Reminder: St. Vincent de Paul Society - walk/run - Sep 25

Each year, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Church walks to bring awareness to the Franklin Community of the struggles some residents experience that impact their daily lives. For thirty years, SVdP has been helping people in need in regardless of race, religious beliefs or ethnic background. The SVdP members work closely with many charitable and government organizations in Franklin.

The SVdP members are all volunteers. Members assist people in a number of ways to help them retain their dignity and to help them to become self-sustaining. Some ways in which the SVdP society assists those in need include:

• Guide them to other resources, both state and charitable
• Provide clothing and furniture through our SVDP Thrift Stores
• Supply non-perishable food and paper products from our pantry to supplement other food resources
• Assist financially during an unexpected crisis helping to pay rent, medical, car repairs etc.

Last year we helped Franklin Families 345 times for $59,319.00

This year walk participants will follow a route around the town common. Participants may walk between one and three miles. One time around the common is a third of a mile. Registration opens at 8 AM. The walk begins at 9 AM.

If you would like to support our mission of helping residents of Franklin in need, you may make a financial donation in one of two ways.

Kids' Cooking Classes - Grades 3-8

Cut, chop, stir, and mix your way to a delicious dish. Students develop their skills: cutting, chopping, stirring, mixing, and teamwork! Each child works in partnership with another student to create a delicious dish.

6 Wednesdays, starting September 29

$150/student

Grades 3-5 4:30 - 5:30 pm FULL

Grades 6-8 5:45 - 6:45 pm limited space

Shade Sail installed at Community Garden

Good Afternoon,

I'm happy to announce that our shade sail project has been completed and is now installed at the Community Garden. The area will be used for gardeners to enjoy lunch, read a book or just relax after tending to the garden.

We are lucky to have some incredible volunteers from the New England Chapel that worked for two days to install this structure. If you would like to send an email of appreciation to Dena Gauthier (dena@nechapel.org), and/or Robert Heriot (bheriot09@gmail.com), I'm sure they would appreciate it.

The shade structure will typically be put up around Memorial Day in May and taken down around Veterans Day in November.

"Hollywood celebrities brought the issue of postpartum depression out of the shadows, but that does little to help the moms in poverty who are trying to cope with an infant and feelings of overwhelming sadness at the same time.

Their struggle is a far lonelier one, made more difficult by federal Medicaid rules that limit the medical treatment covered by that insurance to 60 days past the birth of the child — despite a strong body of evidence that for many women the symptoms may not appear for months and can last for a year or more.

There are efforts in Washington to change the rule, and Massachusetts is among several states that have applied for a federal waiver that would allow its MassHealth program to offer coverage for a full 12 months past a birth. But there’s been no action on either so far."
