"Students from Jefferson Elementary School were recognized by local legislators for their work in organizing and conducting a pajama and sock clothing drive for foster children. 

State Rep. Jeffrey Roy, D-Franklin, and state Sen. Richard Ross, R-Wrentham, were at the school Friday to present the children - members of the student council - with citations honoring their work. 

Assistant Principal Sarah Klim said the council had come up with the idea, wrote a proposal for it, decorated a collection box and designed fliers advertising the drive."

Jefferson Elementary School

"Franklin Public Schools will offer four one-week summer sessions of Ready Set Kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary School, 628 Washington St. 

Ready Set Kindergarten is a course for incoming Franklin Public Schools kindergarten students that enables children to become familiar with a kindergarten classroom setting and daily routines. All activities will be theme-based using books, dramatic play, music, manipulatives, outside games and arts and crafts. This course is taught by a staff of certified teachers and educational assistants. 

There are four one-week sessions, from July 11 to Aug. 4, with different themes each week."

Franklin High School: Class of 2015 - Scholarships and Awards

Over 100 organizations or businesses provided 146 scholarships to the Franklin High School's Class of 2015. The total value of the scholarships calculates to about $100,000 (as you review the list not all the amounts are provided). The total excludes the Dean College Scholarship which alone ls worth $120,000 (4 years at $30,000/year).

Tri-County Reg Voc Technical High Sschool Valedictorian Receives $80,000 Scholarship To WPI

Tri-County RVTHS senior Laura Auerbach, of Franklin, has been awarded the $80,000 Worcester Polytechnic Institute FRC New England District Championship Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded annually to one high school senior who is an active participant on a First Robotics team competing in one of the New England District Tournaments. An adult leader on each team can nominate one student for the scholarship. Auerbach will receive $20,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Laura, a student in Tri-County’s Engineering Technology Program, achieved a weighted GPA of 4.54 and is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2015. With an academic schedule that included Advanced Placement Calculus, Language and Composition, and Physics, Auerbach still found the time to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. During her four years at Tri-County, Laura participated in Junior Varsity Basketball, Varsity Track, Math Team, First Robotics, NASA’s HUNCH Program, SkillsUSA and National Honor Society.

In addition to an already lengthy roster of extracurricular activities, Laura took on a number of leadership roles. She was captain of the Varsity Soccer team for two years and was one of two students selected to represent Tri-County as part of the Congressional Youth Cabinet for the 4th Congressional District formed by U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III in 2013.

In December, Laura was selected as the 2015 recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS) Certificate of Academic Excellence. The certificate is awarded each year to a student of excellent academic standing who has made significant contributions to the Tri-County community.

Laura plans to major in Mechanical Engineering in college and later pursue a Master’s Degree in Biochemical Engineering.

Tri-County RVTHS, located at 147 Pond Street in Franklin, is a recipient of the High Schools That Work Gold Achievement Award and serves the communities of Franklin, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleborough, Plainville, Seekonk, Sherborn, Walpole, and Wrentham.

FRTC - Scholarship Award

Once again the Franklin Republican Town Committee has taken the lead in providing opportunity for Franklin students. The FRTC is pleased to announce that they have offered a $500 scholarship for their annual Scholarship contest. The winner of the scholarship will be announced at the FHS Awards Night. The applicants submitted 500 word essays specific to the following quote:

“The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.” Patrick Henry

The quote is attributed to Patrick Henry, one of the most respected patriots in United States history. Mr. Henry is not only one of our most admired founding fathers but was also an influential champion of Republicanism.

The Franklin Art Association is pleased to offer a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating high school senior who lives in Franklin, or attends high school in Franklin, or is a member of the Franklin Art Association, or the child or grandchild of a current member, and intends to continue his or her education in the field of art.

While we watched many of our older teen-age friends go through this program, last year my daughter participated.  She did this all on her own, completed all of the forms and necessary paperwork and managed the entire process.  It was a wonderful foundation to help launch her to the chapter that was headed her way...college.  Oh, and this program is all about the scholarship options.  My daughter made some great friendships with girls that she wouldn't have otherwise met (she was a student at Bishop Feehan)!

Franklin Art Association - Scholarship

The Franklin Art Association will award a $1000 scholarship to a qualifying high school senior residing in Franklin or attending a school in Franklin, or a senior whose parent, grandparent or legal guardian is a current member of the association.  

 

Applicants must submit an application, student portfolio, teacher's letter of recommendation and a transcript of high school grades to Franklin High School, 218 Oak Street, Franklin, MA between 2:00 and 3:30 pm in room G140 on Friday , April 4.

In the News: mock trial, new scholarships

Relevant items for Franklin from the Milford Daily News edition today:

Students from several MetroWest towns are among the 1,500 high schoolers from across the state participating in the 29th annual Mock Trial Program this winter. 

Presented by the Massachusetts Bar Association, the tournament-style competition, which began Jan. 21, puts high school teams in a simulated courtroom to try a pre-selected case, which this year centers on a stunt plane accident. The plaintiff in the case, the child of a pilot killed in a plane crash at an air show, alleges the defendant, the plane manufacturer, failed to design the aircraft up to specifications to save money. The company argues the pilot’s own negligence caused the plane’s wing to be sheared off during a maneuver.

The Franklin High School Class of 1972 and 1973 will donate $1,500 toward the creation of a scholarship in memory of Lexi and Sean Munroe. 

The alumni raised the money from their 40th reunion, held last fall. The School Committee will formally accept the donation next month. 

Assistant Superintendent Sally Winslow, a member of the class, said the one-time scholarship would go to a high school student who attended Davis Thayer Elementary School.

Distinguished Young Women - Nov 30th

Eleven Franklin senior high school girls will be participating in Franklin's Distinguished Young Women on Saturday, November 30th at 7:30 @ TD Mercer Auditorium/Horace Mann.   Here is more information about this incredible program.  My daughter Katie is one of the eleven and it has been a great experience.  All the parents of junior high girls......I'll be reminding you about this next year.....

Franklin's Distinguished Young Women

Each Distinguished Young Women program evaluates participants in the following categories: Scholastics (20% of overall score), Interview (25% of overall score), Talent (25% of overall score), Fitness (15% of overall score), and Self-Expression (15% of overall score).  There are no fees to enter the program.

Founded in 1958 in Mobile, Alabama, Distinguished Young Women is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls. It has provided life-changing experiences for more than 700,000 young women across the country and more than $93 million in cash scholarships at the local, state and national levels. In addition to cash scholarships, Distinguished Young Women participants are eligible for college-granted scholarships from almost 200 colleges and universities. More than $108 million in college scholarship opportunities were provided last year, some of which included full tuition, room, and board to first-class institutions.
