Help with the Franklin St. Mary’s St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving food baskets

Each year, the St. Vincent de Paul headquarters in Stoughton offers the Franklin St. Mary’s St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving food baskets ($10 each) for distribution throughout the community. If you are in need of assistance for Thanksgiving, please call the St. Vincent de Paul office at (508) 918-2291.

The St. Mary’s St. Vincent de Paul Society will be conducting its 9th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive on the weekend of November 18 and 19, to enhance the baskets from HQ and to restock our food pantry shelves. 

Suggested items to donate include applesauce, cranberry juice, popcorn, peanut butter, jelly, jams, cookies, crackers, bread mix, pudding, candy corn, cranberry sauce, stuffing, cereal, fruit cocktail, coffee/tea/cocoa, boxes of chocolate, canned yams and vegetables, rice, chowder, and a Thanksgiving tablecloth or decoration.

Donations may also be dropped off any time between now and November 19 and may be placed in the boxes at the doors of the church. 

Please know that these donations will give many families in the community a memorable Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you for all your help and support!

St. Mary's St. Vincent de Paul - "Rise and Shine" Food Drive

The St. Mary's St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to help our Franklin children to have a great start as they begin the new school year! It is so important for all students to have a nutritious breakfast before they head off to school each day! 

We are focusing on breakfast foods for our St. Vincent de Paul "Rise and Shine" food drive next weekend, September 2/3. We would appreciate donations of all kinds of breakfast foods, especially Pop-Tarts, protein bars, granola bars, pancake mix, maple syrup, jelly, juice boxes, crackers, graham crackers, school snacks and paper products. (Let's include coffee and tea for the adults too.)

Thank you all for your generosity and thank you also to our parents and teachers!

Donations may be dropped off at the doors of the church anytime.

St. Mary's St. Vincent de Paul August Food Drive

The St. Mary's St. Vincent de Paul Society will also be holding the August food drive during the weekend of August 5 and 6. We are so grateful for every item that is donated to our SVdP food pantry week after week. Because of these donations we are able to pack up many bags of food and offer them to our neighbors in need. 

For our August food drive, we are requesting peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, rice mixes, fruit juice and canned vegetables. Donations may be dropped off in the boxes at the doors of the church on the weekend of August 5/6.

All your food donations go right back into the community to help our neighbors who in their hour of need, turn to St. Mary's.

Franklin Elks Lodge: Touch - A - Truck - July 30

The Franklin Elks Lodge Touch - A - Truck Free Family Event is scheduled for July 30th from 9:00 AM - Noon. Touch - A - Truck will be held at the Elks Lodge at 1077 Pond St, Franklin MA 02038.

There will be lots of different vehicles for kids to explore as well as popcorn, hot dogs, and cold drinks. 

This is an event to benefit the Food Drive that the Elks conduct to benefit Christmas Food Baskets for Families in our Local Communities. The Elks will be accepting can goods and non-perishable food items.

Register O'Donnell Announces Annual Holiday Food Drive

	Register O'Donnell Announces Annual Holiday Food Drive Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O'Donnell announced today that the Registry of Deeds Annual Holiday Food Drive will take place from Monday, November 23, 2015 through Thursday, December 31, 2015. "Here in Norfolk County," noted Register O'Donnell, "some of our less fortunate neighbors continue to face economic hardship. We know this because we see each month the Notice to Foreclose Mortgage recordings that take place. Furthermore, at a statewide level, Project Bread noted that 1 out of every 10 households in Massachusetts is food insecure." Local pantry officials agree food donations, especially as we head into the winter and holiday months, are critical to their operations. "The holiday season is the busiest time of year. For the past 40 years, we have relied on the generosity of our local communities to donate food and help neighbors in need," noted Rick Doane, Executive Director of Interfaith Social Services of Quincy. Unfortunately, the issue of hunger does not stop at any border. Rene Feuerman, Director of the Brookline Food Pantry noted, "Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in the number of individuals and families needing assistance. Just this past summer, we added 100 families to our needs list. Currently, we are feeding 850 households in Brookline." Non-perishable food items can be brought directly to the Registry of Deeds, 649 High Street, Dedham from Monday, November 23, 2015 through Thursday, December 31, 2015. A donation bin will be set up in the Registry building lobby which is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Suggested donations include canned goods, breakfast cereals, pasta, sauces, toiletries and paper products. Those who wish to donate but are unable to travel to the Registry can do so by donating food supplies at their local pantries across Norfolk County. "Dropping off a food donation at the Registry or a local food pantry could make the difference in a family's holiday. Working together, we can make a huge difference this holiday season," concluded Register O'Donnell. 12 Days of Donating: Day 5

On Day 5 of the "12 Days of Donating", let's continue to look back through the events of the year and see how much we can be thankful for in Franklin.

In May, there was a whole lot going on. candidate campaigns for Rep Jim Vallee's seat started, the Master Plan Committee held its first public forum, and the annual Memorial Day activities took place among the many events for the month. 

The one event, i'd like to focus on here is the combined Library Book Sale and DPW "Touch a Truck". This is a good example of Franklin seamlessly providing a quality event and yet it is a combined Town and non-profit sponsored event. The DPW provides the facility and the vehicles are arranged for easy access around the garage and parking areas. The food is donated by local businesses. The Library Book Sale is coordinated by the Friends of Franklin Library and is an all volunteer non-profit effort. The turnout is great, the smiles and bags of books are plentiful. The Library (and hence the Franklin residents) benefit from the funds raised. There is also a separate collection for the Franklin Food Pantry (which we appreciate!).

One could walk away from the event and think this is a wonderful thing that the town does. And they would be right. It is a result of the wonderful collaboration that can be very effective among the various Franklin organizations.
