FHS softball tops Needham 8-3 on Friday

Via HockomockSports.com and Twitter, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Friday: 

Softball = Franklin, 8 vs. Needham, 3 – Final 
– Needham pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game but Franklin answered with five runs in the bottom half to pull away for the win at home. Reece Allen led off with a single, Georgia Harvey walked, and Katy Liberman reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases for the Panthers. Hailey Fales drove in one run with a single, and Carly Johnson-Pellegri followed with a two-run base hit to make it 6-3. The Panthers pushed another run across on an error and Kiera Kotwicki plated another run with a sac fly. Aislinn Lavery got the win in the circle, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks, striking out six in a complete game effort.

FHS baseball, softball, and both boys & girls tennis teams post wins on Thursday

Via HockomockSports.com and Twitter, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Thursday: 

Baseball = Milford, 1 @ Franklin, 11 – Final (6 Inn.) 
– Franklin pushed across four runs in the bottom of the third to increase its lead to 5-0, and then ended the game with a six-run fifth inning to knock off Milford. Jase Lyons continued to rake at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored to pace the Panthers’ offense. Chris Goode added two hits and two RBI, Eisig Chin also drove in two runs, and Henry DiGiorgio had a pair of hits and three runs scored. Junior Alfred Mucciarone had a strong outing on the bump, allowing one run on six hits and no walks, striking out five in five innings.

Softball = Franklin, 18 @ Milford, 8 – Final 
– Franklin’s bats exploded for 18 runs on 18 hits, scoring in five straight innings between the second and sixth inning during a victory over Milford. Sophomore Carly Johnson-Pellegri had a huge day at the dish, going 4-for-5 while driving in eight runs to pace the Panthers’ offense, scoring three times herself. Kiera Kotwicki added three hits, three runs, and RBI in the win while Aislinn Lavery (two RBI), Georgia Harvey, Katy Liberman and Hailey Fales each added two hits in the win. Milford’s Cae Pellegrini had two hits, including her second home run in as many days, and sophomore Grace Bonina chipped in with two hits and two RBI in the win.

Boys tennis = Franklin, 5 @ Milford, 0 – Final 
– Franklin won all five matches in straights to stay undefeated on the season, moving to 7-0. Senior Drew Mahoney earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles, sophomore Ahan Shetty secured a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles, and junior Ryan Essam prevailed from third singles with a 6-4, 6-4 verdict. The team of seniors Tim O’Keefe and Aidan Karlowicz earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at first doubles, and the team of freshman Dan Reis and junior Tyler Fitzpatrick were victorious, 6-1, 6-0, at second doubles.

Girls Tennis = Milford, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final 
– Taking all five matches in straight sets, Franklin defended home court against visiting Milford. Izzy Trull took a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles, Vedika Vinayak earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles, and Sarah Schiavo completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at third singles. The team of Allison Bagley and Amulya Jayam earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at at first doubles while the tandem of Ashmita Boopathy and Brooke Daniels emerged with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at second doubles.

Both FHS girls and boys lacrosse teams post wins on Tuesday

Via HockomockSports.com and Twitter, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Tuesday: 

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 13 vs. Norwell, 12 – Final 
– Franklin grabbed the lead in the second half and then held off a late surge to hand Norwell its first loss of the season. Knotted at 7-7 at halftime, the Panthers won the third quarter 5-2 to take a three-goal lead into the final quarter. Junior Luke Davis scored all five of the third quarter goals and finished with a team-high six goals along with one assist to lead the offensive charge. Jayden Consigli added a hat trick and one helper while Tyler Sacchetti had two goals and three assists. Junior Ben Harvey and sophomore Drew Hansen each scored once in the first half while sophomore Eddie O’Brien and junior Ravin Chaudhury had third quarter assists.

FHS baseball posts win vs. Mansfield on Friday

Via HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Friday: 

Baseball = Franklin, 3 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final 
– Franklin pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning without recording a hit and senior James Kuczmiec shut the door in the bottom half of the inning as the Panthers escaped with a win on the road. Mansfield plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, with an RBI single from Anthony Sacchetti (to score Conner Zukowski, who had three hits on the day) and an RBI single from Connor Curtis (to score Sacchetti) to take a 2-1 lead into the final inning. In the top of the seventh, Eisig Chin drew a leadoff walk and took third after Ryan Gerety reached on an error. Jack Marino hit a ground ball and Chin was able to beat the throw home to tie the game, and Gerety took off for third. Chris Goode then drove in the winning run with a ground out to make it 3-2. Mansfield got the tying run to second in the bottom half before Kuczmiec (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 K) induced a fly ball in foul territory for the third out. Franklin scored its first run in the top of the third on a passed ball and error. Alfred Mucciarone allowed two runs on seven hits (no walks), striking out six in 5.2 innings of work for Franklin. Mansfield’s Aaron Blinn allowed the one run (unearned) on four hits (no walks), striking out six in 5 innings.

