“This is a step in the right direction for our unified sports programming"
A real nice and long article on the development of unified sports in the Hockomock League is well worth the time to read it. Josh Perry, the Managing Editor of HockomockSports.com, writes:

"On May 17, more than 200 student-athletes gathered from nine of the 12 Hockomock League schools to celebrate inclusion, friendship, and the importance of giving the entire student body the opportunity to participate in athletics.
The inaugural Hockomock League Unified Track and Field Meet was a showcase of the growth of unified sports programs across the league and the emphasis that Hockomock schools have placed on opening sports up to the entire school population.
That Thursday started ominously with clouds and showers leftover from the day before, but as the afternoon crept closer the temperatures went up and the sun even peeked out a few times. Not that the weather really mattered because nothing was going to diminish the enthusiasm of the athletes and the partners participating in the meet or the coaches, classmates, administrators, friends, and family members that crowded around the track to show their support.
“For the athletes and the partners, it’s one thing to say you’re going to compete against another team but when you get to say this is a Hockomock thing it raises the bar and adds just that much more relevance to the event and the program,” said Franklin athletic director Tom Angelo, who started a unified sports program at Somerset-Berkeley and Plymouth North before he arrived at Franklin."

Franklin Garden Club Donates May Baskets to Nursing Home
Franklin Garden Club members created 40 silk flower May baskets for residents of the Franklin Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Janice Cederquist, Co-President of the Franklin Garden Club, presented one of the arrangements to Maria Dascenzo, a resident at the nursing home.
“The Garden Club, founded in 1987, offers members a wonderful opportunity to learn new information and tips from experts and fellow members related to many different aspects of gardening. Other Club activities include planting and maintenance of the Franklin Town Common gardens, sponsorship of an annual scholarship awarded to a high school graduate, and distribution of pine tree seedlings in the elementary schools,” noted Janice Cederquist and Mary Anne Dean, co-presidents. “We welcome anyone who is interested to attend the first meeting to learn more about the Club and planned activities.”
The Franklin Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. http://gcfm.org/franklingc/Home.aspx

Town Office Closed on Memorial Day; trash/recycling scheduled delayed one day
Memorial Day is celebrated on Monday, May 28. Town offices (and the Library) will be closed. This is one of the Monday holidays that delays the trash and recycling schedule.
With no pickup on Monday, those scheduled for Monday will be picked up Tuesday. Those on Tuesday will be picked up on Wednesday, and so forth. Just imagine DPW Director leaving the voice message about the delayed schedule. I can write it but he reads it so much better!
Additional info on the trash and recycling schedule can be found on the Town of Franklin webpage http://www.franklinma.gov/recycling-solid-waste
