"Hoping to encourage residents to buy local, the Center for Adult Education and Community Learning will be teaming up with #shopFranklin to host a small business showcase this week. 
The event - scheduled to take place at Franklin High School from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday - is meant to connect those who live in town with businesses that provide needed services. 
Brenda Reed, the director of the center, said the idea for a "trade show" of local businesses came about in the spring. 
"People could come in and see what the businesses do in a setting that's relaxed," she said. 
Sarah Mabardy, founder of the shop-local #shopFranklin group, said the point is to raise awareness about what small businesses in town do."
