Rotary Youth Leadership recognition for high school sophomores

One of the greatest activities of Rotary District 7910 is Rotary Youth Leadership which is a weekend at a local college campus for High School sophomore students that have demonstrated leadership potential and wish specialized experiences in team building to achieve assigned functions (one of the perennial favorite projects is building a functional bridge out of nothing but newspaper pages) as a team of individuals who have never worked together--or even met before.

This year Franklin Rotary was proud of the six students (double our usual attendees). The students were then invited to a Rotary meeting on a Thursday evening at 6 o'clock at 3's Restaurant for dinner and to speak about their experiences. The optimism in their presentations confirmed that we had sent excellent candidates!

Shown in the photo are Jonathan Creonte, Alexa Katsaros, Laetitia Pierre-Louis, Rotarian president Ted Katsaros. Unable to be present in the photo were Meredith Gendreau, Nick Assad, and Brendan Ryan.

Rotary is an international service organization of over one million members, dedicated to building friendship and improving the lives of people locally and worldwide. One of Rotary's most noted programs is Polio Plus, which has virtually eliminated polio from the earth through a massive vaccination program that only an organization as big as Rotary International could undertake successfully.

Franklin Rotary membership is open to anyone who works or resides in the towns of Franklin, Wrentham, and Medway. The club meets Thursday nights at 6PM at 3's Restaurant in Franklin and guests or potential members are always welcome.

Rotarians honored with Paul Harris Awards

In addition to the many projects Rotarians do locally (scholarships, TVs and wheelchairs for the Senior Center, spaghetti supper for Franklin Seniors (sign up will be posted at the Senior Center in late May), town common benches and lights, Youth Leadership training), Rotary is the largest nonprofit service agency in the world, building water and sanitation services in the 3rd world, ambulances and medical supplies in disaster areas, crutches in disease ravaged countries, as well as running Polio Plus, which has recently been enhanced by matching contributions from the Bill Gates Foundation that has Rotary virtually eliminating polio from the face of the Earth.

The major way individual Rotarians support International activities is by becoming Paul Harris Fellows (meaning they contributed $1000 increments to Rotary Foundation (which monitors and supports the projects).

Several local Rotarians were honored by District Governor Jim Fusco recently Pictured receiving their Paul Harris Awards are Bruce Healey (Dean Bank), Frank Cusanno (Bristol Co. Savings Bank) and Joe Paolino (Honeydew Donuts). Presenting the awards were Dr Jeff Morrill and DG Fusco, both Fellows themselves.
