• Selection will be based on the applicant’s academic achievement, community service and extracurricular activities. 
• Applications must be either completed online or postmarked by March 15, 2021 to be considered. Winners will be notified by May 17, 2021
• Applications must be complete and accompanied by the two most recent semester grades on an official high school transcript.
• The Rockland Trust Scholarship Committee will record and score all complete applications received by the deadline.  Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria:
• Academic Accomplishment: 20 points
• Community Service/Extracurricular Activity : 45 points

Franklin Resident Awarded the Carol A. Pizzi Scholarship

Declan Lynch, a recent graduate of Franklin High School, has been awarded the Carol A. Pizzi Scholarship by the Franklin Democratic Town Committee.

An Eagle Scout from Franklin, Declan and members of his troop recently completed a registry for Franklin’s Union Street Cemetery. He logged in more than 170 hours to make this project possible. Declan is also an active member of the Best Buddy program and has competed in many Special Olympic events.  He now proudly serves on the Best Buddy board. 

“To go from being coached in the pool to coaching younger children with disabilities is pretty cool. And to be able to represent kids with learning disabilities on the Best Buddies Board is quite an honor.”- Declan Lynch

Declan also volunteers his time every Friday at the Magnolia Heights Retirement Community where he plays games with the residents and enjoys bringing smiles to their faces.

This fall, Declan began his first year at Dean College as part of the Arch Program and will use the $1,000 scholarship to assist with tuition and school supplies. The Franklin Democratic Town Committee is thrilled to honor this extraordinary young man with this scholarship award and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.

• The Veterans’ Service Officer who is sponsoring the nomination is a current member of the SMVSOA

Tri-County Regional Student Awarded Scholarship from Sisters@Heart

Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School is proud to announce Connor Donovan, Class of 2020, has received a $1,000 scholarship from Sisters@Heart. The local nonprofit organization was founded to improve the lives of those affected by heart disease and stroke through funding research projects and providing financial assistance to impacted families in need.

Donovan is a graduate of Tri-County RVTHS computer information systems program. His demonstrated great strength, perseverance, and kindness while working to improves the lives of others set him apart from other applicants.

"We recognize the courage and strength involved in personally living with and overcoming heart and stroke related illnesses or having a family member impacted, and the importance of education as a means of awareness and prevention," a press release from Sisters@Heart read. "This scholarship reflects our commitment to educating our greater community and we are excited to support the recipients in their quest to better themselves and their opportunity for growth through education."

This scholarship was created in 2019 to help students who have been impacted by heart disease or stroke either personally or in their family. Donovan was selected as one of three recipients for the award.

SAFE Coalition announces PEERS Scholarship award: Emma Kucich

Each year, the SAFE Coalition is honored to provide one graduating senior with the PEERS Scholarship. This scholarship fund was established and donated by the Sacchetti Family in close collaboration with the SAFE Coalition and Franklin High School. 

We are Extremely excited to offer this annual $5,000 scholarship award to a graduating FHS Senior in recognition of their selfless and often underappreciated and unrecognized commitment to raising awareness and educating and influencing their PEERS about substance use and prevention.

This year, we are proud to announce Emma Kucich as the PEERS Scholarship award recipient. Emma has been participating in the coalition for three years, has been an active member in meetings and programming, has been a driving force for her peers at school to seek additional mental health support, is a strong advocate for peer recovery services, and has dedicated her last summer before college to interning with the Coalition. 

Emma is a bright light, a warm conversation, and someone who we know will share the spirit of recovery and support to all those who cross her path. We are so happy to award this scholarship to Emma Kucich. University of Massachusetts Amherst is so lucky to have you!

Tri-County Regional Student Awarded Scholarship to Dean College

Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School is proud to announce Taylor Tremblay, a senior in the Graphic Communications career program from Franklin, has been awarded a $35,000 tuition scholarship to Dean College for the 2020-2021 academic year. Updated: "Our apologies. The scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years/8 semesters of attendance at Dean College, providing maintaining at least a 2.7 grade point average."

