The FHS baseball and girls tennis teams post wins on Friday

Baseball = Franklin, 6 @ Attleboro, 4 – Final 

– A pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning pushed the Panthers past Attleboro, giving Franklin its second straight win and third in the last four games. The host Bombardiers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game 4-4 going into the seventh but Franklin fought back and regained the lead. Senior Rex Cinelli led off with a single, senior Henry Digiorgio reached on a bunt single, both moved up on a groundout, and then both came home on a single from junior Zach Winer. Sophomore Sean Kryzak (1.1IP, 1H, 1BB, 2K, who came in during the sixth inning, retired the side in order in the bottom half to close it out. Cinelli and Winer both finished with two hits while Jake Shaugnessy notched two RBI in the win. Attleboro’s Michael Huntington went 3-for-4 with a triple from the leadoff spot, driving in two runs and scoring once.

Softball = Attleboro, 11 @ Franklin, 5 – Final

– Attleboro jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning and then exploded for seven runs in the third to pull away from the host Panthers. Freshman Lola Ronayne smacked a two-run double in the third at-bat of the game to present the Bombardiers with the advantage. Emily Eby added a two-run single in the top of the third to cap the seven-run burst from Attleboro. Rylie Camacho finished with a team-high three hits along with two runs and an RBI, Ronayne (four RBI, run) and Madison Moran (RBI, run) each added two hits, and Eby finished with a hit, two RBI, and a run scored. Jenna Callahan got the win with five runs against but just two earned, scattering six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings; Ronayne tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief with a pair of hits and a pair of strikeouts. Sophomore Ciara O’Brien went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI for the Panthers while Katie Dowley and Sarah Boozang (2 RBI) each had two hits and a run scored.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin vs. Concord-Carlisle, 4:30

Boys Tennis = Attleboro, 3 @ Franklin, 2 – Final 

– Attleboro won both its doubles matches, including a three-set win at second doubles, to pick up the road victory and maintain its lead atop the Kelley-Rex division. Tyler Rocchio won 6-1, 6-0 at second singles to get the Bombardiers on the board and the first doubles team of Brady Rosen and Luke Hinton rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Attleboro clinched the win at second doubles. Franklin’s team of Gabe Terry and AJ Trull took the first set 6-1, but Dane Holske and Noam Cook rallied to win the next two 6-2, 6-0 to seal the third point for the Bombardiers. Franklin’s Jay Gorgas won in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) at first singles and Adarsh Pressanna pulled out a third-set tiebreaker to beat Jackson Fazzina (6-4, 6-7, 10-4) at third singles.

Girls Tennis = Franklin, 5 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final

– In a battle of teams at the top of the Kelley-Rex division, Franklin took all five matches to stay unbeaten on the season. Sophomore Gabby Cura emerged from a tight first set in a tiebreaker and took the match 7-6 (3), 6-2, senior Chloe Essam erased a one-set deficit to score a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles, and senior Brooke Taylor was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 third singles victory for the Panthers. Franklin’s first doubles team of juniors Sydney Tolonen and Izzy Trull secured a 6-4, 6-1 win at first doubles while senior Mia Dewsnap and sophomore Isabelle Simino teamed up for a 6-2, 6-2 second doubles victory.

Baseball = Franklin, 10 @ Canton, 1 – Final 

– Franklin bounced back from an extra innings loss on Monday with a big win on the road over Canton, scoring seven runs in the final two innings to pull away for good. The host Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit down to 3-1 but the Panthers pushed a pair across in the sixth and added five more in the top of the seventh. Henry Digiorgio (RBI, run) and Mike Davide (two RBI, two doubles) each had two this for Franklin while senior Rex Cinelli added a double, two RBI, and a run. Matt Miller got the win on the mound for the visitors, scattering five hits and two walks with just one unearned run allowed, striking out four in six innings. Brian Auciello tossed a scoreless inning in relief for the Panthers. Sophomore Shane Kelleher had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs, Nick Gillis added a double, and Kyle Redquest hit a triple.

Softball = Canton, 4 @ Franklin, 9 – Final 

– Franklin established an early lead with a five-run first and a two-run second and never looked back to take down visiting Canton. Junior Josie Drucker went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI while junior Marley Allen (double) recorded a pair of RBI and scored once. Sarah Boozang added a triple and drove in one run for the Panthers. Senior Maddie Bergeron got the win in the circle, scattering 10 hits and two walks, surrendering four runs with four strikeouts in a complete game effort. Jess Wright (run) and Laura Valkanas (RBI) each had two hits for the Bulldogs while Hannah King had a hit and an RBI.