Softball = Mansfield, 11 @ Franklin, 3 – Final 
– The Hornets scored five runs in the top of the first and never looked back, compiling 11 hits as a team and winning for the second time in three days. Cat Kipp and Callie Lake started the game with singles and both came in to score on a base hit from Liv Madeira. With the bases loaded, Molly Kucharski brought in a run with a deep sac fly and Julia Kelly wrapped up the inning with a two-run single. Kelly tripled in the fourth and scored Mansfield’s sixth run on an Olivia DeTrolio single. After Franklin got its first run in the bottom of the fourth, the Hornets answered back with five runs in the fifth to put the game away. Madeira and Casey Moussette singled and Alanna Conley walked to load the bases. Jill Koppy plated a pair with a hit, Kucharski brought in two more with a hit, and Kelly drove in her third run of the day with a sac fly. The Panthers got two runs back in the seventh.

FHS baseball tops Catholic Memorial 4-2 on Wednesday

Via HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Wednesday:  

Softball = Franklin, 3 @ Walpole, 6 – Final

Baseball = Franklin, 4 vs. Catholic Memorial, 2 – Final 
– Franklin scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to break open a tie game and tacked on a key insurance run an inning later to take down Catholic Memorial, snapping a three-game skid. Tied 1-1, Joe Tirrell drilled a solo home run to left on the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Panthers back in front. Jack Marino followed with a one-out single, took third on an error, and scored on a single from Evan Raider to put the Panthers ahead 3-1. CM struck with two outs in the next inning to get back within a run but Tirrell reached on a dropped third strike, courtesy runner Luke Sidwell stole second and took third on a passed ball, and scored when Ryan Gerety reach on an error to make it 4-2. Jacob Jette tossed a complete game for the win, allowing two runs (none earned) on five hits and no walks, striking out six.

FHS boys tennis team post win vs. North Attleboro on Wednesday

Via HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Wednesday:  
 
Baseball = Franklin, 4 @ North Attleboro, 7 – Final 
– North Attleboro senior Brody Rosenberg blasted a second inning grand slam and classmate Tyler Bannon had a strong showing on the mound as the Rocketeers knocked off visiting Franklin. Danny Curran had a lead off single, Bannon followed with a single, and Christian Bates walked to load the bases for Rosenberg’s home run. North added three more in the bottom of the fifth as Dillon Harding and Derek Maceda singled, and pinch runner Kyle Conroy scored on an RBI double from Tyler DeMattio. Maceda came home to score on a wild pitch and DeMattio eventually scored on a double steal to make it 7-0. Franklin plated four runs in the top, including a pair of two-out singles. Bannon finished with 6.1 innings pitched, striking out six with two hits allowed, retiring the side in order in the first three innings. Chris Goode had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers, Evan Raider added a hit, a walk, and an RBI, and Jack Marino chipped in with an RBI and a run scored.

softball = North Attleboro, 10 @ Franklin, 0 – Final 
– North’s bats came alive to back up a stellar performance in the circle from Zoey McDonough. The Rocketeers totaled 16 hits including four from Kelly Colleran, who blasted a pair of homers and drove in seven of North’s 10 runs. McDonough was lights out, striking out 14 and holding Franklin to five hits. Ally Levine had three hits for North, which also got two hits apiece from Mandi Hanewich (two runs scored), McDonough, and Emma Hanwell. Maryellen Charette had a hit and an RBI and Grace Simmons made a nice catch in right and assisted on an out at second.

Boys Tennis = North Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final 
– After splitting the first two sets, Franklin senior Thomas Broyles won a 10-point tiebreaker to complete the sweep for the Panthers. Broyles ended with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 win at second singles, Vashnav Malhotra added a 6-0, 6-1 first singles victory, and senior Drew Mahoney won 6-1, 6-3 at third singles. The team of senior Tim O’Keefe and sophomore Jay Gorgas notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at first doubles, and senior Sameen Shaik and sophomore Ahan Shetty won 6-0, 6-1 at second doubles.

