I missed out on the Strawberry Stroll but you can view these photos and write up from the Franklin Downtown Partnership website:

Our Strawberry Stroll brought hundreds to Downtown Franklin on Thursday for an afternoon of fun, friends, entertainment, shopping, and, of course, those delicious Strawberry Shortcakes.

Thanks to our event organizers, co-chairs Jane Curran of Jane's Frames and Nicole Fortier of Dean Bank for a fun, safe and entertaining afternoon!
Thanks go to our wonderful and generous sponsors too!
  • Platinum Sponsors Dean Bank and Big Y World Class Market
  • Gold Sponsor Dean College for the mouthwatering strawberries and shortcakes
  • Silver Sponsor DCU
  • Bronze Sponsors Chestnut Dental, Franklin Ford and Middlesex Savings Bank
  • Friends of the Festival Sponsors Keefe Insurance and Leaf Filter
  • Local dairy company Garelick Farms provided the whipped topping on the shortcakes

Finally, thanks to the Franklin DPW and the Franklin Police Department for keeping the public safe while strolling through town.

A few photos from the Stroll are below. For more shots from the afternoon be sure to watch the slideshow in the upper right-hand side of the Downtown Partnership webpage.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Franklin Liquors and Franklin Wine Club Deliver Immersive Wine Education Experience with Quini

Group first in Massachusetts to adopt the Quini wine tasting standard and application in education

Vancouver, Canada - June 11, 2014 - Quini, an interactive wine tasting, rating and recommendations application and data solutions provider (www.quiniwine.com) today announced an agreement with Franklin Liquors and Franklin Wine Club (www.franklinliquors.com) to integrate Quini into the group's wine education courses to enhance student engagement and learning with Quini's unique, interactive five step tasting structure and standard.

Franklin Liquors and Wine Club becomes the first organization in the state of Massachusetts and the United States to incorporate Quini in wine education, with new courses featuring live use of Quini on iPhone, iPad, wireless computers and tablets set to begin later this month. The company offers a comprehensive wine course series at its retail premises in Franklin and will apply Quini across a number of adult wine education programs in the region.

"We're excited to partner with progressive thinkers such as Franklin Liquors and Franklin Wine Club to introduce meaningful change to wine education in Massachusetts," said Roger Noujeim, CEO, Quini. "Mark Lenzi's experience and visionary approach to the wine business are reflected in his company's early recognition of the Quini wine tasting standard and the importance of interactive technology in wine education."

"Quini has instantly positioned us for success with today's increasingly digital consumer," said Mark Lenzi, CSW, CSS, CWAS and proprietor, Franklin Liquors and Wine Club. "We are proud to be first in Massachusetts to offer interactive wine courses around the Quini application and standard."

Said Dr. Clinton Lee, DWS, AIWS, FWS, CSW, CSS, Vinoscenti Global CEO and wine program instructor at Simon Fraser University: "Quini introduces an innovative, world class wine tasting system and standard that deepens the learning experience and ensures consistent course delivery and learning. With consumers spending more and more time on their mobile devices and computers, Quini is a natural fit and sets the wine education segment on a new course."

Quini announced its school program in May. The program incorporates a comprehensive school partner support package that includes educator training, course materials and certification, technical support and school-branded student study materials and certification. The program is designed to augment and support - rather than replace - existing wine school curriculums.

MassBudget: Comparison of the FY 2015 House and Senate Budget Proposals for MassHealth and Health Reform Programs

MassBudget   Information.

Comparison of the FY 2015 House and Senate Budget Proposals for MassHealth and Health Reform Programs
On May 22, the Massachusetts Senate completed its version of the budget after two days of debate; the House of Representatives completed debate on its budget three weeks earlier. This budget brief, Comparison of the FY 2015 House and Senate Budget Proposals for MassHealth and Health Reform Programs, describes the major differences.

Both proposals include more than $14.6 billion in funding for the state's Medicaid program (MassHealth) and other publicly subsidized and related health care programs, which is more than was recommended by the Governor in January. A legislative conference committee is meeting to reconcile differences between the two proposals and send a consensus budget to the Governor, who then has ten days to review and sign the budget.

This brief is the third in a series of budget briefs focused on MassHealth and Health Reform Programs produced by the Massachusetts Medicaid Policy Institute in partnership with the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center and the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute.

Click HERE to read the brief.
The Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center (MassBudget) produces policy research, analysis, and data-driven recommendations focused on improving the lives of low- and middle-income children and adults, strengthening our state's economy, and enhancing the quality of life in Massachusetts.

Whether you are new to running or are interested in taking it to the next level, NASM-Certified Personal Trainer and running enthusiast Jenn Champion Goebel will help improve your endurance, speed, strength and overall fitness.
Look what participants are saying about “Ready to Run”
“This experience was AWESOME and I am so happy that I decided to try as I had never ran before. I loved that Jenn gave me different challenges every week and I realized that I was stronger than I thought I was!!” - Laura M.
“In 8 weeks I increased my pace by more than 1:00/mile and I increased my endurance enough to run 3 miles without stopping. Best of all, I’m really enjoying running and am already thinking about my next race!!” - Michelle D.
“For the past few years, I had struggled to get back into running. When trying to complete a three mile loop near my home, I always became too winded on the hills, and had to walk. I decided to get serious, and started training with Jenn. In just a few months, I more than doubled my distance, and I now sail up those hills that once knocked me down. I even completed my first half-marathon in November. With Jenn's help, I know I can do anything!” - Leigh B.
COST: $80 (only $10/session) you will receive:
  • An 8-week progressive program that will include both indoor and outdoor workouts
  • Customized training and feedback to help you achieve your specific goals
  • Advice on everything from diet and hydration to race day strategy and recovery tactics
The group is limited to 7-15 participants and is open to both members and non-members of any age and fitness level. No previous running experience required. Questions, requests for different days/times, and registration inquiries can be sent to jenn@teamfitnessfranklin.com.

Give us a crack seal, we'll make a mosaic

I loved the mosaic made when the crack seal was done on Blueberry Lane last week. I had to go out to take some of my own photos to share here. You have heard the expression "when given lemons, you make lemonade". Franklin has now come up with its own version "give us a crack seal, we'll make a mosaic."

Thanks for the creativity!

The crack seal is one step on the road maintenance process that Franklin uses. More information on the process and total cost of maintaining our 200 miles of roads can be found here
http://town.franklin.ma.us/Pages/FranklinMA_DPW/Town_Council_Presentations/June_4_TownCouncilmeeting.pdf

Crack seal would still be needed even if the dedicated override is passed to fund our needed road repairs with additional money. The ballot question will appear in the November election.
