Boys Lacrosse

Franklin, 12 @ Newton North, 11 - Final (OT)

Boys Tennis

Franklin, 4 @ King Philip, 1 - Final - Kyle Paniscio (Franklin) won 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 at first singles, Rahul Herer (Franklin) won 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) at second singles and Sean Barker (Franklin) won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. Tom Mancini and Brian Barker (Franklin) won 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 at first singles and the team of Nate Gee and Ross Carey (King Philip) won 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at second doubles.

Walking Sunday, I found my way to the inside of Spruce Pond to take this photo looking towards King St

Road crack seal

One of the methods of extending the life of a road was observed on my walk Sunday afternoon. The crack seal had been freshly laid on Everett St (off Union St near King St).

FYI - speaking of roads, RT 140 between Beaver and Union St was shut down Monday night as the state worked on the road. They were grinding up the surface to prepare to repave. I had been on RT 140 on Saturday and did not see any notification of such work coming. Nor had it started. It was needed. I do distinctly recall navigating within the lane to avoid potholes. As most of the stretch from the i495 to Beaver was already scrapped up, they must have worked quickly on Sunday.

FHS Spring Sports - results Monday, May 19th

Hockomock Sports reports on the spring results from Monday. In particular, the Franklin High School results are as follows:

Baseball

Mansfield, 0 @ Franklin, 1 - Final - Zane Byrne tossed a complete game shutout for the Panthers, allowing five hits and striking out five while walking just one. Mansfield's Jeff Perillo also pitched a gem, allowing just one run in the loss. Senior Drew Inglesi (2-3) had the lone RBI of the game, knocking in senior Cam Kelley for the lone run.

Softball

Franklin, 7 @ Mansfield, 0 - Final - Lilly Criscione struck out nine for the win in the circle for the Panthers and connected on a two-run home run at the plate. Maddie Connelly went 2-3 with two runs and Olivia DiGiacomo was 1-3 with an RBI double.

Attleboro, 2 @ Franklin, 20 - Final

Girls Lacrosse

Franklin, 20 @ Attleboro, 2 - Final - Maegen Schmauder scored five goals to eclipse the 100 career goal mark. 11 different Panthers scored goals and 15 different players had points. Alex Mitchell and Dani Lonati both played well in net.

General Information about State Rep. Roy: State Representative 

Jeffrey N. Roy was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 10th Norfolk District. It is his great honor and privilege to represent the residents of Franklin and Medway on Beacon Hill. 

He has worked as an attorney in Massachusetts since 1986, and has operated a law firm, Ravech & Roy, P.C., with his long-time business partner since 1993. Their law firm is dedicated to vindicating the rights and expectations of consumers injured at home, work, or play. He is also a member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and the Massachusetts Bar Association. 

In 2011, he was elected to the Town Council in Franklin, Massachusetts. In January 2012, he was selected to chair the town’s Master Plan Committee. Prior to that, he served on the School Committee, and served as its Chairman for 9 of his 10 years of service with that board. He also co-chaired Franklin’s Anti-Bullying Task Force. 

He has been married to his wife Maureen for 24 years and is the proud father of three children, all educated in the Franklin public school system. His oldest graduated from Bates College in May 2012, and his middle daughter is in her second year at Boston College. His youngest is in his junior year at Franklin High. 

He is also a bicycle rider in the annual Pan-Mass Challenge event, which raises money for the Jimmy Fund and he is a staunch advocate of development of the SNETT in Franklin and Bellingham.

Getting ready at the starting line in 2012

Yes, there are two races starting at the same time on the same day here in Franklin. The Franklin 5K will start at 10:00 AM on Washington St and the Parmenter 5K will start in front of the Parmenter School on Wachusett St.

Hmm, I had missed this.

The Daily News reported this week that the police log posted on the town website Sunday omitted an arrest the chief wanted to keep secret. Maxine Kinhart, a longtime assistant to the town administrator, had been charged with drunken- and drugged-driving. Asked several days later about the omission, Police Chief Stephen Semerjian admitted he'd kept the arrest out of the public log "to give this woman a day or two to try to get things in order." 

Semerjian conceded this isn't the first time he has kept names and arrests out of the public log, telling Daily News reporter Matt Tota he makes such decisions "on a case-by-case basis." 

That sure makes it sound like in Franklin, it's not what you did that matters, but who you know. If that seems unduly cynical, it's the attitude public officials invite when they do favors for friends and sweep the evidence under the rug.
