MassBudget: Children's Budget - a new online resource

A Children's Budget for Massachusetts One of the most important things we do through our government is help children grow and thrive. We build schools to educate them; we ensure they have access to quality health care; we provide housing and food assistance to those who need it most. Today, MassBudget is unveiling a new web resources, a Children's Budget, which provides information and analysis of the many programs in the Massachusetts state budget which affect children. Using the Children's Budget you can: Learn about all the programs in a particular area, including Early Education & Care, K-12 Education, Health, Housing, Human Services, and Justice. Within those areas, you can look at individual programs, like the Newborn Hearing Screening Program. For each program, you will find a full description, information on funding history, proposals for future funding, and links to other online resources. The Children's budget includes over 150 different programs across the state budget--all of them related to the well-being of children. MassBudget's Children's Budget also allows you to: Browse material by age (for instance, all programs for 0-5 year olds) See clusters of related programs in our Common Threads Learn about tax breaks that affect children in Massachusetts If you want to understand what we do for children in Massachusetts through our government, visit the Children's Budget. Use it, share it with friends, and then share your thoughts and suggestions with us. Matt Tota talked with Erin lynch, the Food Pantry's director of development, to get a recap of the phone-a-thon this past Saturday.

This weekend’s fundraising effort had more than 35 chipper volunteers staffing 15 phones at Dean College’s calling center. Working in shifts, they tackled a list of 3,500 households, calling 90 percent of them, said Erin Lynch, the pantry’s development director. 

"The volunteers did a great job of reaching out to residents and increasing the awareness for the pantry," Lynch said Monday. 

Extra chairs had to be procured because more volunteers arrived for the six-hour telethon than expected. After their shifts ended, some were so locked in that they begged to continue manning the phones. 

"People get really excited when a call goes well," Lynch said.

United Regional Chamber of Commerce

The United Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to sponsor an all-day Tech Day Camp on Sat., March 23 at Tri-County RVT High School, 147 Pond St. in Franklin.