This is the twenty-second year that Dean College is awarding the scholarship to a Tri-County student.

Consideration for the scholarship is based on a completed admissions application, a Tri-County senior in good standing, superior academic record, teacher recommendations, interviews with a Dean College Admissions representative and Tri-County School Counselors, and extra-curricular activities including employment.

Taylor was awarded the scholarship based upon her professionalism and composure along with many of her accolades. Taylor has been a member of the Green Club, Yearbook Club, softball team and Girl Scouts during her time at Tri-County. She is also a member of the Peter H. Rickard Chapter of the National Honor Society and was named to the honor roll her freshman, sophomore and junior year.

Taylor was well prepared for the interview process. Tri-County students are groomed to present themselves in a professional manner. They are taught to research an organization so they are ready to answer any questions posed to them prior to going to an interview.

“Taylor Trembley is a student who excelled both in the classroom and in various activities inside and outside the school. She had almost a perfect 4.0. GPA and was a member of Tri-County’s varsity softball team, active in the Girl Scouts of America from an early age on and did a fine job representing the school in the Skills USA competition in her concentration area of Graphic Communications. She also had stellar recommendations from her teachers and staff at Tri-County HS,” said Larry Thode, Sr. Assistant Director of Admissions, Dean College.

FYHA creates Coach Leo McGee Memorial Scholarship

"FYHA is pleased to announce the creation of the Coach Leo McGee Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a graduating Franklin High School senior who is part of either the boys or girls hockey program.

The recipient will embody what Coach Leo was to FYHA: an unsung hero with a selfless attitude; a committed leader on and off the ice; and someone willing to help anyone, at any time

It is our hope that this award will keep Coach Leo's legacy a constant source of inspiration within the youth hockey community.

We are working with Coach Sarno and Coach Burke to identify the candidates for consideration this year. He/she can be a rostered player or someone who is involved in another capacity (e.g. a team manager or student assistant).

The recipient will be announced at FHS’ Awards Night in May.

In the News: water plant close to coming online; Girls With Impact offers scholarships

There is a light at the end of the town’s summer-long water treatment plant repair tunnel that has kept the town on a full water ban since July.

Department of Public Works Director Brutus Cantoreggi said Wednesday via the department’s social media that the town has all the parts needed to get its main water treatment plant up and running.

The plant at 10 Public Works Way was shut down on July 7, along with the town’s two largest and oldest wells associated with it, as a result of a fire in one of the tanks.

“We finally have all the parts needed to fully restore the water treatment plant after the fire,” Cantoreggi reported. “Our crews are currently working to install the parts and we hope to have everything ready very soon.”

"A nonprofit organization hopes to equip 100 teen girls from low- to moderate-income families with the skills needed to launch a business, nonprofit or community project.

Girls with Impact, a group that aims to supply next-generation leaders with a strong network for both the corporate and public sectors, announced recently that it will give 100 girls scholarships to an online academy where they can learn how to build a business or nonprofit.

The deadline to apply is Monday. Applications can be submitted online at girlswithimpact.com. Scholarships are made possible by support of Eversource Energy and Boston Scientific, according to a press release.

The live, online program is designed with Harvard University experts. It guides girls through ideation to a plausible business plan. Along the way, the girls learn about concepts such as competition, targeting customers, finances and marketing."

Each year more than 132,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest. The national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $55,000, with each first-place state winner receiving a minimum of $500 at the national level.

“She always believed in an arts education”

"Dozens of his late wife’s paintings crowd the pale yellow walls of Robert Seide’s home. 

“We’d be driving somewhere, and she’d say, ‘Pull over!’” Seide recalled, of his wife’s eye for art-worthy scenery. ”‘I want to take a photo to paint later.’” 

The canvases, covered in flowers, landscapes and geometric patterns, are packed end to end with color. One, painted after the shattering 2017 diagnosis of late-stage pancreatic cancer, shows a dark, swirling scene beneath the cheerful flowers she painted over afterward. 

