Light Up Franklin on New Year’s Eve held by BSA Troop 126

The fundraising event that took place on Friday, December 31, 2021, sponsored by the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks 2136 in Franklin was celebrated to begin 2022 together. The aim of this event was to raise funds in support of the Franklin Food Pantry and the troop through their luminary sale. 

Luminary kits were sold in sets of 10 that included white bags, votive candles, sand, and instructions. Many of the Franklin residents joined the event and celebrated the holiday season by lining the neighborhood with candle luminaries!

Troop 126 sold 82 luminary kits and donated $250 to Franklin Food Pantry. Thanks to Franklin Historical Museum for allowing the troop to use their parking lot during kits distribution. 

We are truly grateful for the support of this town and all who purchased a luminary kit. We look forward to continuing this event for the next year and hoping to donate more to the Franklin Food Pantry!

National Purple Heart Day Celebrated on August 7th!

Quilts of Valor also Awarded

Franklin celebrated its second Purple Heart Day as a Purple Heart Community on Saturday, August 7 with a ceremony and luncheon hosted by the Elks Lodge on Pond Street. 

The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving in the U.S. military on or after April 5, 1917. The Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members.

Along with recognizing 18 Purple Heart recipients from Franklin, the Quilts of Valor Foundation awarded Quilts of Valor to eight Franklin veterans. The personalized quilts were presented by Theresa Perreault, Quilts of Valor Massachusetts State Coordinator.

The Franklin Elks (1077 Pond Street) will be honoring the American Flag this coming Saturday at 11 AM. We will perform an Elks ritual. All are welcome.

Franklin fire donation information

"The Franklin MA Lions Club and Franklin Elks Lodge #2136 are working with the Red Cross to help families affected by today’s fire. We have been told the best donations right now are that of gift cards to various clothing, drug stores, food and restaurants. Please reach out to Franklin Lions to make your donation.

Update: The Lions met this evening. We have had an outpouring for clothing donations. For this reason we have decided to do a fund-drive to turn clothing and cloth material such as shoes, curtains, stuffed animals, blankets, etc into cash. We hope to collect 5000lbs by July 7th. We currently will pick up but are working on drop off locations for bags.

Update: we have set up an account with Rockland Trust: Franklin Lions Disaster Fund. Donations can be made there. 100% will be used to assist families to get back on their feet. In addition at the downtown Franklin branch across from post office is a drop box for gift cards. Gift cards and checks can also be mailed to

Scouts BSA Troop 126 to collect your bottles/cans Oct 10

On Saturday, October 10, 2020, Scouts BSA Troop 126 will be having a bottle and can drive, to raise money for camping equipment and exciting trips like whitewater rafting. Our troop is in Franklin, which means your contributions will directly benefit the youth of your community.

If you wish to donate bottles or cans, please drop them off at the Elks parking lot, 1077 Pond Street, on October 10, 2020, between 10 A.M. and 12 P.M.

If you are a Town of Franklin resident and are unable to come, but you would still like to contribute, please fill out our Google Form to have your donation collected at your curbside. Please complete the form by Friday at 5 P.M., and please have curbside bottles and cans out by 7 A.M. We thank you in advance for your contribution and your support for local Scouting!

3 Bands will be performing their latest cover tunes; Slewfoot, South Street Six, and Backyard Swagger will each perform 1 hr. and 15 minutes of music.

All of these issues are raising alarm among people concerned about the specter of climate change.

“It’s not too late, but we’re not talking the distant future. We’re talking right now,” said Richard Halpern, chairman of the Franklin Democratic Town Committee’s events subcommittee.

Halpern is the force behind planning for an upcoming discussion on the subject the organization is sponsoring.

“Franklin 2050: The Climate Crisis” is set for 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Elks Lodge, 1077 Pond St."

Franklin 2050: The Climate Crisis - Oct 17

Climate change is real; you can see it happening all around us, not just in America but on a global scale. Improbable weather events are happening in the most unlikely places. Yet it’s hard to get one’s head around it and figure out what the solution is.

The 2019 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report is a call to action to avert the changes. The IPCC and 97% of climate scientists worldwide say the changes that are necessary to avert disaster are stark: 50% reduction in carbon emissions is needed by 2030, and net carbon effect by 2050.

But we have an Administration in denial, and mass media that’s more concerned with the latest tweet than explaining what’s going on in the climate, and what can be done about it by citizens in cities and towns in the Commonwealth.

How will the average citizen learn about what can be done to minimize the effects?

Several of us from Franklin got together along with the Franklin Democratic Town Committee, 350 Massachusetts for a Better Future, and Massachusetts Climate Action Network to plan a community-wide educational forum to examine the causes and effects policy implications, and actions to take at the town and state levels. 

It’s called “Franklin 2050: The Climate Crisis” and it’s happening Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 PM at Franklin Elks 1077 Pond Street in Franklin.
