FSPA Offers Annual Broadway Boot Camp - July 22-24

The Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) will offer its annual Broadway Boot Camp this July for students Grades 8-12 with an additional option for Grades 1-7. This year’s special guest instructors will be Ben Bryant and Lonnie E. Davis Jr. The three-day Broadway Boot Camp (Grades 8-12) brings Broadway headliners to FSPA for song and dance master classes and coaching on individual performance skills. 

Broadway Boot Camp will run July 22-24. Classes will be socially distanced and will follow the FSPA Reopening Control Plan guidelines. There is a virtual option if students prefer to take the classes from home.

Ben Bryant currently serves as the Vocal Director for Royal Caribbean Cruises and appeared on Broadway in The King and I. Lonnie E. Davis Jr. has taught and choreographed for institutions and companies all over the country. Some include Master Teacher for PROJECT DANCE NYC/ATL; Ruth Mitchell Dance Theatre; Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education; Georgia Dance Conservatory; Full Circle Dance Co., Ballet Dalton, Gainesville Ballet, Cobb County Center For Excellence in the Performing Arts; resident choreographer/company instructor for REFUGE Dance Co.; and the Georgia Governor Honors Program.

For students Grades 1-7, Broadway Boot Camp for Children will be offered July 17-22. The program will include two private coachings with Ali Funkhouser and Master Classes with the Broadway Boot Camp guests.

Winter/Spring Kids' Corner Classes Start Next Week

What a great way to spend an afternoon and have some creative fun! Students will paint and take home their own piece of art.

Cut, chop, stir, and mix your way to a delicious dish. Students develop their skills: cutting, chopping, stirring, mixing, and teamwork! Each child works in partnership with another student to create a delicious dish. 
6 Wednesdays, starting January 15
Times vary by grade (Grades 4-5 Full) 

Students will explore drawing from observation, from memory, and from imagination in order to create unique artwork each week with a variety of drawing materials. 
6 Thursdays, starting January 16

Lively songs and playful games in these one-hour classes will be used to teach useful everyday phrases. 6 weeks starting:

Kids' February Vacation Cooking Camp



For Students Grades in 4-7

DATES:
February 19-22, 2019

TIME:
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

During camp, students will:

  • Enhance their kitchen skills
  • Learn complex techniques like: searing, sauteing, folding & more!

A sample of what students will be cooking:

  • Breakfast for dinner: carrot cake pancakes and quiche
  • Comfort food: butter dinner rolls, Parmesan crusted chicken nuggets, apple pie cups
  • Cookies: healthy oatmeal fruit cookies, stain glass cookies, coconut macaroons
  • Snack attack: fresh pretzels, cheese-flavored crackers, granola parfaits

Spring Registration Opens for Lifelong Community Learning Classes

Registration opens for spring classes at Lifelong Community Learning on January 11. Classes begin in February and continue through the spring months.

Participation is open to individuals, organizations and businesses alike in Franklin and the surrounding region towns. Classes include everything from child care education and intermediate digital photography to various food and wine offerings. 

For children, the Kids’ Corner program includes cooking, language, robotics, family paint night, and so much more!

New this spring are a daylong babysitting certification class with the American Red Cross and a lifeguard certification class conducted in partnership with the Hockomock Area YMCA in Franklin.

This spring, participants will also find as many exercise and sports programs as ever, including yoga, Zumba, and community walking. Badminton is back along with men’s basketball, intermediate and advanced volleyball classes rounding out the field.

Lifelong Community Learning: Winter Registration Opens December 1

Registration opens on December 1st for the 2019 winter session at Lifelong Community Learning. Beginning in January and February, winter courses will provide opportunities to exercise, dance, and paint. 

Sports offerings will include – badminton, basketball, and volleyball; or join our Football and Coffee class, just in time for the playoffs. You can also enjoy food demonstrations and tastings or explore the Italian language. 

We even have a class in digital photography as well as financial planning. It’s all here…so many opportunities and all reasonably priced.

And once again this winter we are pleased to announce new opportunities in our Kids’ Corner program … a place where fun and learning meet. This program is a unique collection of after-school activities for children with the goal of making learning fun. Classes are small, relaxed and designed to encourage children’s creativity. Children can explore art, cooking, science, yoga, and even knitting.

Summer Workshops at Developing Artists in Franklin

Session 5 - August 14th - 23rd 2018

A 2 Hr. Art Class (8 max) with individualized instruction, to help improve the artistic ability of anyone 8 yrs - adult. All art levels are welcome and encouraged. Free consult is available for all new students. The student can select the media: watercolor, acrylic, oil, colored pencil, pen or markers as well as the subject matter. I have photos for students to choose the one best suited to their personality. Classes are held in a home environment with air conditioning to keep everyone comfortable on those hot days.

