In the News: Clerk and Council member take roles, Mother of Night, Scout Pancake breakfast

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin
The town saw its new town clerk and final Town Council member get sworn in Friday after a recount delayed the two from assuming their positions.
Teresa Burr was sworn in as Franklin's first new town clerk in 31 years, while outgoing Town Clerk Deborah Pellegri was sworn in to her new seat on the council.
The matter had been delayed because of a challenge to the result of the Nov. 3 town election. Town Clerk candidate Diane Padula-O'Neill requested a recount in that race, as Burr had defeated her by only 32 votes - a margin of less than 1 percent.

Franklin in the snow

Safe walking around town has been challenged by the lack of passable sidewalks. Photo ops have also been limited as once you seen the white snow, what else is there?

Ah, there is more if you look closely.

Join me on the adventures around town. Since I am catching up to this, not all the photos are from the same walk.

Franklin Public Schools: Weather Update

A message from FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
Hello,
Just when you thought it was safe, here I am emailing you again on yet another Sunday afternoon about my least favorite topic --snow... The most recent forecasts are calling for snow beginning about 3:00 PM today and continuing until 3:00 or 4:00 AM tomorrow.
As always, I will continue to watch the weather advisories and will be collaborating with the Franklin Police, DPW and Facilities tonight and early tomorrow morning regarding the conditions of roads and schools.  It does not look like there will be much accumulation and with any luck the timing will be in our favor.
My hope is that at worst, we will be looking at a delay.  However, please note that we will not be making a decision until tomorrow morning, so stay tuned!
Your continued patience and support this winter are greatly appreciated!
Respectfully,
Sally WinslowAssistant Superintendent of Schools

Franklin Public Schools: Update - there is school Tuesday, Feb 10th

A message from FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

Dear Franklin Families and School Staff,
After consulting with the DPW and Facilities Department I anticipate that schools will be open and in session as scheduled on Tuesday February 10th.
Roads and parking lots have been plowed and treated and are in as good shape as can be expected given the record-breaking snowfall we have experienced in the past couple of weeks.
Should anything change with this crazy New England weather that requires a cancellation or a delay, I will send something out by 5:00 AM tomorrow morning.
We will continue to make emergency transportation available for students who typically walk to school.  Please contact your child's school to discuss your child's arrival/dismissal plan.
Please remember that we need to obtain written permission from a parent or guardian in order to let children ride the bus who ordinarily do not do so. As sidewalks are not plowed, this service will be in place for the remainder of the week.
As always, parents are in the best position to make decisions about how your child will get to school.  With this unprecedented additional snow piled onto the already existing snow, the snow banks are quite high and roads are slippery so please take extra precautions.
For FHS students who may be driving to school, please allow extra time as roads are narrow and speed should be reduced.  Please be vigilant for pedestrians and other cars.  Parking at the high school continues to be limited based on the amount of snow, and carpooling is recommended.
Many thanks to the DPW and Facilities staff and administration who continue to work tirelessly to maintain our roads and school campuses to ensure the safety of the Franklin community.
Thank you for your continued patience and support during this unprecedented winter.
Respectfully,
Sally Winslow

Franklin Public Schools: Update

A message from FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
Good Morning,
I hope you are all weathering the storm. As DPW is using resources and efforts to keep our roads open so we  affirm the decision to close school on Wednesday.

We anticipate school will reopen on Thursday morning as planned.

Students who walk to school daily will be picked up at regular bus stops. Bus routes are posted on the web site in Transportation folder. Scroll to Departments, scroll down to Transportation and click on bus routes.
No school activities or community programs until Thursday.

NationalGrid: Be Prepared for the Winter Storm

To view this email as a web page, click here.
ng-logo-yellow-tag
Major Winter Storm
A winter storm system will continue hitting our area with blizzard-like conditions including high winds, freezing temperatures and moderate coastal flooding.
National Grid field crews and support personnel have been deployed in the event the weather causes damage to our region's electric system. We have increased staffing and field personnel and are ready to address any service issues that may arise from the storm.
While storm preparations are important, so too is the safety of our customers and employees. Please exercise caution and keep a safe distance from crew work locations, especially when driving where visibility might be limited by snow.
Here are some tips to help keep everyone informed and safe:
To report an outage, please call 1-800-465-1212, visit www.ngrid.com/juno or download our mobile app on the Apple iTunes or Droid stores.
Power problems can sometimes interrupt public water supply systems or disable well pumps. Please make sure to have a good supply of bottled drinking water handy, as well as some canned food and flashlight with batteries.
Never touch downed power lines, and always assume that any fallen lines are live electric wires. If you see one, report it immediately to National Grid by calling 1-800-465-1212.
If you use a generator to supply power during an outage, be sure to operate it outdoors. Before operating generators, disconnect from National Grid's system by shutting off the main breaker located in the electric service panel. Failure to do this could jeopardize the safety of line crews and the public.
If you lose power, turn off any appliances that were on when the power went off, but leave one light on so you will know when power is restored.
Check on elderly family members, neighbors and others who may need assistance during an outage period.
People who depend on electric-powered life support equipment, such as a respirator, should let National Grid know. To register as a life support customer, call the company's Customer Service Center at 1-800-322-3223.
We'll continue to share safety tips, information on outages and any updates on restoration through @NationalGridUS on Twitter, Facebook.com/NationalGrid and ngrid.com/juno.

Franklin Public Schools: Weather Questions

A message from FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

Hello and Happy 2015
We have had a few inquiries about canceling school tomorrow so I wanted to offer an update.  We anticipate school being open at the regular time.
We have consulted with facilities personnel and our transportation provider and we do not anticipate any concerns with the heat in schools or our busses. However, if we experience an HVAC problem or our busses are running late it may necessitate a delay.
I will be in communication with our transportation vendor at 5:00 a.m. If the busses will be running late due to the cold we will delay school- we want to avoid having any child standing at a bus stop awaiting a bus that may not arrive in a timely manner.
In the interest of safety we have directed principals to open school doors early. We do not want any students waiting outside of a school in these temperatures.
Also our bus drivers have been directed to pick up any students who may be walking. If the parent of a walker cannot drive a child to school please feel free to use the bus that runs near your home. If the situation changes we will communicate and respond as quickly as possible.
Thank you and stay warm.
Respectfully,Maureen