Boys Tennis = Canton, 1 @ Franklin, 4 – Final 

– Franklin defended home court with a singles sweep plus one more win from doubles play against visiting Canton. Jay Gorgas (first singles, 6-3, 6-1), Ahan Shetty (second singles, 6-2, 6-1) and Vikram Chakrabhavi (third singles, 7-6 (6), 6-4) swept singles action with straight-set victories for the Panthers, and the team of Gabe Terry and AJ Trull secured a 6-0, 6-3 second doubles win. Canton’s Matt Wright and Noah Burke teamed up at first singles and rallied from a one-set deficit for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.

Baseball = North Attleboro, 5 @ Franklin, 4 – Final (8 inn.) 

– North Attleboro erased a three-run deficit in the top of the seventh to keep the game alive and then plated the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to stun Franklin in extra innings. North took the first lead of the game with a run in the top of the third but the Panthers scored three in the bottom half and made it 4-1 on a sac fly from Henry Digiorgio in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the seventh, freshman Jake Ronci singled up the middle to score Ryan Bannon (single) to make it 4-2, and then with two outs, sophomore Bryce Silva singled to right to bring both junior Kyle Malcolmson and Ronci home to make it 4-4. Lucas Crovo reached on an error to lead off the top of the eighth inning, and then with two outs, Malcolmson reached on another error allowing Crovo to scamper home for the go-ahead run. Bannon (2.1IP, 0H, 0BB, 2K) retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win. Gio Martello got the start for North, surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks, striking out three in four innings while Dillon Waterhouse tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. Austin Campbell struck out 12 batters for the Panthers, allowing three runs on two hits and four walks.

Softball = Franklin, 11 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final 

– North Attleboro seized a three-run lead after just an inning of action but Franklin answered with 11 unanswered runs over the final four frames to take the win on the road. Lucy Palmer (two hits) and Jill Lewicki both drew bases-loaded walks to score runs while Maryellen Charette had an infield single to plate Arianna McDavitt (double) to make it 3-0. Franklin’s offense roared to life in the top of the fourth inning with five runs. Josie Drucker (infield single), Ava Florest (walk), and Ella Weston (single) all drove in a run to tie the game while back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Katie Dowley and Sarah Boozang pushed the Panthers in front. Boozang added a two-run single in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh to extend Franklin’s advantage. Carly Johnson-Pellegri, Marley Allen, and Sophia Sacramone each chipped in with two hits apiece for the Panthers. Sacramone earned the win, surrendering three runs on six hits and six walks, striking out seven.

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 9 @ Lexington, 6 – Final 

– Franklin built a four-goal lead with a strong defensive first half and held the lead the rest of the way in a 9-6 win on the road at Lexington. Dylan McEvoy and Eddie O’Brien each scored a pair in the first half while Ryan Grasso found the back of the net once as the Panthers staked a 5-1 lead at the break. McEvoy and Drew Hansen scored third quarter goals as Franklin stayed ahead (7-4) going into the fourth, where Seamus Conlan and Ben Paterson each scored to get to the final score.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 8 vs. Weymouth, 11 – Final 

– A shorthanded Franklin squad battled back from an early deficit but came up short against Weymouth. The visiting Wildcats staked a five-goal lead in the opening quarter before the Panthers clawed their way back into the game. Julia Flynn paced the Panthers’ offense with four goals and two assists while Erin Peterson, Gabi Consigli, Vera Hansen, and Emily Carney (eight draw controls) each scored once. Norah MacCallum was strong defensively for Franklin with three ground balls.

Boys Tennis = Franklin, 2 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final 

– A pair of doubles wins plus a victory at third singles handed North Attleboro a key division win over visiting Franklin. The team of seniors Carson Dameron and Caleb Cheney rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles while the all-senior tandem of Aaryen Anjnu and Arnav Raghuvashi landed a 6-4, 6-2 win at second doubles for the Rocketeers. North’s lone win in singles action came from junior Darren Liang, who picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win at third singles. Franklin’s Jay Gorgas (first singles, 6-4, 6-0) and Ahan Shetty (second singles, 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8)) had wins for the Panthers.

