Massachusetts Craft Brewers Passport
From the Mass Great Outdoors Blog I find this:
Try this link to the Brewery Tours if the one above doesn't work
http://www.mass.gov/agr/massgrown/culinary_tourism/brewery_tours.htm
Note: When using the interactive Mass Grown Map, I do find that the listing of CSA Farms is missing the three farms in Franklin. Hoffman Farm, Akin-Bak Farm and Grateful Farm all offer CSA shares and are not currently listed.
Craft beer tourism is exploding across the country and in Massachusetts. There is a growing consumer interest in distinct, fresh and natural craft beers, and now there are more premium, high-quality craft beers to choose from. The Buy Local movement in Massachusetts has grown from local produce to craft beer, which supports both top notch products and a local connection.
The Massachusetts Craft Brewers Passport features a map of the Commonwealth, with the locations of local breweries split into five regions. Breweries that use Massachusetts-grown ingredients are indicated with a small tractor icon. At each brewery, you can get your passport stamped and when a region in completed, receive a free T-shirt! Downloadable passports and information for both brewers and growers is available at www.mass.gov/massgrown and http://www.mass.gov/agr/massgrown/culinary_tourism/brewery_tours.htm

Roy, Spilka, Warren tour Franklin's EMC plant
From Senator Spilka's office:
State Senator Karen Spilka (D-Ashland), State Representative Jeff Roy (D-Franklin) and U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren toured the EMC Corporation manufacturing plant in Franklin this afternoon. The legislators met with executives to discuss EMC’s latest innovations in data storage and security, followed by a tour of the plant. Senator Warren then addressed employees in a town hall style discussion.
“EMC showcases the leadership, innovation and success of Massachusetts manufacturing and technology,” said Senator Spilka. “I am thrilled that we were able to tour the plant with Senator Warren today. This visit really underscores the importance of continued public support for research and development, manufacturing and workforce development initiatives – here in the Commonwealth and nationally.”
The legislators had the opportunity to view EMC Corporation’s data storage products in various stages of the manufacturing and quality-testing process and to discuss the company’s workforce development, education and community involvement priorities.
“EMC consistently shows a strong commitment to workforce training and educational partnerships. These manufacturing and technology jobs are the kinds of jobs that we, as legislators, should be creating and supporting. I am so pleased we were able to have this meeting and see some important examples of innovative Massachusetts manufacturing firsthand,” Spilka said.

Franklin High School Tour (photo essay)
The tour of Franklin High School on Wednesday, Apr 24 drew the best attendance of all the school tours this year. Principal Peter Light welcomed all and was joined by Superintendent Maureen Sabolinski, Asst Superintendent Sally Winslow, and School Committee members Pamela McIntyre and John Jewell. The tour started outside as it was still daylight and a good time to get a teaser of what the new building looks like before getting into the current facility.
There is magic underway! Steel and concrete are being transformed into a wonderful learning place.
In this front right corner, the Principal's office will be located where the circular section appears.
This is one of the design views showing by comparison the front right section of the building as it will look when finished.
Additional design photos can be found here or on the NewFHS website
The cranes are raising the additional sections along the front where the library and gymnasium will be.
In the back right corner of the new building, they are just starting to frame out the walls. This would be one of the classrooms in the new media center.
The steel pieces sticking up with the orange caps are the footings for the stairway that will be the grand stairway up from the main entrance.
There is an empty space just beyond this first section of building. This will be the opening for the interior courtyard. It will allow light and air into the interior sections of the building.
As we moved inside to the current facility, I spent time capturing some of the art work along the halls and murals on the walls. Discussions are underway on which of the mural and other art work will move to the new building and which will not. The students in the new building will need to make it their own space while carrying some of the past with them.
Walking along H Wing, there are several large murals on the walls. This one of a Roman scene.

I did not complete the tour on Wednesday evening. I left before it finished to get to the Town Council meeting and report on the happenings there. You can find my notes updated with the DPW presentation copy here

Here’s your chance to see the inside of the Jefferson Elementary School in Franklin, MA. Jefferson Elementary is one of the most recently built schools in town, as amply demonstrated by the video and photo tour of the school provided below.http://www.02038.com/2013/03/tour-jefferson-elementary/
Take a few minutes to tour the inside of the Oak Street Elementary School in Franklin, MA. The school got a full renovation in 2004. As the videos and photos below show, this is a beautiful primary education facility!http://www.02038.com/2013/03/oak-st-elementary-tour/

JF Kennedy Elementary School Tour - October 2012
I was part of a few residents who took advantage of the first tour of the JF Kennedy School. This is the first of a series of tours. I would encourage everyone to find one or more to take advantage of. It is a great opportunity to see the school in a relaxed and informal manner.
Principal Joan Toye welcomed us. She was joined on the tour by School Superintendent Maureen Sabolinski, Asst Superintendent Sally Winslow and School Committee Chairperson Paula Mullen and Roberta Trahan.
We started in the entrance lobby
The PCC is very active
Down the corridor to the right to view a kindergarten room
another classroom (and you'll see ladybugs all over this school)
the library
the computer lab
back by the main office to the cafeteria
more classrooms
the gymnasium
do the ropes bring back any memories?
Smart boards are in most classrooms
Tile projects adorn some of the wall space
Another recent tile project
Yes, the tour got us into the maintenance room to see the furnace!
I love the tennis balls on the feet of the chairs, such a good idea
Join the next tour currently scheduled for 6:00 PM on October 25th. You get a three for one tour by visiting the ECDC, Oak St and Horace Mann as all three buildings are in the same complex.
For the remainder of the schedule check here
