Public, Education, Government (PEG) TV: Relic Of The Past?? Think Again. It’s The Key To Our Future

"An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people!"
– Thomas Jefferson

An informed electorate looks beyond the bias of media pundits or gaslighting polemicists who promote THEIR views, THEIR opinions, THEIR agendas.  We are best served when we can assess objective facts and issues with OUR OWN EYES and think for ourselves.  Every vote, every issue, every vital decision impacting life in our community is brought forward for open consideration by the folks at Franklin.TV, Franklin Public Radio (102.9 wfpr.fm) and Franklin Matters; the “Franklin Citizen Media Center”.

At every Town Council, School Committee, Finance Committee, Conservation Committee, Planning Board meeting, Master Plan meeting (etc.) Franklin TV is there. Steve Sherlock, Community Information Director (Volunteer), attends a great many key town meetings, and reports on the votes and discussion items through Franklin Matters and www.Franklin.News.  It’s democracy at its best!

Relic of the past????

Think again!!

If that’s not enough, consider how Franklin TV forges bonds of social connection by bringing us important civic events that define us a community (The Memorial Day parade, FHS and Tri County Graduations, The Harvest Festival, Concerts on the Common, Franklin Pride, Strawberry Stroll, PorchFest, just to name a few.)
Relic???

How about live-streaming of Franklin High School varsity sports?  Parents, family members, residents who cherish competition, sportsmanship, grit and the sheer joy of watching young people representing their school and community can watch from their living rooms.  That relic – Franklin.TV brings it all into our homes!  How about FHS theatre productions, orchestra, band and chorus programs…  Yes, it’s true.  It’s that relic that brings us the beauty of music, and the arts, and showcases the incredible talents of our young people.

And now as more and more people cut the cord, and the fees collected from Comcast and Verizon customers decrease, the funding from Comcast and Verizon that supports our local PEG channels is also decreasing.

As our Massachusetts state legislators consider supporting more funding, there are some who promise to vote NO, claiming cable tv is a relic of the past!  How sad.  As other state legislatures across the country enact laws to support local public media and programming, we hope that our legislature will think about what Jefferson said and why more than ever we need all that our Franklin Citizen Media Center brings to its residents.

Franklin TV, Franklin Public Radio, and Franklin Matters are working together to advance the greater good, bringing us together as a community so that our focus is not on what divides us, but what brings us together.
