Franklin Education Foundation (FEF) Receives $50,000 from Middlesex Savings Bank

The Franklin Education Foundation (FEF) today announced it received a $50,000 gift from Middlesex Savings Bank. The support will allow FEF to increase the level of funding for next year’s grant program for Franklin Public Schools.

FEF distributes funds to Franklin Public Schools in the form of special grants. All Franklin Public School staff members are eligible to submit creative, innovative ideas for programs or activities that would not traditionally be funded by tax dollars. To see a list of programs FEF has funded over the years, visit www.franklined.org/grants.

“This extremely generous donation by Middlesex Savings Bank will allow us to fund even more innovative programs in Franklin Public Schools next year” said Lisa Brady, FEF President. “Fundraising by nonprofit education foundations gets tougher every year, and this donation from Middlesex Savings Bank supports FEF’s financial stability to be a reliable source of funding for innovative educational programs developed by our very talented Franklin educators.”

“Middlesex Savings Bank has great respect for the education foundations in our community,” said Michael McAuliffe, President and CEO of Middlesex Savings Bank. “They work hard to support projects and programs that foster learning and creativity. We hope these donations will make their jobs easier this year and are excited to see their existing academic programs flourish or new ones come to life.”

The Franklin Education Foundation Announces the 2017-2018 Pinnacle Award

The Franklin Education Foundation (FEF) announces this year’s FEF Pinnacle Award grant to Kathleen Merten and Ann Williams of Kennedy Elementary School for their project to enhance English, science and social studies curriculum with digital devices and virtual reality viewers. The Pinnacle Award is given to the most meritorious application applying for the award, and provides up to $5000 for the project budget, rather than the standard $3000 budget.

With this award, FEF has awarded 15 grants totaling $33,310 for the 2017-2018 school year to teachers in the Franklin Public School (FPS) system. A committee composed of FEF representatives and FPS staff read all proposals through a blind review process and selected the recipients.

Since its inception in 1997, the FEF has awarded over $375,000 in grants to FPS. Yearly fundraisers such as November’s Harlem Wizards basketball game, the annual Trivia Bee, as well as an annual fund campaign, provide much appreciated support from businesses, families, and organizations for the FEF grants.

Town Administrator Jeffrey Nutting said the development was expected to resemble the Cook's Farm project currently under construction along Rte. 140, near Franklin Country Club. The single-family residential VII zone was created to allow for that development."

"Lack of rain in the state has area towns taking different approaches to deal with the shortage, ranging from bans to restrictions.
Milford’s water ban has limited outside watering to hand-held hoses between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m for no more than one hour. Since June 1, the town's water conservation level has been at Stage 3, which forbids irrigating, car washing and pool filling.
Last year, according to the National Weather Service, Worcester received 6.35 inches of precipitation during June. This year, the area has only received 1.38 inches in June so far."