Classes meet weekly thru the school year in a home setting. Students select from several mediums: colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic, oil and pen. Lifelong Community Learning Announces Fall Registration Open

Registration is now open for the fall semester at Lifelong Community Learning. Classes begin in early September. Participation is open to individuals, organizations and businesses alike in Franklin and the surrounding region towns.

This fall, participants can choose from a very interesting variety of options. Class categories include Art, Food and Wine, and Astronomy and Photography. 

Or join us for “Football We Hardly Know You”- a two-night interactive workshop where registrants can learn basic football terminology, rules, and penalties, just in time for the start of football season.

Our Kids’ Corner program, a place where fun and learning meet, has been expanded again and will include another Parent and Child Painting Night in mid-September.

Looking for a day-trip adventure? Lifelong Community Learning has it! There will be a Fall Foliage Day Trip to New Hampshire where you will have lunch at the lovely Woodbound Inn. 

If skiing is your adventure, you will have two opportunities for day trips – Okemo Mountain in Vermont or Bretton Woods in New Hampshire. All motor coach trips will begin and end at Franklin High School.

You won't want to miss our Public Safety / Personal Awareness classes offered in partnership with the Franklin Police and Fire Departments.

This fall you will also find more exercise and sports programs than ever including Yoga and Yoga For Anyone, Zumba, a Fitness Class for Active Agers, Country Line Dancing, and Community Walking. Badminton is back this fall along with two nights of Men’s Basketball. Intermediate and Advanced Volleyball classes round out the field.

Music for Young Children offers 2 New Sessions

Encore's program Music for Young Children is offering two new sessions - Sunbeams (ages 5 and 6) and a Sunshine (ages 3 and 4) session. Sunshine will be offered on Thursdays from 4 - 5, and Sunbeams on Thursdays from 5 - 6.

Music for Young Children is a classroom-based program for young students and their parents. Our classes will not only teach piano skills and how to read music, but also other very important elements such as sight-reading, composition and ensemble playing. The classes are one-hour long weekly classes, divided into three 12-week sessions per level.

Franklin School for the Performing Arts Slates Summer Programs for Children and Teens

Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) announces a summer session of theater programs, ballet intensives, one-week camps, voice and instrumental lessons, and dance classes in ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary. The summer session runs from July 2 to August 24, with registration beginning March 5.

FSPA Summer Theater provides the opportunity for hands-on immersion in a Broadway Boot Camp, cabaret show, play or musical theater production, with enrollment for one to five weeks. The Cabaret week (July 23-27) focuses on repertoire choices, song interpretation and presentation, and concludes with a cabaret style revue at THE BLACK BOX theater in downtown Franklin. 

The three-day Broadway Boot Camp (July 30-August 1) brings Broadway headliners to FSPA for song and dance master classes and coaching on individual performance skills. A weeklong drama program (August 20-24) presents a straight play, while a two-week musical theater program (August 6-17) stages a major book musical at THE BLACK BOX.

Summer Ballet Intensives feature a final showing at THE BLACK BOX, along with extracurricular classes in Alexander Technique, nutrition and injury prevention. The four-week Intermediate/Advanced Intensive (July 2-26) and three-week Young Intensive (July 9-26) provide training in classical ballet technique, pre-pointe/pointe, modern, dance history, character dance and choreography.

Among FSPA weeklong performing arts camps: 

  • Broadway Camp (grades K-5, July 23-27 or August 20-24) teaches vocals, choreography and scene work, with a chance to showcase skills in a final ensemble performance. 
  • Acting Camp (grades K-4, July 9-13 and grades 5-7, July 30-August 3) explores character development and improvisation. 
  • Camp ProVoice (ages 7-9 and 10-13, July 9-13) focuses on individual performance skills with music from Broadway, movies and TV musicals, as well as pop and rock hits, culminating in a performance of solos, duets and small ensembles. 
  • Jazz and Tap Camp (grades 4-7, August 20-24) combines age- and level-appropriate dance with a creative summer experience. 
  • For young beginner dancers, Dance Discovery (ages 5-9, July 9-13) teaches basic dance vocabulary and positions, floor exercises and simple steps, with a focus on musicality and rhythm. 
  • Creative Kids Camp (ages 5-8, July 23-27 or August 20-24) engages campers with drama games, theater activities, singing, dancing and crafts. 
  • The youngest campers, ages 3-5, are invited to the summer Little Music School Experience (July 23-27) with FSPA’s Little Music School Director, Kim Rezendes.

The Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office will be at the Franklin Elk’s Lodge, 1077 Pond St., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 20 to assist veterans who have questions regarding their benefits and/or need help with claims.
