FHS baseball, softball and tennis teams post wins on Tuesday; discus school record for Lily Deforge

Baseball = Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 10 – Final (5 Inn.)
– Alfred Mucciarone gave up one hit over four innings and Ethan Voellemicke struck out the side in the fifth, as Franklin shut out Attleboro for its second win in as many days. Chris Goode and Evan Raider each drove in a pair of runs for the Panthers. Attleboro’s best chance came in the first Nate George drew a leadoff walk and two batters later Danny Johnson hit a sinking liner to right, but Eisig Chin made a stellar diving catch. Franklin took control in the bottom half with four runs. Ryan Gerety led off with a single and Jack Marino was hit by a pitch.

Attleboro failed to handle a pair of bunts and both runners came in to score. Chin drove in a run with a single and would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch. Franklin added three more in the second. One-out walks to Joe Tirrell and Gerety and an infield single for Marino loaded the bases. Goode plated one with a sac fly and Raider followed with a single to bring in two. In the third, Franklin took advantage of a couple errors to add three more runs. Ben Jarosz singled and would score on a wild pitch, Henry DiGiorgio reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on an error, and Tirrell walked and came in to score on a sac fly from Goode. Hayden Hagerty broke up Mucciarone’s no-hitter to start the fourth but Franklin’s starter retired the next three hitters to strand the runner in scoring position.

HockomockSports.com: FHS softball preview for Spring 2022 season

HockomockSports.com has published their preview of the softball teams for the Hockomock League. The Franklin portion of the article is shared here along with the link to read the full article covering the remainder of the league.

FRANKLIN
2021 Record: 6-9
2021 Finish: Reached Div. 1 South Preliminary Round
Coach: Katie Holbrook

Last season, Franklin showed that it could score runs in bunches, hitting double digits in five of its 15 games, but the Panthers could also allow runs in bunches with teams reaching double digits six times. With seven returning players, second-year coach Katie Holbrook is hoping that experience and depth will carry the Panthers back up the standings and into the postseason.

Franklin will have depth in the circle this season with senior Aislinn Lavery taking the bulk of the innings and junior Kiera Kotwicki able to step in when needed. Both will mix pitches and keep teams off-balance. Junior Hailey Fales will be back behind the plate, adding another layer of experience to the pitching staff. Senior Julia White battled an injury all spring in 2021 but she is back healthy and back in the middle of the infield and the order. Junior Georgia Harvey is a versatile player who can fill in at multiple positions and batted 0.426 as a sophomore.

Sophomore Carly Johnson-Pellegri had an impressive rookie season and will be moving from second to short and senior Hannah Cacciapaglia is back at first, and in the middle of the order, after recovering from an injury that kept her out all of last spring. The outfield looks strong for the Panthers this season. Senior Kelly Moussa has a strong arm in right and juniors Reece Allen and Dana Stott are two newcomers that could play big roles for the team this season.

“We have a lot of different players who can jump in and be the spark at any given moment,” Holbrook said. “There are a lot of new players in the mix, but they are already showing signs of coming together as a team and leadership is not lacking in this group. If they can remain poised and confident and play their game, we should do well this season.”

Julia White, one of the Ten Softball Players to Watch for 2022 Hockomock League

HockomockSports.com has posted their listing of the Ten Players to Watch for 2022 for Softball. We shared the info on Julia White of FHS and provide the link to the full listing.

JULIA WHITE, SENIOR – FRANKLIN

Franklin showed flashes last season of being able to make a postseason run, splitting games with both Attleboro and Mansfield, and fighting back in a remarkable 16-14 win over Oliver Ames, but the Panthers will be looking for a little more consistency this year. Having White fully healthy will be a big step forward. The senior second baseman battled a hand injury all last year but she is ready from the start this spring and gives Franklin a solid defensive player in the middle infield and also a run creator at the top of the order.

A solid hitter to all fields, White is also a threat on the base paths, taking extra bases and getting into scoring position for the middle of the lineup. White getting on base more this season and causing havoc will be a big boost for the Franklin offense. The league is, as usual, loaded and as deep as ever, so for the Panthers to get back into the state tournament mix they’ll need White’s leadership both in the field and at the plate.

Baseball = Taunton, 3 @ Franklin, 4 – Final
Ryan Lanigan. the founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com, provides the baseball game recap:
"Through seven games this season, the Franklin baseball team hasn’t faced too much adversity, outscoring opponents 71-18 in dominating fashion.

So when head coach Zach Brown looked up at the scoreboard after 3.5 innings and saw a three-run deficit — the first time the Panthers had trailed by that much all season — he knew he was going to learn something new about his team.

Six straight singles and four runs later, the Panthers were back on top, an advantage they would hold the rest of the way in a 4-3 win over the Tigers.

“We talk about it all the time, adding another tool to the toolbox,” Brown said after his team improved to 9-0 on the season. “So knowing that you can come back in a game against a good team is important. The message to the players was that we were going to learn a lot about us as a team. The game doesn’t go according to a script as much as we’d love it to. Taunton is a really good team, they’re the defending state champs so expect nothing less than a really good fight.”
