"when used in excess caffeine can be deadly"

The Washington Post has an interesting article on America's addiction to caffeine:

There was a time when getting your daily dose of caffeine meant a simple cup of coffee or tea.
Poured into a ceramic mug, the steaming liquid tended to be enough to give most people that extra burst of energy to get out the door. Back then, you'd have to drink a heck of a lot -- 81 cups of brewed coffee, or 317 cups of black tea, for the average 195-pound U.S. male -- to reach a lethal dose. So while you might still get the occasional shakiness, nausea and fast heartbeat associated with ingesting too much caffeine, you were highly unlikely to die from it.
But somewhere along the way, caffeine became an obsession, a need for many Americans; and an entire industry sprang up to try to make caffeine ingesting more efficient.

Rail Good Coffee - open from 5:00 to 11:00 AM Monday through Friday

An update to my post from June 26th, the hours that Rail Good Coffee operate were posted to the window when I went by on Monday morning.

Rail Good Coffee hours Mon - Fri
Rail Good Coffee hours Mon - Fri

When getting ready to catch the inbound train Thursday morning, I noticed that the doors to the building were open. This had been closed up for a bit after The Cake Bar and Cafe Dolce both gave it a good try.
They were indeed open. It had just opened earlier that morning. Newspapers had not yet started delivery but were scheduled. Train tickets can be purchased. The menu board had a listing of prices for coffee, etc.
Stop in to talk with Randy. Buy a coffee before your ride into Boston the next time you go.

Franklin Library: Coffee and Craft for Adults

Ladies and gentlemen, you get to have coffee and a craft in the afternoon today at the Franklin Library. The event starts at 1:30 PM. You'll create 'lovely table decor' using old screens.

Screens is not a term I am familiar with in this context. The dictionary did not help me either. Would this also be called a place mat?

Starbucks: Another chemical dumped (almost...)

Given the recent hype about the new Starbucks, this seems appropriate to share. Caveat emptor!

Hi from New York City!
I can't believe we did it again. We are bending policies of multi-billion dollar companies overnight. It really blows my mind!
In this latest post, I reveal the email exchanges I had with the Starbucks PR team leading up to last week, including what happened after they invited me to their headquarters in Seattle.
And…because of what you did last week, their stance completely changed.
Watch me talking about this issue on national TV this morning & read the latest news HERE.
At the end of this post, I have one little favor to ask. Even though Starbucks has agreed to some of our requests, they have a lot more work to do. Millions of people are still drinking these chemicals as I am typing!
None of these changes could become a reality without you and your unwavering determination to improve the quality and safety of our food.
I hope you are proud of yourself. I certainly am.
Thank you for standing with me and for your continued love and support.

Xo,
Vani

Franklin resident shows off classic car at Herb Chambers "Cars and Coffee" 6/15/13

On Saturday, June 15th, Franklin resident Mike Lucier attended Herb Chambers' "Cars & Coffee" at the Herb Chambers Lexus in Sharon, an early morning meet up of classic, vintage and specialty cars from all over New England. Car enthusiasts are invited to gather at the dealership, and showcase their pride and joys while admiring the prized hardware of other automotive fanatics.
Chambers has always looked to gather people who are passionate about cars in one location, grab a cup of coffee and exchange stories of what makes their unique car so special to them.

Franklin won't have to go as far

Bostonians who crave locally brewed Red Barn Coffee now have to look a bit harder or walk a bit farther to get a cup of their favorite java.

Fortunately, Franklinites don't have to go far to get Red Barn. This is the coffee served by Cafe Dolce!

New menu board - Cafe Dolce

I went running this morning and met up with Dolores at Cafe Dolce for coffee. There is a new menu board posted right at their door.

Cafe Dolce's coffee source spotlighted

The idea behind stimulating one small business is that the company will then buy more things wholesale and help other companies and their employees, said Ted Welte, president and chief executive officer of the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, based in Framingham.

“It’s all about the multiplier,’’ he said. “If people are spending money on a new roaster, say, that starts flowing through the economy of whoever produced that, and then more people can be serviced out of the coffee shop, and that means more money coming in.’’
The multiplier in this case is a federal stimulus loan recently provided to Red Barn Coffee Rosters of Upton. Red Barn is the coffee supplier for Cafe Dolce in Franklin.

I have tried several of the blends during my visits to Cafe Dolce and found them to be good and tasteful.

Have you visited Cafe Dolce recently? Try their Red Barn coffee and keep the multiplier effect going!

Cafe Dolce - BJ and Dave are all smiles!

I stopped by to talk with BJ Carlucci and David Purpura, the owners and operators of the soon to open Cafe Dolce.

The new sign is up and shining. The interior space is ready for the furniture delivery. The inspections are due soon. Once that occurs, then the food can start being delivered. The staff, already hired, can begin training in preparation for the ribbon cutting currently targeted for Monday April 6th about 9:00 AM.

Their normal hours will start at 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM. They want to catch the early train traffic. Given the recent parking fare increase (now $4.00/day), I have noticed more folks walking or being dropped off to take the train. That walking traffic will now have the option of stopping at Cafe Dolce for something to eat/drank on the ride into Boston.

There are plenty of electrical outlets along the walls. BJ and Dave confirmed that they wanted at least one at each table to allow someone with a laptop to come and plug in. As I would be one of those visitors, I noticed that feature and will be making use of it.

They are the first business to have installed some special energy saving 17W lights from D'Daddario. The lighting is good and can be adjusted. The background music is a jazzy-Frank Sinatra mix that should be conducive to good conversations.

I can hardly wait until they open. I think they will do well. Franklin needs a good coffeehouse downtown. BJ and Dave are doing a lot of smiling as the opening approaches. They have the desire to make this work.