Girls Tennis = North Attleboro, 2 @ Franklin, 3 – Final 

– In a battle of division title hopefuls, Franklin’s doubles play proved pivotal as the Panthers pounced for a 3-2 win over North Attleboro. Franklin swept both doubles matches with the experienced duo of Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen prevailed in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-3) to secure the final point for the Panthers. Ava Davies and Izzy Trull added a 6-4, 6-3 win at second doubles and Isabelle Simino added a 6-4, 6-3 win at a competitive third singles contest. North Attleboro senior Lauren Hunt was impressive in a 6-1, 6-1 first singles win while junior Megan Atwood won by the same score at second singles for the Rocketeers.

FHS baseball tops North Quincy on Friday

Baseball = Franklin, 5 vs. North Quincy, 3 – Final 

– Franklin did all of its damage offensively in one inning and got a pair of great pitching performances in a win over North Quincy. The visitors plated a run in the first inning but the Panthers pounced in the bottom of the second with a five-spot to take the lead for good. Freshman Joey Goguen and senior Dom Caccavelli had back-to-back RBI singles to give the Panthers the lead and both of those turned into runs as courtesy runner Brian Auciello and Caccavelli came home to score on an errant pickoff attempt. Senior Rex Cinelli capped the scoring with a two-out single, bringing classmate Henry Digiorgio (IBB) home. Senior Jake Shaughnessy earned the win after recording seven strikeouts in four innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk. Senior Matt Miller shined in relief, allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings, striking out a pair.

Softball = Franklin, 6 vs. Braintree, 17 – Final 

– A five-run second inning put Franklin ahead early but Braintree’s offense proved to be too much as the Wamps scored in every inning on their way to a 17-6 victory. Sophomore Ella Weston had a big day from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Katie Dowley (run) and Sarah Boozang (RBI, run) each had a double while Carly Pellegri-Johnson drove in three runs for the Panthers.

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 18 vs. Wakefield, 1 – Final 

– Franklin senior Dylan McEvoy had a big game with seven points to help the Panthers roll past visiting Wakefield. McEvoy scored five goals and had two assists for the Panthers, who staked an 11-0 lead at halftime. CJ Perro added four goals and one helper while Ben Paterson notched a hat trick along with one assist in the win.

FHS softball tops Sharon on Thursday

Softball = Franklin, 15 @ Sharon, 2 – Final

– For Sharon, seniors Maddie Hu and Natalie David had strong performances at the dish. Hu had a pair of hits, one double and one triple, and came home to score both the Eagles’ runs with David driving her in both times. Annabel Gruss also had two hits for Sharon.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 5 @ Westwood, 11 – Final

– In a rematch from last year’s state semifinal, Franklin fell short on the road in a hard-fought battle at Westwood. Emily Carney had six draw controls and added two goals while Gabi Consigli, Katie Ryan, and Vera Hansen each scored once. Sophia Sacchetti chipped in with a pair of assists while Keira Kucich had a strong game defensively for the Panthers with four caused turnovers.

Baseball = Franklin, 6 @ Taunton, 2 – Final 

– Franklin overcame an early deficit, scoring six unanswered runs between the second, fourth, and fifth innings to bounce back from a loss on Monday, taking down rival Taunton. The host Tigers plated a pair in the bottom of the first when Dwayne Burgo had an RBI ground out to score Andrew Cali (two hits) and Joseph Benoit (two-out walk) scored on a wild pitch. Franklin wasted little time striking back as Lukas Phillips (walk), Sean Kryzak (single), and Mike Davide (bunt single) all reached to start the inning. A one-out single from Henry Digiorgio drove in Phillips, and Kryzak scored on an RBI groundout from Matt Luccini. Dom Caccavelli (walk) scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to take the lead before Franklin tacked on three more in the fifth. A leadoff double from Luccini led to pinch runner Cole Sidwell scoring on a single from Matt Miller, Rex Cinelli (two hits) scored on a passed ball, and Miller came home on a wild pitch. Jake Shaughnessy got the win for the Panthers with two earned runs allowed on six hits and two walks, striking out six in 6.2 innings of work; Leo Meuse came in and got a strikeout for the final out. Juniors Johnny Escobalez (2.1 IP, 0H, 2BB, 1K) and Ryan Crowley (0.2IP, 1K) both pitched well in relief for Taunton.

