In the News: hotel proposal looking for exception; Turkey Trot moved to Saturday

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"Representatives from Foursquare Development LLC came to a public hearing on Monday to hear input about their newest project, the Home2 Suites Hilton Hotel on 725 Union St.
The 92,000-square-foot undeveloped property is located directly behind Joe’s American Bar & Grill. This would be the third Hilton Hotel in Franklin. The idea for the hotel is to accommodate extended-stay hotel visits.
Developers are seeking two special permits from the town. One is seeking to change the lot’s usage to accommodate hotels, and the other is to make sure that the hotel can be built up to 50 feet. The building is designed to have four stories and 100 rooms available.
There will be no restaurant or bar in the proposed hotel."

In the blink of an eye

Franklin Food Pantry

   Holiday Edition 2018
In the blink of an eye

 Thankful for you.

Dear Friends,
In the blink of an eye, it will all be over. The harried pace of the next few weeks will roll into a post-holiday calm that will be welcomed by many of us. We, at the Pantry, will take pause and look back at all that we have accomplished, thankful to our generous community of supporters who made it all possible.

Many nonprofit organizations appeal to their donors for support during the holiday season and encourage end-of-year giving. We are no different. We offer a variety of ways to engage our supporters to capture the spirit of giving that abounds this time of year. The gifts that are made now will help us get through the leaner months ahead, when giving subsides and food drives are less frequent.

There are so many ways you can support the Pantry. However you choose, we are grateful.

When the season of giving ends, the need continues. Your gifts now will help us care for the 1,000 individuals who count on us long after the holidays are over.

Franklin Food Pantry
THANK YOU for your support, however you choose to help the Pantry. Wishing you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Warmly,

Erin

Franklin Turkey Trot Helps Feed Local Families in Need - Nov 22

For the hundreds who will come out on Thanksgiving morning for the Franklin Turkey Trot 5K Family Fun Run, the motto is “Run now, gobble later!” When families gather together for their traditional feast after the event, there will be many more grateful for the bounty that results from the race. The registration fee of $20, or 20 nonperishable goods, goes directly to the Franklin Food Pantry, keeping donations local to help feed those in need.

The event begins and ends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) at 91 Jordan Road in Franklin. The race, open to runners and walkers of all ages, attracts experienced runners as well as families who want to get out and exercise together before their traditional holiday get-together. A professional race organizer officially records timing, pace and rankings for each runner.

“Thanksgiving is truly a time to be grateful for the many blessings we have,” said Erin Lynch, executive director for the Franklin Food Pantry. “But it is also an occasion to think of others who are struggling to put food on their tables. The Franklin Turkey Trot rallies our community to give back and help protect others from the threat of hunger. The nearly 1,000 individuals we serve are grateful to our community for coming out to support us.”

The November 22 race will begin at 8 a.m. Registration can be done online at franklinturkeytrot.org; at the LDS Church from 7 – 9 p.m. the Wednesday before the race; or the morning of the race from 7 – 8 a.m. Official race t-shirts can be purchased online for $10 for those who register by November 2.

The registration fee of $20 is preferred as it allows the Pantry to “stretch our budget for leaner times,” said Lynch. “Our capacity to store the donated goods is extremely limited this time of year.” If participants prefer to donate goods, Lynch said they can check the list of current needs on the Pantry’s website at franklinfoodpantry.org.

Lynch is grateful for the hard work of Race Director Krystal Whitmore who volunteers her time and energy to coordinating this traditional event. “We are fortunate to have an incredibly hard-working group of volunteers, led by Krystal, who make this event possible,” said Lynch. “Krystal organizes church members, high school students, and her own family members to volunteer. The amount of work involved is amazing. We could not do this without them.”

"November 28 is #GivingTuesday. Following the retail events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this national day of giving is a chance to give back to those in need. It is a chance to give hope to those who are struggling to have enough to eat. Having enough food gives hope to our clients that they will not be too hungry to focus on all the things that matter.
Like getting homework done after school. Having the energy to job hunt. Being able to afford heat. Making friends.
Every bag of groceries our clients bring home is full of hope. More than 1,000 people, including nearly 300 children, count on the Pantry during the year to help make ends meet.
We hope to raise enough funds to fill 1,000 bags of groceries. You can give the gift of hope now with our #GivingTuesday online donation form.
Thank you for helping our neighbors, your community. They are counting on us.
The online form to donate to the Franklin Food Pantry for #Giving Tuesday can be found here

In the News: reasons to run Turkey Trot; Town Council sworn in

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"You’ve seen the signs around town advertising the local race and maybe you’ve dodged some of the runners on the road each year on Thanksgiving morning. Have you ever wondered what’s the big deal with Turkey Trots? Well, here’s five reasons to give them a shot.
1. You’ll have plenty of company - Nearly every community has a Turkey Trot. Some happen the weekend before Thanksgiving but most happen on Thanksgiving morning. It is the most popular day for road racing, according to a recent study by Runners World and the app RunKeeper. In fact, Thanksgiving passed July 4 as the most popular day for running a race in 2011 and never looked back. New Year’s Day is the third most popular day to run a race."

Register today for the Franklin Turkey Trot 5K Family Fun Run

On Thanksgiving morning, hundreds will gather at the Franklin Turkey Trot 5K Family Fun Run to help fight hunger. The registration fee of $20, or 20 nonperishables, goes directly to the Franklin Food Pantry, keeping donations local to help those in need during this holiday season.

The event begins and ends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) at 91 Jordan Road in Franklin. The race, open to runners and walkers of all ages, is a great opportunity for the entire family to get out and exercise together before their traditional Thanksgiving feast. And, there’s the added benefit of helping to relieve hunger in the community.

“We are inspired by the great turnout for the Franklin race,” said Erin Lynch, executive director for the Franklin Food Pantry. “Thanksgiving is a time for everyone to truly appreciate what they have, but also an occasion to think of others who are struggling to put food on their tables. The Turkey Trot rallies our community to give back and help protect others from the threat of hunger. We, and the 504 households we serve, are grateful to our community for coming out to support us.”

The November 24 race will begin at 8 a.m. Registration can be made online at franklinturkeytrot.org; at the LDS Church from 7 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday (today); or Thursday morning before the race from 7 – 8 a.m.

While the registration fee of $20 is preferred, individuals have the option of donating 20 nonperishables to register. The Pantry has a shortage of personal hygiene products, such as toilet paper, deodorant, shampoo, liquid hand soap and feminine products.

For more information, call 508-520-9864 or email franklinturkeytrot@gmail.com.
