FHS girls tennis, boys lacrosse, and baseball teams post wins on Tuesday

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, Apr 2, 2024.

Baseball = King Philip, 3 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
– Despite falling behind a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, Franklin plated five straight between the first three innings to bounce back with a key win over rival King Philip. Travis Crawford doubled in Max Robison (single) and then scored on a single from Aiden Astorino to give KP an early 2-0 lead. The Panthers pounced for a pair of their own in the bottom half on an RBI double from Rex Cinelli that scored Henry Digiorgio (HBP) and a sac fly from Matt Miller to score Matt Lucini (walk). Franklin took advantage of a pair of errors in the second to take the lead on a two-run single from Digiorgio up the middle to make it 4-2 and then added a fifth run in the third when Cinelli (single) beat a throw home on a grounder from Cole Sidwell. KP pulled one back in the fifth on a two-out single from Tommy Gately to score Drew Herlin (double). Jake Shaughnessy got the win on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in four innings and Miller earned the three-inning save with a trio of strikeouts. Nate Pennini allowed five runs but only two earned on four hits and a pair of walks for KP while Ryan Higgins tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

Softball = Franklin, 0 @ King Philip, 13 – Final (5 inn.)
– King Philip sophomore McCoy Walsh didn’t allow a hit in five innings and the Warriors’ offense got off to another strong start in a win over visiting Franklin. KP batted around in the bottom of the first inning, pushing across six runs highlighted by a two-out two-run double from Jo Bennett and an RBI single from Allie Cecere. KP added a single run in the second and then three more in each of the third and fourth innings. Maddie Paschke had three hits to lead the offense with a pair of doubles while Liv Petrillo (three RBI), Bennett (three RBI), and Cecere (two RBI) each had two hits. Walsh scattered five walks over five innings but didn’t allow a hit while striking out nine for the win.

Boys Lacrosse = Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 15 – Final

Boys Tennis = Franklin, 2 @ King Philip, 3 – Final
– The Warriors captured two wins in singles action and one more in doubles play to secure a key win over visiting rival Franklin. Rodgers delivered again, this time with a two-out infield single to make it 5-1. FHS boys hockey team ends playoff run with loss to Xaverian

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Thursday, Mar 7, 2024.

Boys Hockey = Division 1
#12 Franklin, 1 @ #4 Xaverian, 5 – Final
– Xaverian scored three times in the opening 10 minutes and never looked back, beating Franklin to secure a spot in the Final Four. Ryan Bello opened the scoring after just 13 seconds. Devin Gosciak doubled the lead after three minutes and Jesse Peck managed to find the top corner from a tight angle to make it 3-0 with 5:43 left in the first. Xaverian nearly added a fourth but Matt Toli cleared off the line in the final couple minutes of the period.

Franklin came out flying in the second and had a series of good chances, including three power plays and notable scoring opportunities for Ben Paterson and Dan Daley, but couldn’t find a way past former goalie Cole Pouliot-Porter. The one shot that slipped past the goalie was kicked away by Mike McGrath just before the puck crossed the line. Xaverian was on the back foot for a lot of the second period, but it was the Hawks that found a goal. A turnover in the defensive zone gave Gosciak the puck on the right wing and he flipped pass across the zone to a one-timer from Colvin Callahan.

The Panthers got on the board five minutes into the third when Carter Balducci punched in a rebound following a scramble in front of the Xaverian goal. The Hawks got it back late in the third on a blast from the point by Nate Patch.

FHS boys hockey tops Weymouth to advance to Elite 8 in playoffs

Josh Perry, Managing Editor of HockomockSports.com, provides the FHS boys hockey win recap:
"In 2014, Franklin made the jump from Div. 2 to Div. 1. The Panthers were a perennial power in D2, but there were questions about whether they would be able to compete with the speed and physicality in D1. That winter, Franklin faced Weymouth in its opening playoff game and earned a comfortable 7-2 win.

Jump forward a decade and the Panthers, now an established D1 contender every year, again welcomed Weymouth to Pirelli Veterans Arena, this time for Saturday night’s Sweet Sixteen matchup, and the result was very nearly the same.

Behind a hat trick from Dylan McEvoy, three points from Ben Paterson, and 27 saves from Colby Wagner, Franklin skated to a 7-3 victory and a spot in the D1 quarterfinal.

