Hello music lovers!

What a crazy winter we all just survived -- we hope you made it through unscathed. And while all that snow was falling, some good things were falling into place with The LiveARTS String Quartet!

NEXT CONCERT COMING SOON!

We are excited to announce our next concert in Franklin this season! The concert will take place on

Sunday, May 17 at 3:00

Franklin Historical Museum

80 West Central Street, Franklin

Masterworks by

Franz Joseph Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn,

and Robert Schumann.

For this concert tickets are on sale for a modest admission charge:

• Adults $25
• Seniors 65+ $20
• Students12+ $15
• Under 12 Free

Those of you who attended the concert last November will remember how wildly popular it was -- so much so that many people had to stand. Purchasing tickets in advance for this concert will guarantee you a seat -- but seating is limited. There is a cap of 70 tickets available.

Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door -- but do not wait to purchase tickets at the door, as we anticipate that tickets will sell out before the concert date. That means there may be standing room only on the day of the concert for those who did not purchase tickets in advance -- so you'll want to act now to secure your seats!

MASS CULTURAL COUNCIL GRANT RECEIVED!

We are thrilled and grateful to announce that the LiveARTS String Quartet has been awarded a grant by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. These grants are highly competitive -- as a matter of fact, only 14% of grant applications were approved for funding in the recent grant cycle, and there were thousands of applications. That speaks volumes about how the Commonwealth's leading arts funding organization views the contribution of the LASQ to the artistic life of our community!

Along with the continued generous support of our patrons, this grant enables us to present additional concerts, including the one coming in May, and another one in early fall. More information will be forthcoming about the fall concert.

YOUR SUPPORT IS STILL NEEDED

Even with the MCC grant and a small concert admission price, it still takes more to make concerts of this caliber possible. What an incredible concert experience we had on November 16 at the Franklin Historical Museum! The place was absolutely PACKED. In fact, it was standing room only, with 90 people in attendance and only about 70 chairs!

Historic Happenings at the Franklin Historical Museum for November 2025

Saturday, November 15 – The SATURDAY ‘Second Sunday Speaker Series’-- The Early Days of the Franklin Y

Yes, due to scheduling issues, November’s “Second Sunday event” will be on the ‘third Saturday.’ Everyone in Franklin and vicinity knows the familiar, glistening, and modern YMCA atop Forge Hill. But long-before the 1988 Y came into existence, the Y was a vital part of the Franklin Community that actually got its start in 1901. By 1909, the Franklin  Y was in the midst of a capital campaign and only two years later, in 1911, actually opened its own new building on Emmons St.

Franklin native and acclaimed presenter, Joe Landry, will be delivering a talk and slide show called "The YMCA in Franklin: The Early Years."  Joe will delve into the building (which was easy to get lost in!), the lore, the personalities and the times in which this older style Y -- aimed especially at the needs of young men -- was a vital community resource. 

The program starts at 1:15.  The museum is open from 1-4 and admission is free.

Sunday,  November 16 – Music at the Museum, LiveARTS String Quartet

The LiveARTS String Quartet is back!! Come hear these world-class musicians perform string quartet masterworks by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms at the Franklin Historical Museum. Admission to this single concert is free, with voluntary donations gratefully received at the door.

LiveARTS String Quartet

Donate here and help the LASQ establish a regular concert series in Franklin! The museum is open for extended hours,  from 1-5. The performance will begin at 3 pm and last approximately two hours. Admission is free.

Regular Hours: Saturdays 10-1, Sundays 1-4. AND NOW ALSO most Thursdays 12- 5 (ring the bell) Free

Dear music lover, Hello! I'm Donald Krishnaswami, former longtime board member and performer at LiveARTS, our highly regarded and beloved Franklin-based chamber music series. As you will recall, LiveARTS recently announced its dissolution, after enriching the community with performances of the highest professional caliber for over two decades.  As LiveARTS closes its doors, I am very excited to announce that the LiveARTS String Quartet, familiar to you from its long-time residency at LiveARTS, is making a comeback and embarking on a dynamic new chapter as an independent ensemble!  And I am thrilled to announce that, coming this November, the LiveARTS String Quartet will perform an inaugural concert as a separate entity! The LiveARTS String Quartet in concert Sunday, November 16 at 3:00 PM Franklin Historical Museum 80 West Central Street, Franklin MA The program will include masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms As a special gift to our community for this inaugural concert, admission will be free of charge, with voluntary donations gratefully received at the door.  The LiveARTS String Quartet features Katherine Winterstein and Gregory Vitale, violins, Donald Krishnaswami, viola, and guest cellist Emmanuel Feldman (inset). Pictured with the Quartet is its regular cellist, Jan Mueller-Szeraws. Important -- please read on! This single concert is part of a larger initiative! Currently, there is no top-caliber professional string quartet resident in and dedicated specifically to bringing live classical music to Franklin and the surrounding region. The LASQ aims to fill this void, providing a significant boost to the artistic culture and prestige of the area.