Softball = Taunton, 10 @ Franklin, 1 – Final 

– Taunton set the tone with a big first inning and Catherine Larson impressed in her first start of the season as the Tigers returned home with a win over Franklin. The Tigers pushed across six runs in the first inning, added one more in the third, and plated a trio in the fourth. Mia Torres (two runs), Bella Bourque (RBI), Adrianna Amaral (two doubles, RBI, run), Larson (two RBI, run), and Madison Crowley (double, three RBI) all had two hits for Taunton. Larson allowed one run on five hits and no walks, striking out nine in a complete game performance for the win. Marley Allen had two hits for the Panthers.

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 5 @ Sharon, 3 – Final 

– Franklin overcame a two-goal halftime deficit and pitched a shutout in the second to take down the upset-minded Eagles. Sharon scored twice in the first and once more in the second to stake a 3-1 edge at the break. Drew Hansen, Tom Quinn (one assist), and Dylan McEvoy scored third quarter goals to push the Panthers in front and Anthony Lampasona had the lone goal of the fourth to help secure the win. McEvoy finished with two goals while Zach Langevin had two assists in the win. Matt Corvi was terrific in the cage with 16 saves while Ben Paterson won 11-of-12 faceoffs.

Girls Lacrosse = Sharon, 4 @ Franklin, 18 – Final 

– Franklin took care of business at home, racing out to a big lead against visiting Sharon and never looking back. The Panthers had a dozen different players register a point in the win including three points from Izzy Cross (two goals, one assist) and one goal each from Julia Flynn (assist), Callie Joyce, Erin Peterson, Kendall Mone, and Ailish Houlker. Maise Streesman made five saves in the net for the win.

Boys Tennis = Taunton @ Franklin, 3:45

Girls Tennis = Franklin, 3 @ Taunton, 2 – Final 

– Franklin took two from singles and one more from doubles in a match that featured five great battles. Senior Brooke Taylor prevailed in a tiebreak to win the second singles match in straight sets (6-0, 7-6 (2)) while sophomore Isabelle Simino emerged from a three-set thriller with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 win at third singles. Franklin added a first doubles win from juniors Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen (6-3, 7-5). Taunton sophomore Sarah Riveiro earned a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win at first singles while the all-senior tandem of Caroline Pietnik and Sam Parrett battled their way to a 7-5, 7-5 win at second doubles.

FHS girls and boys lacrosse teams post wins on Monday

Baseball = Foxboro, 1 @ Franklin, 0 – Final 

– Foxboro scored the lone run of the game in the second inning and that was enough for juniors Nolan Gordon and Ryan O’Leary, who combined for a shutout with just three hits allowed. Gordon helped his own cause in the second with a one-out single and advanced to second (stolen base) and to third (passed ball) before scampering home on a wild pitch. Gordon was impressive on the mound for the Warriors, scattering three hits (all singles) with two walks, striking out five for the win. O’Leary tossed the final two innings with no hits allowed and three strikeouts. Franklin had the tying run on second in the seventh inning after Dom Caccavelli (one-out walk) stole second but O’Leary induced a grounder to third baseman Tom Watts (two hits) for the final out. Franklin’s Austin Campbell was also strong on the mound with one unearned run allowed on six hits and two walks, striking out six in as many innings. Matt Miller (two strikeouts) tossed a scoreless seventh for the Panthers.

Softball = Foxboro, 5 @ Franklin, 3 – Final (8 inn.) 

– Franklin rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep the game going but Foxboro answered right back with two of their own in the top of the eighth for a key extra innings win on the road. Franklin had the lone run of the game through the first five innings when courtesy runner Sophie Arena, who was on third after a leadoff triple from Marley Allen, came home on a dropped third strike. Foxboro orchestrated a two-out rally in the sixth, pushing three runs across to take the lead. Natalia Leach (walk) scored on a two-out single from Vittoria Cuscia to tie the game, and back-to-back singles from Ava Hill and Mia Flanagan loaded the bases for the Warriors. A single to right from Jill Slattery brought two home to put Foxboro ahead 3-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Ella Weston had a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on a bunt single from Katie Dowley, and scored after an infield error. Dowley came home on a ground out to tie the game. Franklin had the winning run at third but Cuscia induced a pair of infield fly balls to force extras. In the top of the eighth, back-to-back doubles from Meghan Kelley and Cuscia scored one run, and a double from Flanagan brought another run home. Cuscia (eight strikeouts) retired the side in order in the bottom half to close it out. Sophia Sacramone had nine strikeouts for the Panthers.

