FANN Meeting Agenda - June 28, 2021 |
"Massachusetts is undertaking a massive shift in how it distributes money for affordable housing, pumping tens of millions of state dollars into building new owner-occupied homes after years of focusing almost exclusively on rentals. The efforts, led by a new program to build homes for below-market sale in Boston and other cities, are an explicit recognition of the enormous racial wealth gap in Massachusetts, which has been fueled by a similar chasm in who owns homes here. Yet the program’s limits also illustrate just how hard that gap will be to close. At an event this month in Haverhill to highlight the effort, Governor Charlie Baker pitched his plan as one way to remedy decades of US housing policy that created the divide, and said he wants to spend as much as $560 million to boost homeownership among historically disadvantaged groups in Massachusetts, particularly Black and Latino families. His goal is to jump-start progress with a huge windfall of cash from stimulus funding and other sources."

"Franklin found itself down 4-2 after one quarter in Friday afternoon’s Div. 1 East final at Pisini Stadium against Concord-Carlisle. It was the first time this season that the Panthers had trailed after a quarter, but it didn’t take them long to get back into a more familiar position.
With six of the next seven goals, Franklin turned the game around in the second quarter, grabbing a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. The Panthers limited Concord-Carlisle to just two goals in the second half and held on for a 12-9 victory, avenging semifinal losses to the Patriots in each of the last two seasons and winning the program’s first East title since 2017 (also against Concord-Carlisle).
“Just cause we were down didn’t mean we want to force,” said Franklin coach Kristin Igoe Guarino. “We knew we’d get our looks and I think their patience, their going for the right things, anyone can step up, that’s the whole thing, if anyone can score then you don’t need to force anything because there are always going to be options.”
Franklin senior defender Sydney Hawkins added, “We know every single girl on this team is capable of making that game-winning play and that’s what is going to take us all the way.”Continue reading the game recap by Josh Perry, Managing Editor of HockomockSports.com

"It looked like Franklin and BC High were headed to extra innings when Panther junior Chris Goode flared a high fly ball into foul territory down the right field line with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Instead, the ball eluded the right fielder and dropped harmlessly in foul territory. Goode made the most out of his second chance.
With a runner on third, Goode hit a slow roller to the left side of the infield and raced down the first base line, beating the throw from the shortstop for a walk-off infield single as CJ Jette crossed the plate for the winning run, giving the top-seeded Panthers a 2-1 win over 13th-seeded Eagles.
Franklin will host Xaverian on Monday night in the D1 South Sectional Final."Continue reading the game recap by Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com
FHS baseball: "Goode Night: Panthers Walk Off With Win Over Eagles" |
"In the opening minutes of Friday night’s Div. 1 South semifinal at Pisini Stadium, Franklin looked a little out of sorts. Atypical turnovers, passes going awry, struggling to get into the attack, the Panthers looked a little tentative, like a team that had never gotten past this stage going up against a perennial state power.
Nearly 10 minutes into the first quarter, Franklin broke the deadlock. Two minutes later, the Panthers added a second. In the second quarter, they went on a 6-0 run and suddenly it was two-time defending D1 South champion (and 2017 D2 state champion) Hingham that was on the ropes.
After that slow start, Franklin dominated the Harbormen in every facet, putting together a complete team performance and pulling out a 15-7 victory that head coach Lou Verrochi called one of the biggest in program history. With the win, Franklin advances to its first ever sectional final.
“We took it to them really and I was pleased with that,” Verrochi said. “I mean, who wouldn’t be with that result against a Hingham team that’s traditionally one of the powers in Div. 1? It was a great win for the program and a great win for the kids.”
