FHS "Keep Music Alive" - 4/16/20

Good Morning!

Please enjoy our 2nd release of "FHS Keep Music Alive", featuring:

1 - Emma Kucich, Flute (Emma will be attending UMASS Amhurst in the fall to study Music)
"Hi! My name is Emma Kucich, and I am a senior at Franklin High. This is a piece I've started working on called 'Elegie' by Donjon. Hope you enjoy, and are staying safe and healthy!"
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JcJ6j7c3jnH7Y_X0bNaIf_Cr8ZRtLOvo/view?usp=sharing

2 - Jamie Barrett, Elementary Music Teacher @ Jefferson and Davis Thayer. "All the Time in the World"

"If you know me, then you know that I'm pretty much music 24-7... sometimes to the dismay of those around... I just can't turn it off... whether I like it or not, I constantly have music swirling around in my head... don't know if that's a good or a bad thing... maybe just a thing... and lately I've really been needing to capture it in one form or another...
If you like what you hear, maybe 'subscribe' to my YouTube channel (I'm trying to reach 1000!), and/or maybe share it by forwarding it to as many folks as humanly possible..."

Enjoy and stay safe!

Jamie Barrett makes a slight revision to "Sisu Ubuntu"

Jamie Barrett writes:
"Haste makes waste! As many of you don’t know, I wrote and recorded this song very hastily. In that haste, I forgot 4 words submitted by folks!
I’ve added them, fixed a few flubs, and here it is... again!"
Franklin Action Needed: YouTube limits what Jamie can do as a performer until he has 1,000 subscribers to his YouTube Channel. He has 665 as we write today. Franklin can do this for Jamie! Let's get Jamie to 2,000.

Jamie Barrett: new song - Sisu Ubuntu (YouTube)

"Jamie Barrett asked folks to give him one word each and around 100 (+/-) participated to create this song. Jamie created the music to go with the words that were given to him. He also arranged the words. Hope you like...?"

In the News: Mr Barrett provides live music; Gov Baker extends schools closure until May 4

From the Milford Daily News, an article of interest for Franklin:

Mr Barrett provides live music
"When things seem bleak, there’s nothing like music to inject levity, lighten moods and make connections with others.

That’s just what Jefferson Elementary School music teacher and local musician Jamie Barrett aims to do with his newly introduced “Wake Up With Mr. Barrett” live YouTube concerts.

The concerts are his response to the reality of life in a time of social distancing resulting from the coronavirus.

“I was primarily thinking of ways to stay connected to my students during this time, but also to my family and friends, as well as to anyone else who might enjoy a live concert,” he said. “It’s all about connections.”

Gov Baker extends schools closure until May 4
"Schools and non-emergency child care centers in Massachusetts will now be closed until at least May 4 under a new order Gov. Charlie Baker signed Wednesday afternoon.

In the meantime, Baker said, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will work to produce in-home programming for students. Previously, schools had been ordered closed until at least April 6.

“This will allow school districts to provide the best possible opportunities for remote learning to all students,” Baker said. He added, “This is not an extended school vacation. During this long-term closure, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will work with school districts to further develop educational programming students can use at home. This way, schools can prepare for their students’ return in May.”

Happy birthday - Franklin!

On March 2, 1778 Franklin came into being. It was incorporated as a town and remained a small town for many, many years. Then in the 1980's and 1990's the population growth hit great numbers. Entire farms disappeared into residential developments and the population has now settled around 30,000. Franklin operates as a city form of government but we still call ourselves "The Town of Franklin."

Jamie Barrett recorded and posted to YouTube the song he composed for Franklin: "The City that calls itself the Town of Franklin".