Boys Lacrosse = Canton, 5 @ Franklin, 12 – Final – Franklin built a four-goal lead at halftime and limited visiting Canton to just one tally in the second half to earn a win at home. The Panthers took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first and had an 8-4 advantage at halftime. Franklin blanked the Bulldogs in the third to extend the lead to 11-4 going into the final frame. Eddie O’Brien had three goals and three assists to pace the Panthers’ offense while Drew Hansen added a pair of goals and three helpers, and Ryan Grasso had a hat trick and one assist. Brendan Tourgee and Cullen O’Brien each scored twice for Canton while Dillon Albert added one goal. Pat Drury was strong in net with 17 saves for the Bulldogs.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 15 @ Canton, 5 – Final 

– A six-goal first quarter helped Franklin build a big lead that it never relinquished on the road at Canton. Emily Carney was dominant on the draws once again, registering 11 controls while getting the offense going with five goals and one assist. Katie Ryan added a hat trick of goals and assists, Sophia Sacchetti also netted a hat trick with one assist, and Julia Flynn scored twice with a pair of assists. Norah MacCallum was strong defensively with two caused turnovers.

FHS girls tennis, boys lacrosse, and baseball teams post wins on Tuesday

Baseball = King Philip, 3 @ Franklin, 5 – Final 

– Despite falling behind a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, Franklin plated five straight between the first three innings to bounce back with a key win over rival King Philip. Travis Crawford doubled in Max Robison (single) and then scored on a single from Aiden Astorino to give KP an early 2-0 lead. The Panthers pounced for a pair of their own in the bottom half on an RBI double from Rex Cinelli that scored Henry Digiorgio (HBP) and a sac fly from Matt Miller to score Matt Lucini (walk). Franklin took advantage of a pair of errors in the second to take the lead on a two-run single from Digiorgio up the middle to make it 4-2 and then added a fifth run in the third when Cinelli (single) beat a throw home on a grounder from Cole Sidwell. KP pulled one back in the fifth on a two-out single from Tommy Gately to score Drew Herlin (double). Jake Shaughnessy got the win on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in four innings and Miller earned the three-inning save with a trio of strikeouts. Nate Pennini allowed five runs but only two earned on four hits and a pair of walks for KP while Ryan Higgins tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

Softball = Franklin, 0 @ King Philip, 13 – Final (5 inn.) 

– King Philip sophomore McCoy Walsh didn’t allow a hit in five innings and the Warriors’ offense got off to another strong start in a win over visiting Franklin. KP batted around in the bottom of the first inning, pushing across six runs highlighted by a two-out two-run double from Jo Bennett and an RBI single from Allie Cecere. KP added a single run in the second and then three more in each of the third and fourth innings. Maddie Paschke had three hits to lead the offense with a pair of doubles while Liv Petrillo (three RBI), Bennett (three RBI), and Cecere (two RBI) each had two hits. Walsh scattered five walks over five innings but didn’t allow a hit while striking out nine for the win.

Boys Lacrosse = Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 15 – Final

Boys Tennis = Franklin, 2 @ King Philip, 3 – Final 

– The Warriors captured two wins in singles action and one more in doubles play to secure a key win over visiting rival Franklin. King Philip junior Arjun Kollu earned a 6-3, 6-0 second singles win and senior Leo Manning grinded out a 6-4, 6-1 third singles victory. At second doubles, the team of sophomores Brent Schneider and Logan Riley took a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 win to help clinch the team victory. Franklin senior Jay Gorgas earned his second win in as many days with a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles and the team of Andrew Amante and Adarsh Presanna grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 win at first doubles for the Panthers.

Girls Tennis = King Philip, 1 @ Franklin, 4 – Final 

– A singles sweep plus one more win from doubles action propelled the Panthers to a win over King Philip on Tuesday afternoon. Gabby Cura (first singles, 6-2, 6-1), Chloe Essam (second singles, 6-2, 6-2), and Brooke Taylor (third singles, 7-6, 3-6, 10-4) took care of business in singles action for Franklin while the team of Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first doubles. King Philip’s Tessa Sarkar and Alex Pauline rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at second doubles.

FHS girls & boys tennis teams, girls lacrosse, and softball team all open Spring season with a win

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, Apr 1, 2024.

