"Each week, a SAFE Licensed Clinical Social Worker answers questions about mental health, substance use recovery, wellness, and more.
👇Check out this week’s Q&A!
Q: How do I explain my recovery to my young children?
Explaining your recovery to your children may feel uncomfortable, but being proactive in addressing this topic can help children process the information and their feelings about it. Have these conversations in a private place, free of interruptions, and keep it simple and honest.
Answer their questions in age-appropriate language and provide reassurance when necessary. If you’re not sure how you want to answer one of their questions, it’s okay to let them know that you don’t have an answer right now but will get back to them. Be SURE to get back to them!