Both FHS girls and boys lacrosse and tennis teams post wins on Monday

Via HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Monday:  

Softball = Taunton, 5 @ Franklin, 4 – Final (8 Inn.) 
– Taunton rallied with a run in the top of the seventh on a solo homer by Angie Lynch to force extra innings and then, after scoring three runs in the eighth, held off a Panthers rally in the bottom half to pull out the extra-innings win. Taunton and Franklin each scored a run in the first, but the Panthers grabbed the lead in the sixth before Lynch tied the game in the seventh.

Franklin’s first run came off an RBI single from junior Avery Chalk. Chalk then put Franklin ahead, 2-1, after a fielder’s choice saw Katy Liberman score. Brooke Aldrich went 3-for-4 with two RBI and gave the visitors the lead with a home run in the first, and Kaysie DeMoura (triple) also drove in two for the Tigers. Reece Allen had two hits for the Panthers, while Hailey Fales was 3-for-4 and drive in a pair. Aislinn Lavery went the distance for Franklin, giving up nine hits and four earned runs. 

Liv Mendonca went six innings for Taunton and allowed seven hits and two runs. Cate Larson picked up the win for the Tigers, pitching two innings of relief, striking out three, and allowing a pair of runs.

Boys Lacrosse = North Attleboro, 8 @ Franklin, 24 – Final 
– Luke Davis scored seven times and Jayden Consigli had six goals, as Franklin scored more than 20 goals for the third straight game to start the season. It was a close game through the first quarter. Davis and Consigli each had hat tricks in the opening 12 minutes, but Matt Antonetti, Connor Ruppert, and Brady Backner each scored for North to go into the first break at 6-3. 

Franklin broke the game open in the second with four goals in just 1:27. Tyler Sacchetti had the first two, just 16 seconds apart, Consigli fed Connor Sullivan for a rip, and then Davis whipped a lefty shot under the bar to make it 10-6. Consigli fired in a man-up goal and Chris Drake took a hit to find the back of the net and extend the lead to nine. Antonetti made a nice steal on a clearance and scored in the last minute of the half, but Franklin led 12-4. 

Clayton Billingkoff started the third with a goal for North, but Franklin scored the next nine to put the game away. Davis added three more, and Sacchetti and Consigli each had a pair. Ryan Grasso and Ravin Chaudhury also scored and CJ Perro got his first of the night. Billingkoff got a second to make it 21-6 after three. Antonetti completed his hat trick in the third. Perro would add two more and finished with a hat trick as well. After a tough first quarter, Justin Alexander ended up winning 21-of-28 draws and Matt Corvi made seven saves for the Panthers. JT Gallagher had six saves for North.


Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 20 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final 
– Franklin hit the 20-goal mark for the third straight game to open the season, this time rolling to a win over the Rocketeers on the road. The Panthers dominated on draw controls, winning 21-of-23 attempts, led by four from Katie Peterson, and three apiece from Peyton Crandall, Kate O’Rourke, and Kaitlyn Carney. Stella Regan paced the Franklin offense — which featured 10 goal scorers — with four goals and an assist. Brigid Earley made seven saves in net for the win.

Boys Tennis = Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final 
– Franklin earned a clean sweep, taking all five matches in straight sets in a win over visiting Taunton. Seniors Vayshnav Malhotra (6-0, 6-1), Thomas Broyles (6-1, 6-1), and Drew Mahoney (6-0, 6-0) all had strong showings sweep singles action. Senior Tim O’Keefe and sophomore Jay Gorgas battled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at first doubles, and the Panthers’ second doubles team of senior Aidan Karlowicz and sophomore Ahan Shetty didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at second doubles.

Girls Tennis = Franklin, 4 @ Taunton, 1 – Final 
– A pair of singles wins and a pair of doubles wins was enough to lead Franklin to a victory on the road. Freshman Izzy Trull earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at first singles for the Panthers while senior Sarah Schiavo continued her strong start to the season with a 6-4, 6-2 third singles win. Senior Amulya Jayam and junior Shriya Rasish bagged a 6-3, 6-1 win at first doubles, and sophomore Chloe Essam and junior Allison Bagley emerged from double seconds action with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Baseball = Franklin, 5 @ Taunton, 7 – Final

"In a back-and-forth seesaw battle between two of the top teams in the Hockomock League, the Taunton baseball team emerged with a quality win over visiting Franklin.

Franklin built a pair of leads but Taunton erased both of them, using a three-run fifth inning to take the lead for good in a 7-5 win.

The Panthers seized a 2-0 edge in the top of the second inning only for the Tigers to answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Franklin’s offense struck for two runs in the third to tie it and took the lead once again with a single run in the fourth, but Taunton rallied for a second time by plating three runs in the fifth."
