Field Hockey = Oliver Ames, 1 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
– Franklin built a three-goal lead in the first half and never looked back to open the season with a 5-1 win over visiting Oliver Ames. Junior Ella Marzullo opened the scoring five minutes into the game, finishing off a pass from Addi Weiss to give the hosts an early advantage. Franklin then tallied twice in quick succession in the second as Penelope Brady and Ava Lucenta scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. Brady (from Marzullo) got her second just before the midway point of the third to make it 4-0, and Weiss buried a chance on a corner with both Brady and Lucenta setting it up to make it 5-0. OA senior Linda Cooper got the Tigers on the board with nine minutes left in the game. Devon Barry made three saves in the win for Franklin.

Ryan Lanigan || HockomockSports Editor provides the game recap:
For Oliver Ames, the first two sets of the new season certainly felt like a continuation of a year ago when the Tigers reached the state championship.

With the lineup filled with mostly returning players, Oliver Ames landed some big swings, kept their serves in play, and played some tremendous defense that prevented Franklin from creating any sort of momentum to race out to a 2-0 lead.

A third set letdown allowed the Panthers to stay alive, and after both teams seemed to find their footing again in the fourth, Franklin was on the verge of forcing a fifth and final set when an OA hitting error put the hosts ahead, 23-17.

But one point led to another, which led to another — a kill apiece from juniors Claire Kenny in the middle and Taylor Donohue on the outside, sandwiched around a hitting error from the Panthers — and the six-point deficit was cut in half. Junior setter Lyla McDonough took advantage of a nice pass from classmate Molly Milliken and set up Kenny on a quick set for another kill, and just like that, it was a two-point game.
