"Though the building behind the recreation department’s Beaver Street headquarters is filled with tools, lumber and scissor lifts, it will be home to goals and basketball hoops before long.
The town is hoping to open the building this summer, finishing work on the department’s complex.
Department Director Ryan Jette said the purpose of the space is to add onto the programs his department is able to offer.
“Right now, the recreation department’s main gymnasium use is in the Franklin Public Schools,” he said. “We use their gyms for things like recreational basketball. We have 1,300 kids in recreational basketball - we could never house the program here - but we could augment what we have.”
