Marcov Sharp Gymnastics, Bellingham, Mass. won first place in the 2016 Massachusetts Level 5 State Championships on February 28, 2016, at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough, MA. Hosted by USA Gymnastics, the sport’s national governing body, girls from 40 gyms competed in the championship meet.
The winning Marcov Sharp team is comprised of seven girls from surrounding towns and is coached by Rodica, Nick and Paul Marcov of Milford. The girls competed in vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise, as well as an all-around individual and team competition. In addition to winning the team state championship, each girl placed strongly in the individual all-around competition and in individual events, including many top finishes.
Three team members earned all-around scores that placed them among the top 10 of 192 level 5 gymnasts in the state*, including Ashley Hammann (age 11, Franklin), who was ranked first, and Caroline DeSimone (age 10, Hopkinton) and Jiali Madden (age 11, Milford), who tied for 8th.
Individual age division winners, include: Aliyah Quijada (age 12, Franklin), 4th place; Ashley Hammann (age 11, Franklin), 1st place; Jiali Madden (age 11, Milford), 2nd place; Caroline DeSimone (age 10, Hopkinton), 2nd place; Anna Wilmarth (age 10, Bellingham), 3rd place; Emma Nelson (age 10, Franklin), 5th place; and Danica Rutkowski (age 10, Bellingham), 5th place
