Volleyball = Franklin, 1 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final
"The final point of Thursday night’s Kelley-Rex title showdown reflected the match as a whole. Both teams threw themselves all over the Attleboro High court, making sure that no point was easy and that every rally was extended. In the end, sophomore Olivia Leonardo (five kills) rose up and fired a cross-court shot to seal the victory.It was a grind and closer than the scores indicated, but Attleboro pulled out a 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 16-25, 25-18) over rival Franklin to clinch the program’s first outright league title. It was the culmination of an incredible run by this year’s senior class, which turned around a one-win team into not only a Hock power but one of the top contenders for the Div. 1 state title.“I was not willing to say that before tonight,” Attleboro coach Mary Katherine Runey joked about being Hock champ. “Five years ago, we won one game. It was great two years ago to win it in a tie (with Franklin and King Philip) but this feels extra special, especially with the seniors that I have. They deserve it. They’ve put their heart and soul into this program to make a lasting change.”
