"King Philip got the ball back up by seven points with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter of Thursday morning’s holiday matinee at Macktaz Field and went back to work with the ground game that had been nearly unstoppable for most of the game.After running more than seven minutes off the clock, KP had first down from the Franklin 30 and looked like it was maybe one or two plays away from clinching the title-deciding showdown.Rudy Gately (21 carries, 116 yards) was stopped for a loss of three by Emmett Lackey. Quarterback Tommy McLeish took the next snap and went on a sweep around the left side, but Franklin read the play and pried the ball loose. Devine Johnson pounced on it at the 34 to give the visitors a chance with 6:11 on the clock.Mike Davide (11 carries, 40 yards) broke free for a 13-yard gain into KP territory and Jase Lyons (20-of-27, 232 yards) hit Josh Ribeiro on the sideline. Ribeiro refused to go out of bounds, cutting back infield and eventually gaining 17 to the KP 28. After back-to-back completions to Luke Davis, Lyons kept it himself, looking for contact in the secondary and being brought down at the three. Davide finished the drive to bring the Panthers within one."

The Franklin Food Pantry is pleased to announce that the annual Franklin Turkey Trot is back for its 11th year! The race will take place on Thanksgiving, November 24, 2022, at 8:00 AM and for the first time post-COVID, breakfast will be provided for all participants!
In addition, all registered runners will be automatically entered in the Turkey Trot Raffle for a chance to win terrific prizes from local businesses! The 5K starts at 91 Jordan Road, Franklin, MA and follows a lollipop route in the neighborhood.
The $25 registration fee goes directly to the Franklin Food Pantry, keeping donations local to help feed those in need. Participants can register online here. The Pantry will not be able to accept food donations instead of the fee. Runners can also purchase a t-shirt directly from the registration page to commemorate their experience.

"The Turkey Trot is such a wonderful tradition in our community, and we are incredibly grateful that through this event, we can continue to meet our neighbor's needs for food, services and programs. As we navigate a post-COVID world, we will extend our hybrid distribution model, offering both in-person and curbside distribution. We are also expanding our home delivery and mobile pantries to reach those who cannot come to us," said Tina Powderly, Executive Director of the Franklin Food Pantry.
"Last year we raised an incredible $35,000! With food prices increasing nationally by 13.1% and locally by 10.9% this year, it's more expensive than ever to serve our neighbors in need. Funds from events like the Turkey Trot are critical to our mission to provide hunger relief and vital services to our community."
"I'd also like to thank our Turkey Trot Chair, Erin Campbell. We are fortunate to have an incredibly hard-working group of dedicated volunteers, led by Erin, to bring this event to life," said Powderly. "Erin also works tirelessly to secure local businesses to cover the associated costs. The Turkey Trot is an amazing amount of work, and we could not hold this incredible community tradition without Erin's leadership."

About the Franklin Food Pantry
The Franklin Food Pantry offers supplemental food assistance and household necessities to more than 1,100 individuals per year. The Franklin Food Pantry is not funded by the Town of Franklin. As a private, nonprofit organization, we depend on donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and other strategic partners. We are grateful for our many partnerships, including that with the Greater Boston Food Bank, that allow us to achieve greater buying power and lower our costs.
Donations and grants fund our food purchases, keep our lights on, and put gas in our food truck. Other programs include home delivery, Weekend Backpack Program for Franklin school children in need, mobile pantry, emergency food bags and holiday meal packages. The Pantry is located at 43 W. The start? Déjà vu – all over again. Ugh!
King Philip forced a quick Panthers three-and-out. Then KP’s Gately sailed up the middle for 64 yards. Three plays later, senior QB Charlie Grant shot straight to Drew Danson deep in the end zone for first blood in under four minutes.
Then more bad news. The Panthers fumbled on first carry (oops) and KP glommed the ball in Franklin territory. Four plays put the Warriors on the 1 yard line. Two more, and Grant smuggled it in for a 14-0 lead with 6 minutes remaining in Q1.
Then, that first ray of hope.
Panthers pulled a perfect flea flicker to Gulla and back to Jared Arone, then to Shane Kindred for a huge 85-yard touchdown with a minute and change remaining in Q1. The Warriors blocked the point, but Franklin was on the board – and in the game, 14-6. That’s how the tide begins to turn. (Yesss. We can do this.)
Panthers brought focused football, pulling to 19 – a point under a tough Warrior team over the next 2 quarters. More touchdowns both ways in Q3. The last, with a 2-point conversion put Panthers up 27-20 going into Q4. With 2 minutes remaining, Franklin senior Jack Marino denied King Philip’s 4th and 1 try, locking up the Panthers 27-20 win over the Warriors in their 61st traditional Turkey Day tussle.
With this win, Franklin clinches its first-ever Hockomock League Kelley-Rex division title and first league crown since 2009. (Congrats!) It also snaps a 10-game Thanksgiving skid and an 18-game overall streak to the Warriors.
Yes, we’ll have another round of stuffing, thank you very much.
Big congrats to the Panthers for a great day of winning football.

Before the main course of turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce, the Franklin football team helped themselves to an early serving of stuffing.Franklin senior Jack Marino denied King Philip on a 4th and 1 situation just beyond midfield with two minutes left in the game to help the Panthers secure a 27-20 win over the Warriors in the 61st Thanksgiving clash between the two teams.With the win, Franklin clinches its first-ever Hockomock League Kelley-Rex division title and first league crown since 2009. It also snaps a 10-game Thanksgiving skid and an 18-game overall streak to the Warriors, their first win over KP since the same year they won their last title.“It’s incredibly satisfying, and I’m obviously proud as the coach but I’m just happy for the kids and the town,” said Franklin head coach Eian Bain. “The last couple of years, this game has been good and there’s been some close ones and not so close ones. Eventually, these are games we have to win to move our program forward.
