Franklin Food Pantry Invites Community Support on #GivingTuesday

Demand for Food Assistance and Programs Continues to Increase as Winter Months Approach

The Franklin Food Pantry, which provides supplemental food assistance and programs in Franklin, is encouraging the community to support The Pantry through acts of giving and service on #GivingTuesday. The annual event occurs the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and inspires people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

In recent months, The Pantry has experienced a sharp increase in demand for food and services including weekend backpack meals for school children, holiday meal kits, and health and wellness items. By supporting The Pantry on #GivingTuesday, Franklin residents can make a lasting, positive impact in their immediate community.

#GivingTuesday is an opportunity for everyone to reflect on their blessings, and pass that gratitude on to others in need,” said Tina Powderly, Executive Vice President, of Franklin Food Pantry. “The holiday season can be a time of tremendous stress for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. By coming together, we can provide hunger relief that lasts throughout the new year.”

How to support the Franklin Food Pantry on #GivingTuesday:
  • Donate—Make a monetary donation and help provide food and goods to the more than 1,300 individuals and families who rely on The Pantry each year. In Norfolk County, the average cost for a meal is about $5. A donation of $20 helps a family of four start their day with breakfast, eat lunch at work or school, or provide a nutritious dinner at night. Recurring monthly donations to help The Pantry budget for everyday expenses are also available. Click HERE to donate
  • Show Support—Share support for the Franklin Food Pantry on social media channels. Share The Pantry’s posts or create original content that links to The Pantry website or #GivingTuesday donation page. Be sure to use #GivingTuesday.
  • Volunteer—The Franklin Food Pantry has flexible volunteer options to meet almost everyone's desire to help. To volunteer, complete the online application and a volunteer coordinator will be in contact. Please note that availability for new Pantry volunteers will begin after the holiday season. For more information, click HERE.
  • Organize a Food or Fund Drive—Individuals, corporations, schools, churches, community groups, and other organizations can coordinate a food and fund drive using The Pantry’s online toolkit. Collected food and funds will help The Pantry provide assistance throughout the season and into the new year.
#GivingTuesday takes place on November 28, 2023. To add a #GivingTuesday reminder to an online calendar, please click HERE. For more information or to learn about the Franklin Food Pantry, visit www.franklinfoopantry.org.

Before you donate this Giving Tuesday ― and anytime you’re asked to give to charity:
  • Research the cause or the organization. Search online for the name of the organization or cause with words like “review,” “scam,” or “complaint.” See if others have had good or bad experiences with the charity. Check out what charity watchdog groups say about that organization.

Giving Tuesday - Franklin Food Pantry

Yes, #GivingTuesday was yesterday but the need still exists and the Food Pantry is accepting donations for the Franklin Food Elves 12 days of giving...

Join the movement & give back
Corresponding with #GivingTuesday this year, The Franklin Food Pantry has launched our largest fundraiser of the year - The Franklin Food Elves! The Franklin Food Elves are middle school, high school and college students who are committed to helping to end food insecurity in their own town by raising money for the Franklin Food Pantry.

The program runs from December 1 - December 12. Be on the look out for a purple envelope and flyer in your neighborhood from your local elf. If you do not receive a flyer or do not live in Franklin, you can make a direct donation to the Elves' campaign here  (https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E188424&id=37).

During the holiday season the Food Elves collect money to help provide food to our over 1400 neighbors throughout the year. During these hard times, we are seeing more people than ever who count on the Pantry for healthy food, proteins and shelf-stable items. Every dollar raised helps us buy what they need to help put meals on their table and have one less child go to bed hungry at night.

We appreciate your generous support throughout the year and hope you can find it in your hearts to support your Food Elf during this season of giving. Thank you for your commitment to helping to end food insecurity.

FTC Consumer Alert: Giving wisely in the time of COVID

Consumer Alerts from the Federal Trade Commission

by Rosario Méndez, Attorney, Division of Consumer and Business Education, FTC

Thanks to COVID-19, many charitable organizations are faced with greater demand for their services, but less in donations as people have less to give. Now, more than ever, it's important to make sure that your donation will be used wisely and well. Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, and as you consider new places to send your donations, now and throughout the holiday season, don't forget these four tips for giving wisely:

Best Buddies: Inclusion is everywhere.

Best Buddies: Inclusion is everywhere.

'Friendship is the Light of Life'

As Best Buddies has grown across the world over the last 30 years, so has our annual Leadership Conference. This year, international guests from 13 different countries made the trek to Indiana University in July. With attendees from Germany to Kenya to Haiti, we show that inclusion knows no bounds, and we hope you'll help us continue to prove this point in celebration of #GivingTuesday, the world's biggest day of giving.

Two first-time attendees were Chloe Wong and Sandy Chow, a Chapter President and Ambassador from Hong Kong. The pair endured 17-hour flights just to be in the company of others who believe in inclusion as much as they do. If you ask either of them, they won't hesitate to tell you it was all worth it. As Chloe put it:
"I was honored to be a part of the Leadership Conference with my Best Buddy, Sandy. It was a dream come true, and I was amazed to see Sandy's growth at the conference. She finished her very first speech in English and made friends from all over the world. The Leadership Conference gave us both the confidence to be ourselves. Best Buddies makes us better, and it's taught me that friendship is the light of life."
'Friendship is the Light of Life'

Each year, people like Sandy and Chloe are truly transformed by the Leadership Conference. It shines a light on people's abilities and empowers leaders to be themselves. But you don't have to look halfway around the world to find people who need these opportunities. You probably don't even have to leave your neighborhood.
In every country, every state, and every single city across the world, there are Chloes and Sandys who are just waiting to be given a chance. For #GivingTuesday, we're asking you to be a spark in your community. More than $50,000 are now being matched across the country, so there's no better time to ignite inclusion with us.

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

In the blink of an eye

Franklin Food Pantry

   Holiday Edition 2018
In the blink of an eye

 Thankful for you.

Dear Friends,
In the blink of an eye, it will all be over. The harried pace of the next few weeks will roll into a post-holiday calm that will be welcomed by many of us. We, at the Pantry, will take pause and look back at all that we have accomplished, thankful to our generous community of supporters who made it all possible.

Many nonprofit organizations appeal to their donors for support during the holiday season and encourage end-of-year giving. We are no different. We offer a variety of ways to engage our supporters to capture the spirit of giving that abounds this time of year. The gifts that are made now will help us get through the leaner months ahead, when giving subsides and food drives are less frequent.

There are so many ways you can support the Pantry. However you choose, we are grateful.

When the season of giving ends, the need continues. Your gifts now will help us care for the 1,000 individuals who count on us long after the holidays are over.

Franklin Food Pantry
THANK YOU for your support, however you choose to help the Pantry. Wishing you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Warmly,

Erin