Baseball = Oliver Ames, 5 @ Franklin, 3 – Final 

– Oliver Ames only collected three hits but took advantage of its opportunities to upset Franklin and snap the Panthers’ 27-game league unbeaten streak in the season opener. Courtesy runner Ben Newton (Drew Hall walk) came home to score on a wild pitch for the first run, David Rodgers knocked in Ian Kelly (walk) with a single to left and then eventually scored on another wild pitch to give OA a 3-0 lead in the top of the. second. The Panthers pulled one back in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from junior Matt Luccini to score Henry Digiorgio (double) but the Tigers pushed back with a pair in the top of the fifth. Harrison Fitzpatrick (single), Andrew Livingstone (walk), and Lucas Riley (walk) loaded the bases and a walk to Hall brought a run in. Rodgers delivered again, this time with a two-out infield single to make it 5-1. Franklin got two back in the sixth with RBI singles from Matt Miller and Cole Sidwell, and then put the tying run on base in the seventh but Andrew Whiteside (2IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 3K) got a strikeout to end the game. Riley got the win on the mound, allowing three runs on two hits and seven walks, striking out seven in five innings.

Softball = Franklin, 12 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final 

– Single runs in each of the first and third innings gave the Panthers an early lead before the offensive got going with 10 runs over the final four innings to pull away for good. Junior Sarah Boozang gave Franklin a boost with a solo home run in the third inning that made it 2-0 and finished the day 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored while junior Marley Allen drove in a team-high three runs in the win. Sophomore Sophia Sacramone went 4-for-5 on the day with a pair of RBI and also had a strong day in the circle, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks, striking out six in five innings of work for the win. Crystaliah Covel and Paige Taylor both recorded two hits and one RBI each for OA.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 19 @ Attleboro, 4 – Final 

– Franklin scored five goals in each of the first two quarters to stake a 10-2 lead by half and never looked back to take down Attleboro on the road to start the 2024 season. Emily Carney helped set the tone with a dominant performance on the draw, winning nine controls and adding five goals to lead the charge. Katie Ryan tacked on four goals and two assists, Gabi Consigli scored twice with four helpers, Sophia Sacchetti had a hat trick with one assist, and Liza Kudish scored a pair of goals and chipped in two helpers. Noah MacCallum and Keira Kucich anchored a strong defensive performance for the Panthers in front of Maise Streesman (six saves). Isabella Cavallini and Amelia Collins both had two points with a goal and an assist for Attleboro while Molly Moore and Addison Papagolos each added one goal.

– Taking two wins from both singles and doubles action, Franklin defended home court in its season-opener against visiting Oliver Ames. In singles action, Franklin senior Brooke Taylor notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory at second singles while sophomore Isabelle Simino landed a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. The Panthers posted a pair of wins in doubles with the all-junior first doubles team of Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen taking a 6-2, 6-1 verdict and the team of senior Ava Davies and sophomore Avalon Thomes adding a 6-1, 6-3 win at second doubles. OA junior Hannah Farber started her campaign off with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles.

FHS baseball and girls lacrosse teams both post wins on Wednesday to advance in playoffs

Baseball = Division 1 = #17 Walpole, 2 @ #1 Franklin, 5 – Final 

– A four-run fifth inning helped Franklin land a comeback win over an upset-minded Walpole team. The visitors built a two-run lead by scoring once in each the second and third innings, and kept Franklin in check for the first four innings. Eisig Chin reached on an error in the fourth inning to score Ryan Gerety (single), and Henry Digiorgio did the same to bring Jase Lyons (fielder’s choice) home to make it 2-2. An RBI single from Ben Jarosz brought Chin home for the go-ahead run and Luke Sidwell’s squeeze bunt plated Digiorgio to make it 4-2. Chin added a sac fly in the sixth to score Rex Cinelli (single) to add an insurance run for Franklin. Austin Campbell impressed in six innings of work, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk, striking out six for the win. Dillon Cashin needed just 10 pitches to retire the side in order in the seventh to get the save. #1 Franklin will host #9 Bridgewater-Raynham on Saturday at 6:00.

