F. Hearings - Public Hearing - 7:10 pm
1. Tax Classification Hearing
motion to open hearing, seconded, passed 9-0
Kevin Doyle, Ken Norman, Chris Feeley
based upon calendar year 2016 market data
approx 2% increase in single family residential property
last year was a revaluation year, now on a five year cycle (used to be a three year cycle) 2022 will be next revaluation year, interim years are market valuation adjustments
all the sheets and info in the package were approved by the Dept of Revenue before being shared here
Prop 2.5% is related to the overall property tax levy but not to the individual residential valuations
first two tax bills are estimates, and second two bills are current but they also reflect the increase that should have been paid earlier had it been known
annual updates should help to smooth out the changes and so avoid some 'sticker shock' with major changes
Max Morrongiello - speaking to the tax rate that is insufficient to support the town needs, We need to do more for the schools, we are on the bottom of the funding for schools. teacher retention and school class sizes need to be talked about.
Nutting - clarification on the levy limit, the amount that the Town can raise to support the budget. There will be plenty of opportunity to talk about the budget which is the only way to raise more, via a budget override which would take a vote of the citizens
motion to close the hearing, second, passed 9-0
