The Shop Local for Holidays Series features Pour Richard’s Wine & Spirits

Here at Franklin Matters, we would like to encourage shopping locally during the upcoming holiday season.  Over the next few weeks, we plan to feature a variety of local establishments to highlight some of the wonderful gift options they can offer just a short distance away.  Avoid the crowds, avoid the parking scramble, and support your local shop owners.   

Pour Richard’s Wine & Spirits

Gift giving, home cooked meals and the special pairing of a fine wine or spirit epitomize the traditions for many this time of year.   This is why today we would like to highlight POUR RICHARD’S WINE & SPIRITS at their new location at 835 West Central Street #2 Franklin. They are currently celebrating their 10 year Anniversary serving the Franklin community. 

“Never Drink Ordinary” is their motto and I can see why.  As I entered the store, I immediately was greeted with the warm presence of the owner Ann Williams.  I quickly recognized the unique well-edited selection of wines, craft beers, ciders, and spirits that were available. 

With a long-standing experience in the beverage industry, Ann worked with Blackbutton Distilling to create a Pour Richards private label bespoke Gin.  This Gin was formulated with nothing added or subtracted, no sugar or cornstarch were added which lends to a rich spirit.   

A second Pour Richards blend included the Mad River Double Barrel Rum created in bourbon barrels, a third called the Hill Rock Bourbon Whiskey and a fourth, Ladies Choice Bourbon Whiskey. 

Pour Richards provides a highly personalized service.  The owner makes an effort to know all customers names and loves to provide suggestions to meet personal tastes. 

With advance notice the store is more than happy to create custom gift baskets where they can curate suggestions or fulfill any specific spirit requests you may have for your recipient.

Along with gift baskets, curated 3 or 6 pack of craft beers, cases of wine and tasting kits of various spirits can be packaged. To top off this personalized service, keep in mind that curbside pickup is available to expedite your purchases quickly during this hurried season.

100% proceeds are donated directly to the Forever Home Rescue New England of Medfield, MA. They are devoted to saving the lives of dogs. 

Artisan Chocolate and spirits pairing

Thursday, December 8th 7:00pm start

- Wrights Old School Chocolate of Walpole, MA will present an Expert Chocolatier that will explain the sourcing of cocoa beans and the process of making the chocolate.  $20.00 includes a tasting kit of various full size single origin chocolate bars along with spirit samples to taste that complement the chocolate pairing.  Tickets may be purchased the night of or online at www.pourrichardswine.com

Franklin Newcomers - Changed Plans for Wednesday's meeting - Nov 10

Come join your friends and neighbors at the Franklin Newcomers & Friends Club monthly Meeting.  Meet us upstairs at "3" Restaurant on Wednesday, November 10 at 7:30. Typically we meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at “3” . . .  however, we switched nights this month.

Last minute substitution!! We were scheduled to have a few members of the newly elected Town Council members speak, but their meeting has been postponed to the 10th – so we will reschedule them for sometime next year.

Terri Attinello, one of our members who also works at The Little Shop of Olive Oils, will speak about olive oil and balsamic vinegars – everything from history and cultural significance, health benefits, how to use and some fun facts. We will have some different oils and vinegars to sample. Complimentary appetizers and beverages will be served and a cash bar is available.

No need to be a newcomer to the area . . . and no need to RSVP.  Come join us and have fun while you make connections in your community.  We are a multi-generational club offering a wide range of activities for all ages with an emphasis on fun and camaraderie.  We are a member driven organization and are always excited to welcome new faces and new ideas.

Residents of Franklin, or any surrounding town that doesn't have a Newcomers Club, are welcome to join us the 3rdWednesday of the month.  We run our meetings September through May.  We also hold many fun and varied events throughout the year to stay connected.  We meet at “3” Restaurant, 461 W. Central Street, Franklin, upstairs in a private room.

Good news from Teddy Gallagher's GoFundMe effort

 "To All of Our Friends, Family and Loyal Customers,

Joe, Chris, and I would like to thank each of you all from the bottom of our hearts for your loving and generous contribution to the Go-Fund Me. Closing Teddy’s was one of the hardest things we have had to do, it was heartbreaking to say goodbye to our loved and valued employees. Our nephew Ricky Robidoux decided to do this Go-Fund me event and we are forever grateful. Ricky and some of our favorite talented musicians put on one of the best musical performances. During COVID not only have the restaurants been effected but the lives of these musicians has been as well, and during this difficult time they sang their hearts out for us.

Because of all of you, we will be able to re-open Teddy’s!!! We hope to in March, but we will keep you posted to the exact date. As the restrictions lift and more people are vaccinated, and people no longer fear for their safety we will host an event for all our contributors. Project Envoy - eat out or take out, and you help out!

 

The Interfaith Council Food Security Team is preparing to launch Project Envoy, a community driven project designed to support local restaurants that in-turn will donate some of their proceeds to the Franklin Food Pantry.

Project Envoy starts Feb. 1 and runs through April 30.  

As of this week, the following restaurants are participating: Rome, Acapulcos, Intermission Café, Franklin Central Pizza, George’s Pizza, Dacey’s Market & Deli, Santa Fe, Rhapsody’s Victorian Coffee House, King Street Café, Spruce Pond Creamery, and Franklin Pizza and Deli.

Patrons can visit the Franklin Food Pantry site each day to learn which restaurants are participating on what day as well as follow social media channels. The different Faith organizations in Franklin will also share the restaurant schedule.

"Teddy Gallagher’s Irish pub has been a staple in Franklin, MA for the last 5 years! They have incredible staff, food, beverages, and an all around great atmosphere.

Due to COVID-19 they have been forced to temporarily shut their doors. They are not sure if they will be able to reopen them.  However, with a little bit of help from us they may just be able to survive.

My Godparents started this place to give the community a place that feels like home. That’s just what it is! They support very young staff who are single parents, students, and thriving young adults.

Let’s try and help out the best we can to keep them afloat! Any little bit will help! I know the goal is high, but let’s face it the sky is the limit!
