Hello all!

The month of May is here which means our virtual 5k is just around the corner! Attached in this email is all the information you need to register for the event. Follow the link to sign up and get your free neck gaiter.

Also please forward this to all your friends and family to sign up as well! You can walk or run from anywhere! We will mail the neck gaiter to anyone outside the area so forward it to Aunt Sally in Florida or Uncle George in California! We have a limited number of gaiters so don't be left out!

Help us to make this a successful fundraiser for the SNETT!

Thanks so much for your support!

FM #522 - Doug MacPherson - HMEA - 04/06/21 (audio)

FM #522 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 522 in the series.

This session of the radio show shares my conversation with Doug MacPherson, Vice-President of Development and Public Relations for Horace Mann Education Association (HMEA). We had our conversation via conference bridge to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period.

Doug and I talked about the preparation for the HMEA’s IncredABLE 5K scheduled for May 23, 2021. In this pandemic period, the road race, community walk, and family fun field day has been converted to a virtual event. Virtual? Yes, we talk about how you can run your 5K on a certified 5K course and send your results to HMEA to count.

Our conversation includes the other elements of fund raising by HMEA event leading up to May 23. Links to the fund raising activities are included in the show notes.

The recording runs about 23 minutes, so let’s listen to my conversation with Doug. Audio file =

Virtual Franklin Turkey Trot - TODAY or anytime

Get ready to burn off those Thanksgiving calories before dinner AND give to the Franklin Food Pantry (https://www.franklinfoodpantry.org/).

This year the Franklin Food Pantry is holding its 9th Annual Franklin Turkey Trot 5K as a virtual race. The turkey trot will still officially run on Thanksgiving morning, November 26th, but you can run or walk your own personal 5K when it is most convenient for you. Once you have finished the race, you can post a picture on social media sharing that you completed your run and use the hashtag #turkeytrot2020

To register, go to http://www.franklinturkeytrot.org!

All proceeds from this event go directly to the Franklin Food Pantry to provide quality healthy food to hungry families in our local community. In 2019, the over 1000 entrants, donors and sponsors raised almost $21,000!

We hope you will still join us and register to support this great cause!

“This year, more than ever, we have seen the importance of the Food Pantry to our Franklin Community"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"The Franklin Food Pantry recently announced that the annual Franklin Turkey Trot will still happen in 2020, but will occur with a few changes to keep runners safe and provide help to pantry neighbors.

While the turkey trot will still officially run on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26, each runner can run or walk their own personal 5-kilometer course when it is most convenient and can map out their favorite course anywhere throughout town. Once runners have finished the race, they can post a picture on social media sharing that they completed their run and their time while tagging the Franklin Food Pantry and using the hashtag #turkeytrot2020.

The registration fee of $25 goes directly to the Franklin Food Pantry, keeping donations local to help feed those in need, and participants can register at franklinturkeytrot.org.

The Franklin Food Pantry will not be able to accept food donations in lieu of the fee. The first 100 registrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Runners can also purchase a T-shirt directly from the registration page."
