FHS to hold Color Run for Mr K's Scholarship Fund - May 13

"Student Government has been working hard to plan a town wide event held for a great cause. 

On May 13th, 2017 community members of all ages will gather to participate in a Color Run right here at FHS! Register here! 

Registration will begin at 9 am and the actual run will begin at 10. There will be a gathering with a DJ after the race, just like an actual Color Run! 

All proceeds will be going directly to Mr. K’s Scholarship Fund. Gift cards to Elizabeth’s Bagels will be given out to every 50th high school student to register. Even better, FHS students could win a FREE COOKIE COUPON. To win, simply gather your sports team or club members. Then, go head to head with the girls vs the boys group of your sport/club! (For example, girls lacrosse vs boys lacrosse; softball vs baseball) 

How do I register my student group? (Read this) 

On the day of the event there will be a check in for sports teams/club members, and the group with the highest participation will win the Free Cookie Coupon. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this! Join us for memory making fun while raising funds for a great cause."

60 Tri-County Adams Scholars Recognized

Sixty seniors at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School qualified to receive the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for their performance on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System test.

The students were recognized on Tuesday, December 13, during a celebratory luncheon in the school’s cafeteria.

The scholarship provides up to eight semesters of free tuition to full-time undergraduate students who attend a Massachusetts state college or university. To be eligible, students in the Class of 2017 had to achieve an Advanced score on one of the three high school state assessment tests in ELA, Mathematics or STE, and score at the Proficient level or higher on the two remaining tests. Their combined scores must also place them among the top 25-percent of students in the graduating class in their district.

"Helen Huang, of Franklin, was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Massachusetts"

"Helen Huang, of Franklin, was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Massachusetts and awarded $2,300 in cash scholarships, and multiple full- and partial-tuition scholarships during a statewide scholarship program for high school girls held Aug. 13 at Holyoke Community College. 

Huang is the daughter of Howard Huang and Shuang Chen, and is a senior at Franklin High School. She was one of six high school senior girls from Massachusetts who earned the chance to participate at the state level after winning their local programs earlier this year. 

Participants spent one week staying with local families while participating in life skills workshops in interview, public speaking and college admissions; performing community service and working with young kids, attending receptions in their honor and rehearsing for the showcase at the end of the week."

"The town holds an event for small-business owners and aspiring owners next week with the hopes of linking them with development resources. 

The event - scheduled for March 24 at 10 a.m. at the Franklin Municipal Building - will feature a presentation by the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA), among others. It is slated to end around noon. 

John Allen, of the town's Department of Planning and Community Development, said it is important for the town to assist its smaller businesses.

Emily Waite, FHS senior wins Samsung Mobile App Scholarship

Emily Waite, a senior at FHS has received the Samsung Mobile App Scholarship for $20,000. Emily finished on the top in the 2015 contest. She will be receiving her award at a press conference at the end of April.

"A 12th grader at Franklin High School in Franklin, MA. Emily's idea, Med Kid, aims to make frequent medicine-taking fun for children with serious illnesses; Med Kid gives in-app rewards each time a medicine is taken."

"Six Samsung Mobile App Academies were held during the summer of 2015 in Miami; Houston; Boston; San Francisco; New Brunswick, NJ; and Washington, DC/ Baltimore, MD, with the goal of igniting top-performing 11th and 12th graders' interest in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and the related careers. Students learned about mobile app concept development and coding basics, plus the research, logic, design, and marketing that developers use when conceptualizing and creating mobile apps. Afterward, students had the opportunity to submit their own app concepts for a chance to win scholarships!"

"Students from Jefferson Elementary School were recognized by local legislators for their work in organizing and conducting a pajama and sock clothing drive for foster children. 

State Rep. Jeffrey Roy, D-Franklin, and state Sen. Richard Ross, R-Wrentham, were at the school Friday to present the children - members of the student council - with citations honoring their work.

"Franklin Public Schools will offer four one-week summer sessions of Ready Set Kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary School, 628 Washington St. 

Ready Set Kindergarten is a course for incoming Franklin Public Schools kindergarten students that enables children to become familiar with a kindergarten classroom setting and daily routines. All activities will be theme-based using books, dramatic play, music, manipulatives, outside games and arts and crafts. This course is taught by a staff of certified teachers and educational assistants. 

There are four one-week sessions, from July 11 to Aug. 4, with different themes each week."

Tri-County Reg Voc Technical High Sschool Valedictorian Receives $80,000 Scholarship To WPI

Tri-County RVTHS senior Laura Auerbach, of Franklin, has been awarded the $80,000 Worcester Polytechnic Institute FRC New England District Championship Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded annually to one high school senior who is an active participant on a First Robotics team competing in one of the New England District Tournaments. An adult leader on each team can nominate one student for the scholarship. Auerbach will receive $20,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Laura, a student in Tri-County’s Engineering Technology Program, achieved a weighted GPA of 4.54 and is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2015. With an academic schedule that included Advanced Placement Calculus, Language and Composition, and Physics, Auerbach still found the time to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. During her four years at Tri-County, Laura participated in Junior Varsity Basketball, Varsity Track, Math Team, First Robotics, NASA’s HUNCH Program, SkillsUSA and National Honor Society.

In addition to an already lengthy roster of extracurricular activities, Laura took on a number of leadership roles. She was captain of the Varsity Soccer team for two years and was one of two students selected to represent Tri-County as part of the Congressional Youth Cabinet for the 4th Congressional District formed by U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III in 2013.

In December, Laura was selected as the 2015 recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS) Certificate of Academic Excellence. The certificate is awarded each year to a student of excellent academic standing who has made significant contributions to the Tri-County community.

Laura plans to major in Mechanical Engineering in college and later pursue a Master’s Degree in Biochemical Engineering.

Tri-County RVTHS, located at 147 Pond Street in Franklin, is a recipient of the High Schools That Work Gold Achievement Award and serves the communities of Franklin, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleborough, Plainville, Seekonk, Sherborn, Walpole, and Wrentham.

FRTC - Scholarship Award

Once again the Franklin Republican Town Committee has taken the lead in providing opportunity for Franklin students. The FRTC is pleased to announce that they have offered a $500 scholarship for their annual Scholarship contest. The winner of the scholarship will be announced at the FHS Awards Night. The applicants submitted 500 word essays specific to the following quote:

“The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.” Patrick Henry

The quote is attributed to Patrick Henry, one of the most respected patriots in United States history. Mr. Henry is not only one of our most admired founding fathers but was also an influential champion of Republicanism.

The Annual Franklin Post 75 and Medway Post 367 Scholarship Run will be held at Medway High School on Saturday, June 20, 2015.