Xaverian plays Saint John's in Gm 51: 3/3 3:30pm at: Canton Ice House. The winner of this game will then face Franklin (TBD)

FHS boys basketball top Bridgewater-Raynham to advance in playoffs

Boys Basketball = Division 1
#30 Bridgewater-Raynham, 57 @ #3 Franklin, 78 – Final

Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com, provides the game recap:
"Bridgewater-Raynham delivered its best shot in the second quarter of Friday night’s Division 1 Round of 32 matchup at Franklin — but it still wasn’t enough.
The Trojans had a masterful shooting performance in an eight-minute stretch, going a perfect 6-for-6 from three-point land and shooting 77% from the floor to the tune of 26 points.
Yet, when the halftime buzzer sounded the third-seeded Panthers still held a five-point lead.

Franklin not only kept that lead throughout the entirety of the second half, but the Panthers expanded it all the way to a 78-57 win over #30 Bridgewater-Raynham."

Girls Basketball = Division 1 = #20 Franklin, 43 @ #13 Andover, 45 – Final

Chloe Fales scored eight points and Sasha Tracey and Norah MacCallum each scored five, as the Panthers jumped out to a 20-14 lead after one. Things tightened up in the second, but Olena Malymina scored five in the frame to send Franklin into halftime with a nine-point edge. The teams each scored 10 in the third, as Franklin maintained its advantage, but in the fourth a late three-pointer was all the offense that the Panthers could muster. Ella Vidoni scored seven of her game-high 20 to help Andover rally and pull out the win. Fales scored a team-high 15, MacCallum added nine, and Malymina scored seven. Franklin coach John Leighton praised his team’s effort on the road against a strong opponent.

FHS boys hockey team top Hingham on Sunday

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Sunday, Jan 28, 2024.

Game #14 Results: #15 Franklin (6) Hingham (4)
(Shots — Franklin 26 Hingham 29
Game I: Ed Burns Hockey Tournament

1st period Recap: Shots - Franklin (II) Hingham (IO)
High tempo game off the drop of the puck Lampasona, Paterson & McEvoy pushing pace, followed by Balducci, Wernig & Daley following suit & Hager, Langevin & Quinn flying are creating the tempo But @ 4mln into the game Hingham would strike first A few minutes later Franklin takes a roughing penalty @ 9:54, this one would sting as the boys quickly go down 2-0. Another Franklin penalty comes minutes later @ 7:54 for high sticking However the boys had other plans this time when Marchand makes a big hit along the boards causing a Hingham forward to send the puck deep into Hingham's zone where Paterson wins foot race to puck & snaps a quick shot that deflects to Lampasona in the slot who picks the top right corner for
the shorty bringing Franklin within I. Next shift, w/ seconds left on the PK, Hingham turns over in the neutral zone where Langevin Wins another foot race & takes off into the zone & at the top of the circle rips a snipe top right corner to tie it up. Again, pace of pay is fast & the boys have settled in. Daley & Wernigget a couple quick chances early in the period. @ 11:02 Paterson makes a beauty of an outlet pass from deep in the zone to McEvoy on far blue line who makes a slippery move around the defenseman & then opens up the goalie to slide it 5-hole for the goal putting Franklin up I! @ 7:48 Franklin finds themselves back on the PK but again a great forecheck by Daley & Balducci followed by McEwzn,' & Paterson coupled w/ strong blue line play by Marchand, Arienti, Toli & Harrington they kill off the penalty. Period ends fast With some great back &  forth hockey. O'Connor serves up the donut seeing another IO shots in the period & is making a lot of big saves.

3rd Period Recap: Shots - Franklin (8) Hingham (9)
With 15 miles to go boys are picking up the pace & controlling tempo Balducci sets up Daley for a one timer but Hingham goalie makes an amazing save, same shift Dalev rings the post & the boys keeping the Hingham defense on their heels. And @ 11:02 McEwy wins a battle on the boards hitting Lampasona coming up the ice who dishes to Paterson at the red line where he slides by 2 defenders into the slot & rips one home putting Franklin up 2. But very next shift Hingham would bring it back within w/ 9:30 to play. @ 5:42 Marchand blocks a shot & gets It to McEvcn,' who takes off down the right side thru 2 players at the blue line & backhand saucers it to Paterson in the slot who returns the favor to McEvoy who buries it putting Franklin up by 2. With 4:33 to go in game Langevin draws a Hingham interference penalty & I
minute into the penalty Marchand slides it to Lampasona at the point and sends a missile to the back of the net putting Franklin up by 3. Hingham would get one back, but the game would end Franklin 6 Hingham 4.
