parking corrections to address the parking in the neighborhood near the Dean housing, to improve public safety and to allow the trash to be picked up

Jill Mercer Bedoya, opposition to parking changes
now marked parking spots, where before these were unknown as available; where parking is now allowed on both sides near the fire station, there is not two way traffic, nor could the fire truck fit

2nd resident from the neighborhood: 2 hour parking is not going to work, Dean students are only just back and there are already problems, explore other areas were residential parking only, no overnight parking; no issues with the kids themselves

Nutting - we don't have resident parking, don't have technology or staff to do so; sufficient parking spaces available; if it posted, then the car needs to be moved, without posting, they can park anytime

Chief Lynch - a lot of this is a compromise, no signs

our concern is really with the overnight parking

This is a start, we had agreed that we'd give Dean 30 days to see what happens after the signs go up. The signs are not up yet, so we need to get there. It is a compromise and may need to be tweaked

motion to approve, seconded, passed 8-1 via roll call  (Casey no)

FHS girls and boys soccer preview from HockomockSports.com

HockomockSports.com has published their Kelly-Rex Division Preview for both girls and boys soccer. The recap for Franklin High School is shared here. The links for the preview of the other teams in the Kelly-Rex Division are below.

FRANKLIN Girls Soccer

2017 Record: 10-8-2
2017 Finish: Reached Div. 1 South first round.
Coach: Tom Geysen

Franklin battled injuries throughout the 2017 season and those injuries tested the Panthers depth, but heading into a new season head coach Tom Geysen is confident that this year’s squad can withstand the rigors of Hockomock play. The Panthers will be tested early, with King Philip, Mansfield, and Canton in the opening four games.

Versatility will be a key for the Panthers this season with players capable of slotting into different positions. One of those players is junior Anna Balkus, who can play up top or drop back into the midfield depending on the formation. Sophomore Sydney St. Marie will also play up top and Geysen said that she has shown real progress from last year. Junior Carly Alston will be in the heart of the midfield, while senior Halle Atkinson will give Franklin an outlet on one wing and sophomore Erin Qualie, fresh off an impressive rookie campaign, will be on the other. Defensively, Franklin will count on third-year center back Grace Gallo, fellow senior Maddie Stewart, and junior Sabrina Addi, who moved from the midfield to defense last fall. Athletic junior Breanna Atwood will jump into goal and continue Franklin’s run of strong goalkeepers.

“We have a good nucleus of kids coming back and kids moving around to new positions,” said Geysen. “There are a lot of freshmen with potential to develop into strong players. Everyone had a good attitude and has been working hard.”

FRANKLIN Boys Soccer

2017 Record: 5-9-4
2017 Finish: Missed playoffs
Coach: Fran Bositis

After going through some growing pains throughout the 2017 season, the Panthers are looking to make it back to the state tournament.

It all starts with the Panthers’ three senior captains, who will be relied upon to help Franklin compete in a very talented Kelley-Rex division.

Nitin Chaudhury, Nick Barry, and Sam Stowell are all veteran players and will be joined by 10 other returners from last year’s team that got better as the season went on. The Panthers must replace talented goalie Freddie Beckmann but head coach Fran Bositis is expecting good things from junior Jack Rudolph because of his excellent athletic ability.

Chaudhury will once again be the engine of the team from the midfield position while Stowell is back for his third year in the heart of the Panthers’ defense. Jacob Cummings will be another weapon for Franklin in the midfield while senior Tim Duval and junior Donny Tappin return up top.

“As always we are looking forward to competing in the very competitive Hockomock League,” Bositis said.

Ronan - FHS field hockey "Player to Watch"

HockomockSports.com has published their Field Hockey Players to Watch listing for the 2018 fall season. Franklin High School Field Hockey has a player on the listing.

CASSI RONAN, SENIOR – FRANKLIN
Ronan was the key to Franklin’s resurgence from a difficult start to the 2017 season to taking second in the Kelley-Rex division and push eventual South (and league champion) King Philip to double overtime in the second round of the state tournament. Ronan, one of the top stickhandlers in the league, showcased her all-around game to get the Panthers back into the playoffs. She scored team highs in goals (20) and assists (10) and consistently created scoring chances for the Franklin attack, while also chipping in with defensive work in the midfield to limit counterattacks from the opposition. Ronan will be counted on again this fall, under a new coaching staff, to once again keep control of games for the Panthers and try to get Franklin back on top of the league.

In the News: Primary results

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"In a political stunner, incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano lost Tuesday’s primary to Ayanna Pressley, a Boston city councilor who is virtually assured of becoming the first black woman to serve Massachusetts in Congress.
Republican Gov. Charlie Baker won his party’s nomination for a second term, defeating Scott Lively, a conservative minister and staunch supporter of President Donald Trump who frequently called Baker — a frequent critic of the president — a RINO, or Republican in Name Only. Baker will face Democrat Jay Gonzalez.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren sailed through the primary unopposed. She’ll face Geoff Diehl, a state representative who served as co-chair of Trump’s 2016 campaign in the state and defeated two other Republicans for his party’s nomination."

"Three Democrats battled it out in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary in the Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex District.
Early returns showed Needham lawyer Becca Rausch had a 2,900-vote lead over challengers Jackie Katz and Kris Alexsov, according to the Rausch campaign late Tuesday night. All precincts reported except for Norfolk and Franklin.
The winner faces incumbent Sen. Richard Ross, R-Wrentham, in November. Ross has held the seat since 2010."
