“This community is action-oriented and has a can-do attitude I deeply respect"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"Superintendent Sara Ahern has been going from school to school sitting in on classes, hosting forums, and meeting with parents and other stakeholders to learn as much as she can about her new district.
Ahern highlighted her observations to the School Committee on Jan. 23, and while she had many positive things to say about the dedication of Franklin parents and teachers to their children, she also pointed out a few areas that could use improvement. Ahern took over this summer for Maureen Sabolinski, who retired at the end of last year.
The report, part of Ahern’s entry plan to the district, is a compilation of observations she gathered by visiting all 11 schools multiple times to perform observations on about 164 classrooms and other workplaces."

In the News: ladybugs to gather again; “A Pirate’s Life for Me”

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"In the spirit of springtime, the Franklin Downtown Partnership hopes to find all of the ladybug sculptures purchased by business owners in 2014, so the metal bugs can scale buildings and keep park-goers company.
Lisa Piana with the Downtown Partnership said the sculptures always bring smiles, and she hopes to see them all outside for everyone to enjoy.
“They’re really fun to look at, each one is unique,” she said. “We thought it would be fun to walk downtown and see them in all different places.”
Businesses, which bought the ladybugs from the cultural council about three years ago, should lend them for public display this spring, Piana said."

FM #138 - Franklin Town Government 101 (audio)

FM #138

This internet radio show or podcast is number 138 in the series for Franklin Matters.

This recording is of the Franklin Town Government 101 event held on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

The program featured

  • Dr. Robert Krim, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Framingham State University
  • Franklin State Rep. Jeff Roy has previously held positions on the Franklin School Committee and Town Council
  • a conversation and question and answer period with Town Council representative Tom Mercer and School Committee member Denise Schultz, moderated by Steve Sherlock of Franklin Matters

Yes, I had the privilege to be the moderator for the discussion portion and I think we did well. If you bump into someone around town, hopefully you’ll be able to make a connection and have a civil discussion on what we need to do to advance Franklin as a community.

The recording runs just about 2 hours. I did remove the portion when we took a break for coffee and refreshments. Without further ado, here is the recording
