA as media sponsor for this initiative and has offered to match funds raised for #artforhmea with an in-kind advertising donation of up to $2,000 to be used for future events benefiting individuals supported by HMEA.

A gift that gives all winter long #GivingTuesday

There are a number of very worthy causes based in Franklin to contribute to for #GivingTuesday.

In addition to HMEA, the Santa Foundation, the Franklin Food Pantry, and the Neighbor Brigade are just a few of the non-profits that come to mind. If you can contribute on #GivingTuesday, please consider helping one or more of them!

Join the movement & give back
Give the gift of expressive arts this winter by supporting #artforhmea this #GivingTuesday ~ December 1st, 2015

HMEA has joined forces with #GivingTuesday to capture the generous giving spirit during the holiday season. #GivingTuesday, which takes place the first Tuesday of December, is an international movement that inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support. And, this year, HMEA is asking you to help raise money to fund its art therapy programs throughout the cold winter months ahead.

Arts and Crafts are a significant part of the activities we do in our Day Programs here at HMEA. Beyond the obvious enjoyment, art therapy helps facilitate personal expression, improves social skills (building "social confidence"), enhances self-esteem, and fosters cognitive development.

We are asking for your help to fund  #artforhmea  for people to enjoy the benefits of art therapy all winter long - donate $10, $25, $50, or more today  to support HMEA's art therapy program this holiday season.  Just $25 would give one person the enjoyment of doing arts and crafts until Spring.

This holiday season, whether you chose to Give Joy, Give Hope, Give Love, Give Time, Give Food, Give Thanks, or give to #artforhmea, we ask that you simply GIVE this holiday season.

Thanks,
Heather Cutler