“She loved infusing art into every aspect of her life,” daughter Laura Seide Bishop said. “She always had an eye for color and design, even when she wasn’t painting.”

Tri-County Regional Student Awarded Full Scholarship to Dean College

Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School is proud to announce Julia Farrell, a senior in the Culinary Arts career program from Medfield, has been awarded a $34,000 tuition scholarship to Dean College for the 2019-2020 academic year. The scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years/8 semesters of attendance at Dean College, providing maintaining at least a 2.7 grade point average. This is the twenty-first year that Dean College is awarding the scholarship to a Tri-County student.

Julia was awarded the scholarship based upon her professionalism and poise along with many of her accolades. Julia has been a member of the cheerleading squad throughout her time at Tri-County. She is employed part-time as a hostess and waitress at Nosh & Grog located in Medfield. Julia plans to pursue a degree from Dean College in Early Childhood Education.

Julia was well prepared for the interview process. Tri-County students are groomed to present themselves in a professional manner. They are taught to research an organization so they are ready to answer any questions posed to them prior to going to an interview.

“Julia Farrell was chosen as the winner of the Tri-County Regional Scholarship because of her wonderful grade point average, her stellar recommendations, and outstanding employment endorsements,” said Larry Thode, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at Dean College. “She is a great representative of Tri-County and we’re delighted to have her become a member of the Dean College student body.”

Though the scholarship has typically been announced at graduation exercises in the past, this year it has been announced earlier in order to meet the College’s acceptance fall enrollment schedule.

In addition to Tri-County, the College also awards a scholarship to a student who is a Franklin resident at Franklin High School, and to a student who is a member of the Hockomock Area YMCA.

Dean College awards more than $20 million in scholarships and grants annually to assist students in funding their educations. An astonishing 90 percent of Dean students receive some form of merit-based aid with an average award amount of $19,000 per year. Dean College believes in making a private college education as affordable as possible, therefore most awards are renewable yearly provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress towards a degree.

Tri-County RVTHS, located at 147 Pond Street in Franklin, is a recipient of the High Schools That Work Gold Achievement Award and serves the communities of Franklin, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleboro, Plainville, Seekonk, Sherborn, Walpole, and Wrentham.

64 Tri-County Students Receive John and Abigail Adams Scholarship

Sixty-four seniors at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School qualified to receive the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for their performance on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test.

The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship provides a tuition waiver for up to eight semesters of undergraduate education at a Massachusetts state college or university.

The students were recognized on Monday, January 7, during a celebratory reception in the school’s library.

The scholarship provides up to eight semesters of free tuition to full-time undergraduate students who attend a Massachusetts state college or university. The scholarship covers tuition only; fees and room and board are not included. The scholarship must be used within six years of a student's high school graduation.

To be eligible, students in the Class of 2019 had to achieve an Advanced score on one of the three high school state assessment tests in ELA, Mathematics or STE, and score at the Proficient level or higher on the two remaining tests. Their combined scores must also place them among the top 25-percent of students in the graduating class within their district.

Franklin Youth Baseball awards four scholarships

Franklin Youth Baseball was honored to present this year’s scholarships to four outstanding young men. Three FYBO scholarships ($750 each) were given to Joseph Clark, Tyler Langevin, and Jason Collins. The Bill Capen Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded to Brendan Ryan.

Scholarship Fund Road Race 

Saturday June 23, 2018 at 8 AM

Help support our effort to give scholarships to high school students looking at the high cost of secondary education. All profits from this event will go to the Scholarship Funds for Medway Post 367 and Franklin Post 75.

• Registration: 7:00 – 7:45 AM
• Start Time: 8:00 AM
• Start / Finish: Remington Middle School, Franklin, MA
• Run – 5 mile and 5K loop on paved roads
• Entry Fee: $30, $20 for H.S. Students and members of the military
