"Save Kingsbury Pond" petition underway

From the Change.org petition:

"Kingsbury Pond is located in the northwest corner of Norfolk, MA and was once considered a 26 acre Great Pond of Massachusetts. In 1964, the town of Norfolk gave Franklin a piece of land approx 3000 yards from Kingsbury Pond, allowing Franklin to drill a well to supplement their water supply.
Since that day, Kingsbury Pond's water levels have steadily began to drop. Studies performed over the last 40 years show the direct impact Franklin's well has had on Kingsbury Pond.
Local pond residents have been fighting the battle to reduce Franklin's pumping from this well for decades, but Franklin's ever growing population and their need for drinking water has forced most pond residents to give up hope.
Kingsbury Pond, Norfolk
Kingsbury Pond, Norfolk

In 2015, Kingsbury Pond has shrunk to unthinkable levels. What was once a 26 acre pond is now a disgraceful puddle. If this issue is not immediately addressed, there's a chance the aquifer beneath Kingsbury will never be given the chance to recharge and could potentially be gone forever.
We need your help to show the elected officials in the town and the state that this is no longer acceptable. Something needs to change or this once amazing pond will be a distant memory. Whether you live in the Kingsbury Pond area or not, we need your help.
What we are witnessing is a horrible shame. Please sign our petition and show our elected officials that the residents of Norfolk and the surrounding towns care about this once beautiful body of water.
If you're interested, we also invite you to LIKE our Facebook page called Save Kingsbury Pond.
We need your support. Thank you"

Downtown Project Update #19

Given the great weather, the contractor now wishes to continue work for a few more weeks. The plan is as follows, so initially there is minor disturbance with the sidewalk on Main St.

First, Walsh will set light pole foundations. This will involve removing a small section of sidewalk to excavate and set the foundation. There are (6) foundations on the Acapulco's side of roadway and (5) on the opposite side of the roadway.

We will begin on the Acapulco's side of the roadway. Once those 11 are set, Walsh will do the electrical conduit crossings. There is a crossing on Main St at approx. sta 120+75, and a crossing at Dean Ave and Depot St. They will be saw cutting panels on both sides of Main St initially.

sign on the railroad bridge

If weather and time permit, Walsh will begin to excavate sidewalk to install electrical conduit for the street lighting beginning on the side of Acapulcos. This work will be last as it is the most intrusive. Again, time and weather pending, the conduit running underneath the sidewalk may not begin until the spring. We will know more as the next 1-2 weeks pass and I will keep everyone updated.

I feel this is the best way to move forward initially with minor disturbance to the roadway and sidewalk and still enable them to continue getting work done. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The first official documentary on the Boston Marathon is set to be released next fall.
Filmmakers were in Hopkinton in 2014 as the start line was being painted by Jack LeDuc and the elite Kenyan runners visited Elmwood Elementary School for their annual pep rally. Of course, they were at the start to film the first race after the 2013 bombings.
On Thursday, John Hancock Financial announced they will partner with LA Roma Films to be the title sponsor of BOSTON, the first ever feature-length documentary film about the race.

A local charitable group has kicked off its "12 Years of Donating" campaign this week, looking to exceed the more than three tons of food it donated to the Franklin Food Pantry last year.
The campaign, in its 10th year, is manned by a group of local schoolchildren: the Franklin Food Elves. This year marks the highest number of volunteers, officials said, with 115 students volunteering.