Softball = Division 1 = #19 Franklin, 0 @ #3 Taunton, 3 – Final 

– A three-run fourth inning proved to be plenty of offense for Taunton junior Sam Lincoln, who tossed a complete game shutout to lift the Tigers over league rival Franklin in a playoff showdown. Kaysie Demoura led off the fourth with a single and came home to score after a bunt from Hayley Krockta and an infield error. Brooke Aldrich, who was hit by a pitch, and Morgan Fitzgerald (fielder’s choice) also scored in the inning after a Franklin error. Bella Bourque and Ava Venturelli each had a pair of hits for the Tigers; Lincoln scattered three hits and didn’t issue a walk while striking out 12 batters for the win. Kiera Kotwicki, Katy Liberman, and Dana Stott each had a hit for Franklin. Kotwicki was strong in the circle, allowing two runs (one earned) one five hits and no walks; freshman Sophia Sacramone gave up just one unearned run on one hit and one walk, striking out one in three innings. #3 Taunton will host #11 Woburn on Friday night at 7:00.

Baseball = Division 1 = #32 Lexington, 1 @ #1 Franklin, 5 – Final

– Franklin jumped out to an early lead and Alfred Mucciarone took care of the rest as the Panthers started their postseason run with a win over Lexington. The Panthers plated a pair in the bottom of the first inning and tacked on three more in the second inning. Mucciarone allowed just one unearned run on five hits and two walks, striking out in a complete game effort for the win. A two-out walk from Eisig Chin sparked the hosts in the first inning; Chin stole second and came home to score after a single from junior Henry Digiorgio, who made it all the way to third after an error. Ben Jarosz followed with a base hit of his own to bring Digiorgio home for an early 2-0 lead. After Mucciarone retired the side in order in the top of the second, Franklin cashed in with two outs once again in the bototm half. Rex Cinelli singled and Ryan Gerety singled, and after a wild pitch and a stolen base helped moved the runners along, Jase Lyons delivered a clutch hit with a two-run single. Chin was hit by a pitch, Digiorgio singled to load the bases, and Jarosz brought another run in with a walk. Top-seeded Franklin will host #17 Walpole on Wednesday at 7:00.

Softball = Division 1 = #19 Franklin, 12 @ #14 Westford Academy, 2 – Final

– A six-run second inning set the tone as Franklin upset Westford Academy in convincing fashion with a 12-2 win. The Panthers had five of their 17 hits in the second inning, resulting in an early 6-0 lead over the Grey Ghosts. Reece Allen (double) and Katy Liberman (error) both came to score on a one-out double from Dana Stott, who came home to score on an RBI from Avery Chalk. Sarah Boozang delivered a big two-out single to bring another run home and Carly Johnson-Pellegri followed with a two-run home run to center to stake a 6-0 lead. Westford Academy got on the board with a run in the bottom half, and tacked on another in the third, but Franklin scored once in the fourth, pulled away with four runs in the fifth, and tacked on another insurance run in the fifth. Boozang finished 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run, Kiera Kotwicki (two runs) and Chalk (four RBI, run) each chipped in with three hits, and Allen (two doubles) and Stott (two RBI, two runs) each had two hits. Kotwicki allowed two runs (one earned) in the start, scattering six hits and one walk, striking out three in three innings. Sophia Sacramone closed the door with four scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits and no walks while fanning five batters. #19 Franklin takes on a familiar foe in the next round as the Panthers will travel to #3 Taunton on Wednesday at 7:00.

– Franklin came out flying in its playoff opening, finding the back of the net 13 times in the first quarter on its way to a convincing win over Methuen. Tyler Sacchetti had three goals and three assists in the Panthers’ big first period while Luke Davis scored a hat trick. Jayden Consigli (one assist) and junior Dylan McEvoy (three assists) each chipped in with a pair of goals for Franklin. #4 Franklin will host the winner of #13 Needham and #20 Natick, who are playing on Tuesday at 6:00.

Softball = Mansfield, 5 @ Franklin, 10 – Final 

– Playing in its third game in four games, Franklin plated the first eight runs of the game and never looked back to land a win over Mansfield. After a scoreless first inning, the Panthers scored in five straight innings, including a big four-run fifth inning. Senior Katy Liberman led the charge offensively with a team0high three hits while Kiera Kotwicki, Avery Chalk, Carly Pellegri, and Hailey Fales each had two hits. Freshman Sophia Sacramone earned the win, scattering six hits for five runs (two earned) on two walks and 11 strikeouts. Callie Lake had another strong game for the Hornets, going 3-for-4, with Liv Madeira, Molly Kucharski, Dani Jameson, and Amanda Schwarz each had one hit.
